I looked at one of these and was ready to buy the minute I saw it.  Then I tried to sit behind the wheel in the non-adjustable front seat.  Impossible at 6’2” and 250 pounds.  Love these cars, but I don’t fit.

Many of our members have the same problem .Till the mid-thirties  the seats are fixed  and are one unit with the body .I had a 1932 packard and could barely sit behind the wheel and use the pedals with my long legs .

Looks pretty nice for the money compared to some we see posted here...  First question I would ask the seller is how long they have owned the car?  Probably told the widow, for $500 I will haul that old car in the garage out if here.  So their net profit could be more than the asking price!

Even if he did get the car for free that is not of my concern , when the asking price is ok .

Nope, that the way Cad did it.

But the master cylinder change is interesting  Original 56 Cad used Tredle-vac mounted on the core support operated by a long rod that went to the firewall.

Very interesting as i had a 56 some years ago and that power brake setup was a PITA .

So, are Rolls-Royces and Bentleys of the 1950's better

than the problematic and expensive-to-repair Silver Shadows?

Did it take a lot of maintenance and cost to get your 1979 to 180,000 miles, Al?

Are they still very complex back in that decade?

If your models are good, in what years did those cars become problematic?

It's a shame that some beautiful cars don't have the

mechanical quality to match.  I'd be happy to hear

    otherwise.  Teach us some more!

When you ask me the Rolls-Bentleys till the end of the fifties are better than the sixties cars and then in 1965 they start the new model and thats to much for me .I am happy I have the 6-cilinder model and thats easy to work on .The V8 was not an improvement quality  wise

    D2,

This story cements the legacy of you, your dad and the car. You MUST keep the DeSoto. It’s extra nice too, always a conversation starter.

D2, you should only keep it when you like to do that for 100%, otherwise its not a good idea .Its like being married to wrong girl , you will divorce one day sooner or later .

That cormorant hood ornament is my favorite and one of the best…..only to be eclipsed by the P/A Archer!

Such  hood ornament is forbidden in Belgium and other Euro countries .To sharp .If you hit a pedestrian and he is stabbed you will end up in jail .
