1. Roy's daughter from Roy's Locksmith Shop on Third Street makes all the keys for the Twin Six. The Oakes Locks give her grief for almost three hours - apparently they used die cast lock fingers for 1932 - cheap and frozen up - one comes out fine after hours and the other is hopeless and has to be drilled (Casting survived and just needs new fingers and tumbler). Keys are good.
2. Here is a little project that I need parts for - does anyone have the automatic choke linkages for a Stromberg EE-22 Carb for a 1933 and 1934 Packard Super or Standard 8 ? Also, did have a second to snap a picture of the building late in the day Friday.
3. Had a few unexpected projects on Friday. First one was that the 1947 (originally purchased by ganster Al Capone - his last new car ever purchased prior to death) would not run so worked with the guyes through the day. Here is a picture of Scott with it at perhaps midnight just prior to being able to get it to run. Therafter, we were discussing the 30 Town Car and determined the car was in dire need of a trunk for storage of misc items that would be required for its use in a Saturday wedding - so we scavanged up a trunk from the basement and gave it a good clean up. Surprise was that trunk was filled with a perfect set of luggage (temp set aside). Argh, we finished this project at like 1:30 a.m.
4. Made some progress on Friday. Several weeks ago a tailight base came from Marge Verdone and I have been prepping it to installation - which went very well. The original was badly broken and being die cast was best replaced with a new casting (in this case stainless). Also Hoosiers (the nickname given to people from Indiana) Steve and Roger Gardner stopped in the prior weekend and traded me (they needed a Bijur pump) the rare Trico Clarion Air Horn buggles to replace the destroyed originals - You see these installed in the same place on only two other cars - both of which were custon designed for personal use by Walter P. Chrysler (a roadster and a sedan that both survive today). Also, installed a new gas cap from Bill Hirsch to replace the original - they must have heard something fall off so they backed up over it see what it was.
5. Stopped in on Tuesday after a job fair at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (thousands of unemployed people showed up - a real mad house but made two really good contacts - helps being from a top 5 global business) and installed a pair of pedal pads from Bill Hirsch
6. Twin Six gets a radiator cap rebuild via parts courtesy of Max Merritt. The cap was loose as a goose and sat crooked. Inspection revealed the inside of the cap was cobbled up junk from the inside of an old gas cap. Now with new reproduction guts it actually will be able to function as a cap - nice reproduction part.
7. Twin Six gets reproduction front frame end covers via Bill Hirsch and a restored trunk rack emblem being Dale Adams.
8. This weeks visits were productive in many other ways also. Cincinnatian's Dan Shaw and his son Joshua Shaw (well known in Rat Rod, Hot Rod, pinstripping, sign painting, and historic race car restoration), were kind enough to stop in all day Friday and touch up the original paint and pinstripe on the Museum's 1935 Packard Dietrich Twelve Convertible Sedan. The big yellow car was looking very enticing to play connect the dots on so their help is greatly appreciate. The Twelve also runs super sweet thanks to Daytonian, Don Boeke, "The Egyptian."
9. Hello, I did not get very far this week due to the job search - so much for negotiating Software purchases for one of the World's largest banks. I did snap some engine photos for those asking and I did grab the battery box lid to start getting keys made (hopes are that same key fits Battery, tool, and spare tire locks, perhaps even a door handle if we hold our breath. JMM
10. Here are a few interior photos. A good cleaning and some careful moth repair is very much in order. Visit: The Citizens Motor Car Company America's Packard Museum 420 S. 11. Hello, Attached (hopefully) are pictures of my next sympathetic restoration project, a very original and almost virtually untouched 1932 Packard 906 Twin Six Seven Passenger Sedan. The car is perhaps the only closed 906 that exists. The project includes mechanics (hoses, fan belt, carb, fuel pump and etc), replacement of broken die cast, some minor paint touch up, repainted wheels, replated lock rings, restored hubcap emblems, and new 7:50 X 18 Bedford Double White Wall Tires (they came last week and are spectacular) from Lucas Tire. This week the project consisted of research and new Wiper Arms from Ficken. A new stainless driver's taillight bracket came today via Marge Verdone. We were also lucky several weeks ago to track down its original sidemount tread covers and are on the look out for the original side plates. The project for next week is having a locksmith make the missing keys (tool box, battery box, ignition, pass door, and tire locks). A few other people are helping with missing parts as well and we will update you as this project shapes up. Does anyone have a set of Trico air horns or at last trumpets ? You will see a broken up set on the front and will replace them as holes are drilled in front fenders. Does anyone have a V-12 rack and/or a set of luggage rack strips? I can make do with the non 12 rack if needed. How about a driver's side interior sunvisor ? Who has recast the passenger side hood handle ? This car is in the permanent collection of Citizen's Motor Car Company, America's Packard Museum, in Dayton, Ohio. The museum is in an original Packard dealership from 1917 and sits on a 1/4 downtown city block. The museum is starting an "Adopt A Car" program (I am first with this 32) and we are starting a more active volunteer base (time for some handy people to come out of their retirement - plenty of projects for every taste). If interested in helping, please e-mail me at johnmereness@aol.com Visit: The Citizens Motor Car Company America's Packard Museum 420 S. 12. West, I would normally agree, but it is an unrestored car and the grill shell and shutter plating are marginal at best; and when matched up to the original tu-tone brownish/mud paint colors it can use all the help it can get. The Stoneguard is NOS and a good pick-me-up for car. JMM P.S. That is one sweet picture you attached and all cars should be Packard Blue.
13. Hello, Would someone please post or e-mail me a picture of what 1932 PACKARD 905 TWIN SIX STONEGUARD BRACKETS look like ? This is an odd item as production was low and 905 uses different (from fender to side of radiator shell) headlight bar(s) than the 904 Super eight that crosses from fender to fender. Thanks, JMM John M. Mereness johnmereness@aol.com
14. Hello, I have adopted an upgrade project to a 1932 Packard Twin Six 7 Passenger Sedan that has been recently donated to Citizen's Motor Car Company, America's Packard Musuem in Dayton Ohio. The car is a super decent original that has been off the road since the mid 1960's. The list of needed parts is as follow: Right and left Stone Guard clamps for 905 Twin Six Taillight Stand for Drivers side Set of new or lightly used 7:50 X 18 tires 2 Packard Twin Six hubcaps emplems in super decent condition but need not be perfect shape 1 rear quarter window glass and one rear door window glass for a 7 passenger sedan- the more yellow the glass the better (I need to match yellow glass in the rest of the car). Could also use a decent sized piece of Packard brown (medium) broadcloth upholstery to replace a back panel on one jump seat. Pair of sidemount mirrors (for over top of covers) - chain type. One metal packard trunk in original condition - prefer one in original paint that is a color complimentary to the color brown. Thanks, JMM John M. Mereness, Esq. (513) 531-2913 johnmereness@aol.com
15. Hey West, Correct, liner almost makes it easier to change top as pads are not an issue of matching of the canvas. Top was a big issue when I was doing the Franklin as the car was a little brightly lit (Satan Red, Mulbury Maroon, and wheels & stripe of Puritan Cream w/white walls, so I went with a Porsche Carmel Brown with a mottled Maroon Stayfast edging and welt). Great seeing you the other week, shame day went by so fast. JMM
16. I agree black is sharp, personally I would put on dark brown or grey, but only a handful of cars in the World are restored to their original build sheets (and Cadillac build sheets are very detailed excepting dealer installed accessories). I would propably go as dark a tan as Stayfast or one of the German companies make. You will find a separation of the men from the boys in quality of the top and a truly 100 point car looks good with any color top, the quality just stands out over the look. Not an easy decision though, as 100 point 4 door convertible top on a CCCA car can easily be $8K to 10K plus, especially when chrome beading is used to cover nails. When Johan is speaking of a tan liner in the top he is not speaking of the color of the inside of the top convas - this car actually has a fabric headliner that integrates into the pads and is installed between the top and the bows - makes a complex top even the more difficult to upholster. 17. Do not be definative if you do not really know these cars. Lets turn to Page 4 of our "Fine Car Accessories especially designed for Cadillac and LaSalle Motor Cars" manual for 1930 and see page 4: "Deluxe Trunks" Beautifully built of three-ply basswood veneer with high polished rustless steel mouldings and fittings. Fabric or metal covered, contains two large suitcases, 30 by 16.1/2 by 8 inches, and a hatbox, 16 by 16 1/2 by 7 1/2 inches, all covered with fine quality buffalo grain material. Deluxe Fabric Trunk $85.00 each, Deluxe Metal Trunk with black cases $105.00, Deluxe Metal Trunk with pigskin cases $115.00, Metal trunks painted to match color of car - $15.00 extra. Picture appears to show it in a long grain black vinyl. I have seen one very authentically restored V-16 in matching Haartz cloth to convertible top. By the way, all open car tops are lined in wool broadcloth. When you stumble across an original they are beautifully finished inside. Does anyone have a reprint or photo copy of a 1931 Cadillac Accessory Manual ? JMM jmereness@yahoo.com

20. I would like to purchase a 35 Ford Spare Tire Cover Face Plate. Must have no serious rust, but condition of stainless ring is unimportant. Please send outside diameter and diameter of the hole. Also picture if possible JMM John M. Mereness (513) 478-1887 jmereness@aol.com
21. Hello, I have looked at quite a few 35 and 35 851/852 Auburn Phaetons recently, but have just not stumbled into the "right car for me." I would like a decent original car, decent driver, abandon restoration project, older restoration needing upgrading, or the like (and I want to get a project moving ASAP). Have been looking at both supercharged and non-supercharged cars. You may reach me at 513-531-2913 or jmereness@yahoo.com .
22. What is the current part numbers/interchange numbers for a 1934 Cadillac V-16 Condensor and Points? I am also interested in the replacment spark plug numbers. Car is a driver and not shown so do not need exact original parts. John M. Mereness Cincinnati, OH (513) 478-1887 johnmereness@aol.com

24. Hello, I am in need of three 16" wheels for a 1938 LaSalle. Must be in solid condition w/no to little rust. JMM John M. Mereness (513) 478-1887 johnmereness@aol.com
25. Hello, We are finishing up a 38 LaSalle Convertible Sedan and I have one broken window flipper for a rear door (covers opening w/windows down). Is there any alternative to replacment than a 400 to 600 dollar pair. That is just too much money to tie up in the car for something like this. They need not be 100 point, just functional w/decent plating. Thank you. JMM John M. Mereness (513) 478-1887 johnmereness@aol.com
