  1. I missed the anodized aluminum bit. I thought it was stainless. But I still think it fits the back of a '65 88. Don't have one around to measure, tho. Paul
  2. I did some thinking about this on the way home last night, then forgot to look at the Service Guilds when I got home... The listing you have for posi axle shafts - are there air ride posi shafts, and non-air ride posi shafts? Paul
  3. What year book is that? My '63 book has a LH & RH listing for '57 & '58 exc. air suspension, and another listing for '58 with air suspension. No different listing for posi for '57 or '58. Ditto for '59 to '63, btw. '58 Anti Spin supplement manual only says that air suspension cars used shafts that were 1/2" longer and that they can't be used in conventional suspension cars, and vice versa. Also says that a '57 car can be converted to anti-spin by swapping out the carrier. Says nothing about changing axles. I'll have to check my Service Guilds. Maybe there's something about axle length in there. Paul
  4. I do not have the lengths, but '57 and '58 Olds axle shafts are the same, regardless of posi or open rear, except for '58s with New Matic suspension, which are 1/2" longer than conventional suspension shafts. LH & RH are different part numbers, but I don't know that the difference is in the length. Shafts came throught parts with studs already installed and we all know the left side is reverse thread. When I had the axle rebuilt in my '62, it came back with the shafts switched. We just switched them back. They are interchangable 'cept for the studs. But maybe '57 and '58 are different lengths left and right. Paul
  5. Are the DRLs on the parking lights on the Buick? I had the DRLs enabled on the Dodge, but they are on the high beams and have no effect on the blinkers. Paul
  6. Boy, am I skating on thin ice in regards to non-Olds content on this one... I made a similar modification to my '05 Magnum a few months ago. My side markers did not blink at all (I think). Now, they blink with the turn signals when the lights are on, and alternate with the turn signal when the lights are off. Modification was as simple as switching two wires in a connector. More information here: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=32475&highlight=blinker I would think your Buick would be similar. At least explains the theory behind it. Paul
  7. That number on the pillar is the VIN. They weren't very long in '53. Paul
  8. '59 Super 88 Fiesta production was 7,015. Dynamic 88 Fiesta production was 11,298. There were no 98 Fiestas. I've got a build sheet on my website for a '62 Fiesta wagon with an Ionia produced body. The wagon was built in Doraville, GA, so they must have shipped the bodies to various plants, which makes no sense to me. Paul
  9. Number on cylinder head falls within '56 parameters, but could also fall within '57 parameters if we knew what the final '57 number was. Apparently '56 and '57s both started with As. Block casting number is not '56, according to Olds FAQ. '56 block numbers are 568922, or , it looks like, 568928. I'd make an educated guess at a '57. Paul Paul
  10. Those small things won't knock you out of unrestored. Unrestored criteria is bigger stuff like paint and upholstery. There's a list in JWO. Paul
  11. GM catalog sez '77 and '78 Impala (NOT Caprice) coupe and sedan. Paul
  12. Ouch! I think my room at the Courtyard is only $105 or $109, and that, I'm almost sure, was not the "special" rate. But those reservations were made months ago... Paul
  13. I am assuming he searching online, like I was doing at one time. Some sellers don't even know to bother to tell you it's got a supercharger, so knowing the VIN code helps eliminate the ones that are not. Paul
  14. 1965 Oldsmobile 88? http://www.tocmp.com/brochures/Olds/1965/1965OldsmobileBrochure/olds%20b2.html Paul
  15. On the supercharged LSS, the 8th digit in the VIN will be a 1 (one). Non superchargers are a K. Paul
  16. I was told the Courtyard had rooms, just not at the special OCA rate. But that was a month ago, so the situation may have changed. For those interested, on the way home from Dallas last year I stayed at a very nice Microtel a little bit away from the show site, right off the interstate. Cracker Barrel within walking distance. Took me maybe 5 minutes to get to the show site. Paul
  17. Must be dealing with a Cutlass of some sort, since we've got SSII wheels... Four-Season Air Conditioning - C60 Power Side Windows - A31 Deluxe Pushbutton Radio - U63 Power Brakes with Front Disc - JL2 325hp Rocket 400 V-8 Engine - L31, but if you are dealing with a 442 this engine was standard. L31 was only optional on Vista Cruisers. Turbo Hydra-matic 400 transmission - M40 Strato Bucket Seats - A51, again on a 442 these were standard Super Stock II wheels - N66 Anti-Spin Rear Axle - G80 3.42 Heavy-Duty High Performance axle - G92, this option was not available with air conditioning Code for Aztec Gold is J and is found on the data plate. Interior trim code is also found on the data plate. Paul
  18. '57 Super 88 Holiday Coupe production was 31,155. Paul
  19. Aren't the triple stripes available from Coker? Paul
  20. Rather than me listing everything, how 'bout if you tell me what you need. Paul
  21. sunvisor - called a Cadet Visor, code J. Was shipped loose with the car, not installed, and required painting. Considered a dealer installed accessory. steering wheel clock - called the Oldsmobile Self-Winding Car Watch, code M2. Required de luxe steering wheel and horn ring, code H, which was standard on the 98s. This option only shows in my literature for '52, but I have seen where it was available in late '51. compass - code U. Same as the clock regarding late '51 availability. Was not available on 98s unless M2 was ordered. floor mats - not shown as an accessory until '53, and then only as dealer installed. Available in black, red, gray, blue and green. Had to be purchased in sets of 6 (of each color). The first mention I see of factory equipment mats is '58. fog lights - called Fog and Driving Lamps. Considered a dealer installed accessory, no code. Since you've made me dig out my '51 stuff, I've scanned the bill of sale for my great uncle Homer's '51 98 sedan. It was Sand Beige over Palm Green. Looks like he bought it as a leftover. He only had it until July 2, 1952 when he traded it for a Pearl Gray '52 Super 88 2door sedan. Relatives have told me that one of these cars was wrecked. I suspect it was the '51 due to the short ownership period. The '52 was kept until June of '53 and was traded for an Artic White '53 98 convertible - maybe to one-up great uncle Lee, who purchased an Agate Red '53 Super 88 convertible about a week prior. Homer passed away in October of '53 at the age of 25. His 23 year old widow, great aunt Helen, kept the '53 98 until the spring of '54 when she traded it for a Glade Green over Maize Yellow '54 Super 88 Holiday coupe. Great uncle Lee also bought a '54 S88 Holiday - 2-tone blue. They must have ordered these cars, and at the same time. These two cars had consecutive Fisher Body numbers and the Oldsmobile serial numbers were only 3 or 4 apart. Helen's 88 was kept until 1960 when it was traded for a new Falcon. Lee's 88 lasted until '56 when it and the '53 88 convertible became part of the trade deal on a new Bel Air 4-door hardtop AND a new pink and black '56 Sedan deVille. 30 years after the fact, I would end up working for the dealership where all those Oldsmobiles were sold. Paul
  22. I have all of that at home. I'll try and remember to check it tonight. But something tells me floor mats weren't available in '51. Paul

  25. I've got the "Standard Catalog of Oldsmobile" out, and it must be wrong... Sez '55 engines are numbered from V400001 to V983275 and that '56 engines are numbered A001001 through A385513 But it also sez that '57s were numbered A001001 and up, and I can't believe '56 and '57 would use the same numbering system. Paul
