And now down to $13,500 or offer

Wow ! Thats a strong price ! Even the parts alone would cost more .To have an idea how complete it is you have to go and see it .I looked at the dashboard and its painted in body color and not wood grain. I even saw another  car restored by THE RESTORER from 40 BUICKS  not having a wood grain dashboard .I have a 40 super Phaeton without the wood grain and i feel good now .At 13.5 if I was not in Belgium I would jump on a airplane and go to see it .

WE HAD A 1940 61C FROM 1975 THRU 1994 AND THE DASH WAS WOOD GRAINED. WE WENT TO THE BCA 1ST NATS MEET IN FLINT IN 1971 AND JIM CAMPBELL SHOWED A 1940 51 C [SEE 70 YEARS OF BUICK] ORIGINAL CAR WITH WOOD GRAINED DASH. COLORED DASH DID NOT ARRIVE IN ANY SERIES UNTIL 1941.OK?? NO BS. YES THE MOLDING SURROUND WAS ALWAYS CHROMED, FOR SURE AS WELL. THIS IS THE REAL WHOLE TRUTH BASED UPON 53 YEARS OF WORKING ON AND OWNING 23 DIFFERENT 1940 BUICKS SINCE HIGH SCHOOL. AMEN. BTW-THANKS PHIL FOR THE KUDDOS!! SKIP

[PS WE'LL TAKE THAT 1940- 46C WHEN YOU ARE READY, LIKE WE DISCUSSED IN STRONGSVILLE...!! LOL]

Thanks for your answer .There is at this moment a 1940 Phaeton for sale and it was restored as they say from Doug Seebold and they say its a multiple show winner .It has no wood grain on the dashboard .My car is running and driving I cannot take out the dashboard like that , I'll think I leave it as is .

Mine looked kinda like that when I got it. In some ways worse. Prices were a LOT less then.

There’s a lot of work here, but after driving around in mine all afternoon, I have to say it’s worth it. Great riding cars and nothing beats a top down cruise on a nice late summer day.

Here’s a valet driving mine today. I think I made his day.

Long time ago , i had a 61 in the same color, sold it and found it back years later in a sad  condition and it was only good for parts then .

I have always heard that the wood grained painted dashes on ‘40 Buick convertibles was subject to sunlight fading.  I believe I have seen, but cant remember when or where, Buick put out a service bulletin about this, telling dealers it was okay to paint the dash the same color as the exterior.  This makes either way correct.  I have see many convertibles and phaetons painted both ways.  If I find the documentation, II will update this post.

The window molding on convertibles was always chrome, and wood grained on closed models.

Thanks for your answer! So its OK in body color and also OK with wood grain .

I see you have a Phaeton also but its not a super but another series

That's a dream of me to experience Hershey once! And it would be fantastic to see some of the people of the forum there. Hope one time I can make it.

I was there 2-3 times , you cannot buy anything as you have to compete with to many buyers at Hershey .I like it much better to go to somebodys house and discuss there about the car rather than surrounded with to many people when you see a good car .

Hershey is good to meet people of course .

Next october I have plans to go back to California to see some friends and the pomona swap meet and san diego , and then go to the Branson auction with a old time from  Joplin Ms .Didn't buy tickets yet but I will do my best

  7. Last weekend i tried to get the wipers to work .

First question : the knob above the dashboard : You have to pull it out or turn it to make the wipers work .Mine is blocked ...

Second question :when the knob works what does it do ? Cut or open vacuum to the  wiper motor or does it works inside the motor .

I think it will be a terrible job to take out that knob .This all happens because the car sat way to long .

Wher do i find wiper blades ?

OMG! Looks like a steal! Even a Roadmaster! Good paint and chrome. Interior and top are shot. But for 9 grand a Roadmaster convertible??? Wow!

We are never so lucky to find someting like that In Europe .Of course we didn't see it neither .I know of 3 Roadmasters  (47-48) sedans for sale here in Belgium at 40km  from where i am that need restauration  .I would directly buy a second one to complete and put a good running engine in the cvt .

  9. I played already with the idea to buy a 1950 parts car .I have a 1950 Cad cvt in good driving condition and here in Belgium you can't find anything .On the other hand i would like better a complete car and not a car that is taken apart .At this moment I have a problem with the hydraulics , the pump does not work good .I am also not sure this car has hydraulically operated windows and seats .Nothing to see .Not even the motor etc..

    I hate flippers

Many flippers fall on their nose .

On the other hand you don't have to buy from a flipper , its not a piece of bread or food but a luxury thing you buy .
