  1. The body is the standard Fanklin brown with black fenders. The wire wheels look good, and there are six, as I recall. Message me and Ill get you in touch with my friend, who lives a couple of blocks away from the car.
  2. No, it's still sitting there. The fellow who owns it is unrealistic about its value, and, in addition, is quite stubborn. But the last time I saw the car it seemed to be a worthy candidate for restoration. With some amount of work it might be drive able as is.
  3. The car has been listed in Hemmings for a couple of months.
  4. Take pictures and keep notes for the Air Cooled News.
  5. Used to be you could depend on the area code to figure out where the car is located. No so much anymore. The area code tells you where the seller bought his cell phone. It is probably easier if a seller includes the location of the car.
  6. If you have any other photos, or more details, send them to the ACN editors. This might be an interesting story.
  7. I have a pair of Franklin 11A headlamps for sale, listed on the Franklin buy/sell site. They are in good, complete shape but need some repair.
  8. Auction ended and the reserve was not met at nearly $19,000. Sound decision, Mr. Seller.
  9. So the two convertible coupes listed should be listed as cabriolets? In later years such cars, I think distinguished by roll-up Windows, were referenced as convertible coupes. I'm confused by the nomenclature, 3akes.
  10. In the 2015 directory there are two convertible coupes listed, one in CO and one in NY. There are five sport runabouts listed, otherwise known as the deCausse boattail roadsters.
  11. Nice catch. There are a lot of these fine, Continental-built, Saxon engines around. They were so durable that many of them went into service powering sawmills etc. when the little roadsters fell apart. Perhaps you could repost this notice in the Saxon section below? Thanks.
  12. Im having the same problem. I went to edit a post I had made in error (I submitted the same post twice) but there is no place in the edit mode where you can delete the post itself.
  13. Listed on Ebay for the next four fays. Not a boattail. Landau bars. Anyone familiar with the car?
  14. I've put in slightly better photos.
  15. And a terrific new year, to all Saxoneers. Hope to see you on tour!
  16. That's a lot of car for $350, which I have to assume is the price since it is the only figure mentioned. How much more with the wire wheels?

    Dave Merrill

I visited Dave last summer. He had had an awful year, with terrible health problems, the death of a child and other misfortunes. But he remained fairly optimistic, and we got to laughing. He was recovering from a stroke and was undergoing treatment for cancer, struggling for words at times, but resilient and charming. We had a good time. What a great guy.
  18. Looking for a base plate for the bumper Jack to a '56 bird. Any sources out there?
  19. These parabeam headlamps, with good lenses, are in fair, repairable condition. I have no idea what the value is, but, if you're interested, I'd like to get them into the hands of someone who needs them. I believe they are for Series 11. One lamp has a dent. The bases ( where they attach to the car) show some corrosion. One lamp will need repair to its closure mechanism. They are located in my garage in Darasota, Florida. Photos added:
  20. Try brass car touring some day, including one and two cylinder cars, and you'll see what all the excitement is about. Brass cars are showing strong increases in value not just because they are rare, but because they are fun. And it isn't just the early Pierces and Locos that are fetching astronomical prices. Overlands, Maxwells and, yes, even Saxons are doing well. There is nothing like driving down a country road with fellow HCCA'ers at 25 mph. Early Franklins are rare. Try to find one.
  21. It seems like a bargain to me. I just sold a nicely restored 11A sedan in the mid-20's. A nice car, though it needed some paint work. Do you think Franklin prices may be inching upwards?
