  1. Amen! I watch a 36 Ford go from really good driving shape to being eaten by the Texas dirt over the past 25 years. The guy simply would not sell the car. Was doing to fix it up. Now it is well beyond even salvage for parts. The K would have been a great car, and if you had the money and wanted to just shell it out, still could be. But I looked at K limo for $17K a few months ago that actually ran and looked pretty good for an original car.
  2. Nothing more than a little oil, wax and a good sweeping out needed. A quick weekend job. Looks like something Cecil might tackle.
  3. Thanks. One of the things folks seem to like most at our local car shows is hearing my 37 LZ radio work. It thrills them almost as much as hearing the V12 start up.
  4. Rolf, What was your question on the radio?
  5. Loved looking at the tools and admire your attention to detail. Folks like you educate us all on the way these cars came to their original owners. That kind of passion is needed when preserving history.
  6. It looks incredible! Thanks for the pictures. They could not have chosen a finer automobile as a promotional piece.
  7. Connie Glad you're joining us. I'm sure that someone has the stats and facts on the 36. Pretty rare car. You can run any parts you have by us, most of us are always looking for something. The guys on this board are great with specific questions, so post your really tough ones and let them go to work.
  8. I think it is a nice looking new car, but the problem is that it looks like a dozen others. Nothing sets it apart. It is not going to be the root of anything great. Look at the car the Zephyr spawned in 1940. If they were going to use the name, they should have taken a chance with the styling that would make it appear different than anything on the road. In 36 the Zephyr was radically different that any else, even the Airflows. In 2006 the Zephyr will be just another nice looking cookie cutter car. That is not a bad thing, but it is not a part of the legacy of the nameplate.
  9. Cecil, the gloveboxes are the same and the radio box mounts under the front seat on the passenger side. The radio controls can go on either side in the ash tray spots, I have mine on the driver's side.
  10. I can check mine tomorrow. By your question, do you mean are both sides the same size?
  11. Wish mine looked that good. I am watching that one as well.
  12. Cecil, I actually found the beauty rings and clips, but the small clips that go onto the retraining rings were in poor condition, so adapted with Roy's wire method. It seems the lights are on very well, but only time and rough roads will tell. How is the coupe coming? By the way, finalized a deal on a 34 Auburn to with the LZ today. It is also a sedan.
  13. For drivers like mine, I wish someone did reproduce stuff. Yet as small as our numbers are, doubt if that is going to happen. I just want to find a third tail light for a back up now.
  14. Cecil, It may take more than for mine that a short twist. I used piano wire as the retaining clip and made sure they were stuck on really good (Roy Thorson suggested that to me). By the way, looks like I have a garage mate for the 37. I am going to buy a 34 Auburn sedan. Very solid older car, will be a great driver as is. I should have it here by January 10th or so.
  15. Right on the more as parts that whole view. Sad too. I realize parts are necessary, took me forever to find 37 tail light globes, but the thought of restorable sedans being carved up for parts when there are so few left is a bit disturbing. Still, it happens to LZs, Packards, Auburns and everything else. History being junked for the all mighty dollar.
  16. The Packard must be really good looking car. That marque has real class throughout the 1930s. The look was so distinctive. And a limo would be a real head turner. Send me some pics.
  17. I am using old used stock, so I am sure they would be of use to me.
  18. Unaware that Bob had lost his wife. Very sad news.
  19. Diz, The plastic board sounds great, where can I find it?
  20. I am in the midst of redoing the seats, door panels, etc. My fiberboard or cardboard (whatever it is called) is in terrible condition and the local furniture guy I am using for the project does not know where to get this material. Can anyone tell me where to go to get enough of the stuff for the doors and area around the doors?
  21. Les was the man who rebuilt the Columbia I bought. It had been sitting for a decade, so he would have rebuilt it some time ago, but did a great job. When I found it, the unit had been stored since the early 90s. All we had to do was replace the seals.
  22. Sorry about the bad luck and not getting to meet you, but best of luck on the trip this time. As it turns out, I am going to be out of town this week until late Thursday, so would not get a chance to meet you anyway.
  23. I would have to say aftermarket. I have seen them on Fords of that era. In fact, I have seen several 37 Fords with the "Eyebrows."
