  1. So far the bondo has held very well. I have been yanking the throttle and choke pulls and they seem solid. If they are solid by the end of the week I am going to pull the old knobs on ash tray, lights, etc.
  2. I tried a few different types of glue with no success, then talked to an old body guy at a car show. He suggested bondo. I mixed a tiny bit up, shoved into the knob holes with a small headed nail and low and behold, it seems to have worked. An hour later the throttle and choke pull out and push in like the old worn ones did. I am going to use them for a week and if they continue to hold, then I will affix the remainder of the knobs this way.
  3. I am putting my newly made (have had them a year) knobs on the dash. Some of the holes in the ones that were made for me are larger than the shafts. Any suggestions on a glue that will harden to filll the area and bond to the plastic and metal? My choke and throttle are going to be what looks like my biggest problems and as they are going to have to be used the most I have to get them only solidly. I have not taken the light knob off yet to see what I am going to be dealing with there.
  4. Found it on the source page. I just realized that is what Rolf meant in his post.
  5. Anybody got a number of them. I can't put my finger on it.
  6. I need a contact point and parts numbers for the rubber pads that the bumper brackets go through to fit up against the body of a 37 Zephyr. I ordered two sets (front and back) several years ago, have just painted my car, and the sets I got from a Rhode Island company (I have forgotten the name) did not fit. Anyone have a place where I can purchase the proper ones? Also, who makes the rubber moldings for the 4-door sedan's rear quarter window? I will need these when I rechrome these window frames. Finally, I need a can of green engine paint to touch up a couple of places that have flaked off. Ace
  7. There is a company that makes a battery that will start your car with 12 volts, kind of like jumping two six volt batteries, then switch back to 6 volts when the car starts.
  8. The car is hardly show worthy and, with that color, combined with the red highlights, it would take a pretty unique person to drive it. Nevertheless, few 36s out there and might be a good starting point for someone wanting to restore a LZ.
  9. I hate it when any rare, classic restorable car is chopped and rodded. As a guy who owns a 36 Cord, 34 Auburn and 37 Zephyr, I cannot believe anyone would chop any of these rare cars. Yet in the last month have seen a rodded Cord 810 and 34 and 36 Auburn. This to go with what the scrape car could have been does not set well with me.
  10. Wasn't the car that Batman drove in the 40s serial "The Batman" a 41 Custom?
  11. Don't know much about the grill, but believe that I saw a 42 Zephyr in a used car lot in Arkadelphia, Arkansas yesterday. Looked to be in very good original condition too.
  12. I have driven mine that much over the past two years with no problem. The only costs I have had is a couple of fuel filters and oil changes.
  13. I don't know about ethanol, but I run regular in mine and it purrs like a kitten. No problems at all.
  14. The man who owns Wright Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Cleburne, Texas is retiring. He has collected LZs for years and has a couple of cars plus a lot of parts for sale. I didn't get to look at any of them today, simply didn't have time, but I know he has a 42 sedan for sale, among others. So if any of your are looking for something, this might be a good place to start. Don't have a number or email address, but google the dealership by name or location and you should get it.
  15. Cecil knows that I drive my old stuff a lot. My 34 Auburn and 37 Lincoln get out and about at least two times a week. Before I put my 36 Cord into the body shop, drove it a couple of times a week as well (and Cords are also supposed to be prone to vapor lock). My son drives our 65 Mustang every day. It has been very hot here in Texas this spring and none of my cars has ever vapor locked this year or in the past. I actually took the Zephyr out two summers ago during the hottest part of the day when the real high that day was 111, it ran well, did not overheat and started right up three or four times. Now it was really warm in in the passenger compartment, so the driver almost vapor locked. All my cars are set up just like they were set up at the factory, but with the exceptions of inline fuel filters. My Cord is the only one with an electric fuel pump. The Cord left the assembly line with one as it had a factory supercharge cam. Don't know if this information helps, but thought I would toss it out.
  16. Tom, my email address is ace@acecollins.com, email me and tell me about your Cord. I am in the process of restoring a 36 Cord Westchester. It is an 810, but has factory installed pipes (strange story, will be glad to explain). Mechanically mine runs great and is in the body shop now. Hopefully I am keeping my 37 LZ and 34 Auburn.
  17. Cecil, The Cord is in the body shop being painted, and you know how body shops are, so it will not be home for a while. Been driving the LZ about twice a week over the past month. Enjoying it a great deal. The seats in the Zephyr are much more comfortable than the ones in the Cord or the Auburn. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to getting the Cord back.
  18. I am out of the loop, tell me the rest of the story on this one.
  19. I thought I had lost it because I was sure that the Johnny Bond record I heard many years ago had it being a V12. Either way the song still works for me, but glad it was a LZ.
  20. Ah, the Hot Rod Lincoln which so many have sung about. This one sound be fun and a real classic retro rod.
  21. I can't tell you how it was suppose to have worked, but I can tell you the reason it was not offered in the following years was that "it didn't work." There have been articles written on the problems with the unit and I think our club magazine has covered in detail the problems the transmission had.
  22. If you can get me his name and number that would be great.
  23. Check the parts for sale on the Zephyr club website. Last time I looked there were a couple of V12s for sale. Good luck and thanks for returning it to stock.
