As stripped down, lightened and modified your '14 T was it just barely beat the time that my completely stock '15 Roadster turned at the hill climb. I remember your remark about me "chirping" the T tires when I left the start line. -

Not sure that this would make any power improvement without other internal modifications.
Its been my experience that every conversion from updraft to downdraft makes a noticeable difference in performance. I had a 1914 Ford speedster that both manifolds were inverted. On that motor I installed a small Tillison carburetor from a Crosley, pressure feed and i It made a huge difference. I bought a 1929 Franklin sedan that had the intake turned over and on that car the previous owner had installed a model 97 Stromberg. My friend and fellow club member tells of a 28 Chev4 cyl that had a downdraft installed when he was a kid and gain he attests to its much improved performance. I would try it out !

At the entrance to a small village near me there was a sign nicely lettered that said " Close your cutouts". The old timers say the village fathers put it up in the roaring twenty's. Mysteriously it disappeared several years ago? --Bob
Bob, I thought I saw one like you describe in Howard Sharps garage!

Sure, it's Cattail Foundry near Lancaster, PA. Being Amish they have no phone or computer access but they do of course do mail and UPS. I visit regularly and don't actually have their address. We provide a service where folks send us patterns or original parts. We modify the parts to allow for shrinkage and shepherd the parts thru the foundry for a modest mark up on our cost. Being Amish they are not very familiar with car parts so sometimes they don't understand what's critical on a part and what isn't. We can also do the machine work that is often needed to make a sand casting useable. If you post a pic I can likely tell you if they can cast the part from an original. They do cast iron, silicon bronze and aluminum. All their work is sand cast so don't expect the detail you would get from die casting or lost wax. They have done literally hundreds and hundreds of castings for us over the years.
Cattail Foundry
167 Cattail rd
Gordenville rd
Look up the zip code on Google.
Ph # is 717 768 7323 and they have a neat message machine recording with a steam whistle.
They do great work at a good price.

I am selling a 1947 Ford woody project. It was a original car and one family owned from new to 1988. The car is complete EXCEPT for the 3rd rear seat. Since its been in the hands of early V8 Ford man. He started the restoration but got stalled out. The entire running gear has been done .(Chassis, motor , transmission ,and rear rebuilt) All painted correctly. The wood body is still intact ,doors swinging, tailgate in place. The sheet metal on this car is EXCELLANT with original paint from factory still in place. Wood repairs are needed in the roof under the fabric area and the rear pillars. The doors look ok but the flat panels will need replacement. The dashboard has been restored. The stainless is complete and nice. This was a 60K mile car. INTERESTING FACT- This car was a gift from the Ford Motor Co to the original family. ( I have the rest of the story) There is a Columbia rear axle available for more $. Price $15,000.00 Call Mike West 585 738 1541 I have pictures.

Hi Mike , I am anxious to see the Franklin speed car and the progress you have made this winter! Ill bet it looks like a million bucks by now. 1930 franklin Speedster in Build Stage. 3 Side Draft Webers, Lowered Suspension and Chopped Narrowed Cowl. Packard Wheels and Hubcaps. 1910 Stanley Steamer Lights, New exhaust Manifold. Brake, Clutch and gas pedals. New Exhaust with Powder Coat. Started motor today (Sept 19) for the 1st time, It runs (POORLY) and needs some additional tuning.Found out Valve Timing was wrong and firing order was wrong. Fixed those problems. Strange for a motor that was supposed to be running. Now I find the Starter Drive is junk. Someone tried to weld it and it is no good. Looking for a starter drive so I can back to sorting this Motor out.I have the starter drive problem resolved but now the starter is dragging copper on the armature. It was working ok before I had to resolder the stud on the field coils and replace the starter drive. trying to figure out if the starter is binding or something. It appears to be turning the motor over without a problem but is arcing badly on all brushes. Received a second starter from a Franklin Friend. Starter problem resolved and now the Distributor has a problem. replaced Points,Cond, rotor and Dist Cap. Now I find out the Dist Housing is worn. No bushings so we bored the dist and made oil lite bushing. Motor seems to run OK.Now it is time to try and sort out those 3 Webers.New Grille with Air Cooled Script and Faux Hand Fuel Pump. Still trying to figure out how to run on Rubber Exhaust Extension. Maybe it will be Summer when I can go outside???New Headlights with Dillion Lens and Crank hole in the Grille. Pics of new Windshield and Wing Windowbelow/down. Can only post 20 pics on a Post.

Rob , When I restored the 29 137 DC I painted the bumper brackets , bumper backer bars , the same as the chassis color. As well the hood sills should be painted the same as the fender color. You are correct in thinking that they should be "colored" to match what they are in direct contact with. If they were painted different, they would clash. I believe all the chassis was originally black and then if a "colored" chassis was requested ,it was painted over the black. Of coarse this is my observation on what I found working on an original car .I painted all the springs ,driveline, and axles "colored" ,but the transmission , oil pan and engine splash shields Black.
Hi all,My dad and I are in the process of painting a series 137 touring car. It had nice original paint on it that we are going to try to copy as closely as possible. The car will be a two tone brown very similar to the Fregonese/Nunnick car in New Jersey.
The underside of the car was entirely painted the dark brown color, which we have duplicated. My question regards the other exterior parts of the car such as the back bracket of the bumpers, the bumper arms, and trunk rack. Would these items have been black or custom painted to match the chassis? I suspect that some parts that would have come off a shelf at final assembly would have been black, but I have no reliable information about this. At the same time I think, "If they went to the trouble to paint the chassis brown, wouldn't they have painted the exterior parts brown as well?" Has anybody else researched this information?
Also, what color should we paint the sills that run along the frame between the front fenders and the engine? I have seen some painted fender color and others painted hood color. I think that they should probably be the lighter hood color, but would appreciate thoughts on this as well.
Thanks!
