He owns a 1962 Messerschmitt Kabine Roller 200. Have you seen it? </div></div> I wonder where he lives. That is the second time I saw that car this year...definitely too small of a car for me, but cute. It is a two passenger car with the passenger sitting behind the driver. Yes, that is my car he's talking about. I do drive my Packard quite a bit which surprises most people. I'm a firm believer that the fun of these cars is to drive them. Unfortunately I like to have cars in tip top shape which is tough if you drive them a lot. And the Pilot Rays do get everyone's attention.

I know that the people who take the pre-teen cars have an awful lot of fun, and they usually travel in packs. I like to get up and out early anyway, because I like to stop along the way if I see something that looks interesting. So, you take the Cadillac, I'll take the Packard. </div></div> West, We might be able to work something out...unless you want to stretch out on the back seat of the Cadillac.

I'll be there either Thursday or Friday and maybe for the show on Sat. I'll be staying with a friend about 90 mintes away in West Chester.

It's a Touring, not a Phaeton. Entirely different bodies, entirely different top irons and bows. Phaeton sounds more expensive I suppose. </div></div> Absolutely more expensive if it were a phaeton. I'd have to guess that the only reason a seller would misidentify a car is so that the novice will go to the value guide and look at values for phaetons rather than tourings. There is a super-big difference in values, because there is much more desirability for a phaeton. The phaeton is a much more sexy-looking body. </div></div> I wonder what the reseve is? Per the NADA giudes which I find more realistic, the high retail is $238K for a Phaeton and for a Touring it is $316K. Obviously a mistake. I would think the reserve would be in the 175K area. I found it interesting that the seller states that the wood graining is correct in his description of the car when in fact it stood out like a sore thumb. However I would buy it at the current bid of 82K and live with "all" of these problems.

  11. I actually didn't find that color that bad, though I would reserve final judgement until I see it in person.

Though the 30 Lasalle at the show I recently competed against had a bunch of polish stainless steel bolts which I know isn't correct.

  14. Well since we are picking the car apart... Take these with a grain of salt since I know 32s better... The fuel lines should be nickle plated. Though for these cars, I'm told PI judging accepts chrome plating. Back window looks incorrect. Missing the screens for the horns though not sure which way was factory stock. Crankcase breather on backwards Seat pattern is wrong. Should have dual coils on top of engine head. Have coil mounted on side of engine block. Door panels need to have insert panels and not the just the pattern sewn on the leather. Water jacket bolts need to be painted. Also the clock time is incorrect
  15. What I noticed is wood graining that didn't appear to me to be correct.
  16. I'm wondering what people do whne they sell a car that has won trophies. I'm referring to major awards like Concours and Marque national meet and not the $5 local cruise in ones. I have soem nice ones from the T-Bird and was wondering if I should send them to the buyer or do most keep them with the owner of the car at the time of the award. I've already this year donated a 4 1/2 foot tall Best of Show that I was awarded for my Packard last year to my Thunderbird club so they could recycle it and use it for their show this August. I never could find space for anything that big. Also is there an organization that would make good use of the local cruise in trophies?

You can go broke on good deals Send me a PM list of the extra parts you have for the 32 and I'll look at it. Or you could just send me the entire 32

For whatever reason I tend not to notice things like that. My eye always goes more to finishing details vs. alignment details. However if I had been doing the bodywork, I think I would had immediately picked it up. The judges went back and forth between the two rear fenders quite a bit to make sure they were not unfairly docking the car points. The owner did say the car had accident damage before the restoration and this was the result of it. The body guy thinks he can fairly easy using heat to resahpe the fender. I was glad I was able to help the owner locate a reputable body man to fix it. I also noticed he had polished SS bolts throughout the engine compartment. The owner me that was acceptable in his Cadillac/Lasalle judging circles because it was too hard to find cadmium plated hardware. I thought that was very incorrect and zinc plated (without bolt head markings) would have been more acceptable. In my experience last winter, it actually was not hard to find cadmium plated HW or have it done. I just don't know what judges really look at and I expect to varies from show to show but if I was a judge I would had taken off for it.

I always have metioned it to people that he must be honest with a last name like that. He is very well respected here in the Northwest and always has a fine selection of cars. I do like the fact he owns everything he sells. Dealers that sell consigned cars always have less "skin in the game".

I forgot to mention I did get a chuckle out of the crowd. When on the stage to accept the award, the presentor asked me how I acquired the car. I said I bought it from a "crook". Everyone laughed and then he said no seriously how did you acquire it. I explained that I bought it from "Tom Crook". I couldn't resist that opening the presentor gave to me.

Turns out the 34 V12 did not compete as the owner could not find transportation to Portland and then back to Pebble Beach for a tour. However a very nice Lasalle showed up which was a fresh restoration with very little miles on it. The owner had recently moved here from California and the car had taken a first place in a National Cadillac Lasalle meet recently. I did win but I was told it was very close. For the three judges in our class, we had the head judge plus two judges who had been head judges previously so they were very experienced and thorough. The detected a fender radius that was skewed on the Lasalle. The owner had never had noticed but he lost point(s) for it. It was obvious once it was pointed out. I introduced him to a well recommended body man who was at the Concours as the owner wanted to get the problem fixed. It was funny as I went off to get recommendations from the Packard club members as I only knew of one guy. Came back to the car and the guy I was thinking of was standing about 20' from the Lasalle so I made the intros. The Lasalle's stop light failed to work which didn't help it and would had been an easy fix. I had checked all of my lights as those are points you should never lose. Unexpectedly this weekend I received a invite for the Kirkland Concours this Sept. It looks like a fun event looking at the quality of cars from the past awards.

I guess it was like a classic car thighmaster exercise. I think I need to get Speedster's alighnment bolt he made.
  25. I'm in the Portlsnd area though I doubt the car exist. If I went to look at it for you, I doubt you would get it if it was truely that price, because I would buy it after seeing it I also wonder why all of these scams are just under $19K. Does it make it a more serious of a crime if the scam is over $10K?
