  1. Stream boards are a tad more "streamlined" (get it?!) than rubber vulcanized runningboards. They are thinner and tuck in closer to the body, and are all metal construction painted to match the car color. They dont stick out to the edge of the fenders or past them as do runningboards. Two or three metal rib strips on top running the lenth of the board and one mouling on the outer edge appro 1 3/4" tall. Your teacher, nickSS
  2. Welcome to the Board! First, air up the tires and roller her out and wash it!! Buy a service manual or such for it too. The car looks to be in good shape, but pictures can't tell much about the internals of the engine. Your father seemed to take good care of it so the steps you listed are good.(also, i know i should flush out cooling system, check the brake lines & fuel line (if theyre not completely rusted away lol) put wd-40 or something in the cylinders and let it soak before cranking it etc, i just need to know good procedures for how to do all this and other things i may have not thought about.) I will add get some fresh spark plugs, drain the oil and refill with fresh 30wt, new or good 6v battery, and such. The carb may need rebuilt and don't be surprised if it floods when you try to start it. Check for antifreeze in the cooling system, and if it is at a good level, flushing it out shouldnt be required at this time. Spark plug wires and points/condesor would be another thing to take care of sooner than later. Those are jsut a few things, dont get anxious and take your time to do it right, as it only costs more to do something the 2nd time. I would recommend you attend the BCA national meet in Batavia this summer, even if you jsut bring yourself! You can learn more than you ever wanted to know and its easier to talk with somebody than looking at text! Have fun and good luck!!
  3. Yes, you can jack it up under the front coil spring. Just make sure the jack is situated under thatt pocket so it wont move. You'll then have to put the jackstand under the frame, of course. Good luck!
  4. Doug in Ohio has a bunch of 55 parts, includign hoods and fenders , i dont know about a decklid though. give him a ring 440-835-1193
  5. Give Doug a call in ohio 440-835-1193
  6. Oh oh oh!! I jsut recently found out about a one owner 66 Skylark GS that some kids uncle has neglected half under a shed for the past 16 years. I mean, really, whats up with this, shall I call it, disease or possibly handicap?
  7. I have a slight rant about some people I have run across in recent years. How many cars have you seen that jsut sit outside somebodys home or trailer or whatever just rotting away? You ask the owner about it and if they'd like to sell it but you alwyas get a story that comes back to "amah gunna restor it wun day". There are some of the folks who do have the intention of restoring it or were in the process but had larger things like family and such come up, so I can deal with that and offer my help if they need it. You figure if the car hasnt been touched in at least 10 years, they sure as a monkeys uncle arent going to do a thing with it in the next 10 years. SOOOOO many cars i have seen fall to this fate and I wonder where they have gone or where they will go besides turning back into Iron Oxide. I'll give you a few examples. 1968 Camaro Z28 in PA(yes a real one) supposedly the guy won the lottery and it disappeared to get restored, albeit needed much more metal work from sitting near a pine tree for 8 years. 1969 Chevelle SS 396 still had the orignal wheels on it, dk green, with vynil top, sat under a pine tree for 11 years before one day we went by, the house was cleaned and painted some trees trimmed and no more chevelle. 1965 Mustang fastback with a stick shift, was supposed to be the guys daugters graduation present, but shes only 42 yrs old now. car has it 1/4's cut off, doors off no fenders, lots of rust etc...still sitting there. 1968 Mustang Fastback - me and my friend checked this car out when were like 11, as we got older the car got deeper in the ground. I met a kid named sean when i was about 20 and he said how his dad used to have a fastback but they cut it up and scrapped the car a year before "becasue it was too far gone". No crap, so why didnt he sell it to us before? 1992 Pontiac trans am GTA - the guy is the orig owner and the car only has 70some K on it Loaded with the L98 and everything. I saw it driving around back in 97 but it has say in the same spot for the past 4 years and before that sat on the dirt/grass/mud for 3 with a cover on it. The car has lots of underbody rust now(unibody=bad)the interior is all moldy and mildew smelly, exhaust has rotted off and jsut hanging there, etc, etc. When i asked in 98 he said he wanted 12K. Maybe I should just get the rollback and haul the cars I still see and leave $200 in the door. anyone else have similar sightings?
  8. dont buy or use one of those little "trolley" or "scissor" jacks, get a real 2.5 or 3ton floor jack available at sears, Harbor freight, etc. Jackstands, you'll need at least the 3 ton units, thick stamped steel with a cast iron adjustable upright, But if you're making the investment for future uses buy a set of four 6 ton units from harbor freight. they work well. first, get the car on a level surface. In the front you can usually jack it up in the center of the cradle between the conrtol arms. you can put the jackstands on the front frame horns or under the lower spring perch. For the rear, put a 2x4 block of wood on the jack saddle and place it directly under the centersection of the rearend. works wonders and wont harm the paint. You can place the rear jackstands towards the outer ends of the axle tube or you can put them on the frame just ahead of the axle. You can keep a jack under the original lifting points for added saftey, especially if you're working under the car. Good luck!
  9. I'll confirm the a/c for you tomorrow and get you a price on the engine. I dont think there is a carb on it and would most likely need rebuilt. Let me know if this is what you're loking for.
  10. You're welcome! He has helped me in the past and proved to be a pretty good person. Good luck with your car!
  11. I have a good amount of parts from this car, I think its a 63 but I'll check. rusty body, no front seats or console, carb. Car is located in Cleveland, Ohio. post your needs!
  12. Doug Seybold in Ohio has a whole bunch of 55 Parts. He can be reached at 440 835-1193
  13. Was that car at the Plano national meet? I'll get a 65 someday as it has to be one of the best looking Riviera models made.
  14. get a good 6v battery and use that. the new 3 wire motor will prob have black wire for ground and the two other wires for high and low speeds. the orig motor only has two wires because the switch had different, resistance of sorts, that controlled the speed. same with the defroster motor. give it a shot or send them over
  15. Well, I dont care that Mythbusters used that particular car. Frankly, the only things useable wouldve been the rearend for a drag car. It even had a 318 in it, didnt it? Thats kind of like saving a 305 chevy. What I really HATE to see is movies and such using nice , rustfree, desireable cars and wrecking them, rolling them, crashing them into boats. I only have so much time to restore cars and the less metal work i have to do the better!
  16. its a pretty cool show- although i will say some areas need some help. Give the guys a break, the 85's were hot air's and low 14's is pretty good for one of them- you cant compare them directly with 86-7 cars at all.
  17. Flowmasters = Barf... we need to get you a pair of 3" large body Dynomax's!! The car would probably be a tad quicker, too. I agree on the rest of the 70 GS though!
  18. you need skirts? I have a pair on the shelf, email me if you're interested nsey396 at yahoo.com
  19. Doug in Ohio might have a couple. 440 835-1193
  20. Edd - I never got that far. I saw them when I was picking up some mechanical parts and kept them in memory. They were mint though, sans the paint. Good luck with your car.
  21. I know for a fact that Mr. Seybold has a set of mint fenders for a '40 Special, I almost bought them but I sold my car due to space constraints. His number is 440-835-1193
  22. I'd say there is no "last muscle car" because they're still building high-performance, muscular looking vehicles. The United States last muscle car was the Z28 and Trans am up until the new "GTO" and Mustang came out. Before, the Mustang couldn't really hold a candle to the mighty LS1. Now Ford has the hot new mustang and someone has already tweaked one a bit and supposedly run low 12's in close to stock form. There aren't really many other "muscle cars" that I can being produced that i can think of , mainly because i don't think a compact car is a muscle car...and thats what is getting quicker lately. Small cars with big hp - like the Neon SRT-4, Cobalt SS, a suburu WRX STi, Audi S4 and the likes. They aren't my kind of cars but the technology is pretty amazing.
