  1. Per, the 48 is really nice. It would be a shame to alter the suspension to make it "slammed" in my opinion. But it's your car.
  2. The obvious difference in the door panels will be the embossed scrollwork above the door handle. 70's don't have this. The 68 is different. What color door panel do you need? I have a pair which are solid however the glue behind the white vinyl has bled through causing a stain on the flat areas. I believe the vinyl can be painted although I have never done this personally.
  3. If you are a BCA member, I would suggest reviewing the list of Chapters on the inside of the paper cover for a group near to you. I'm sure that someone within those Chapters has a recommendation for a good shop to handle this task. As you know the Buick engines are basically the same as all other motors however there are nuances. For example, you do not want to replace the valve guides and seats. Some general shops would do this automatically and they could ruin a good set of heads that way.
  4. Stunning! Good Grief Leif! I could not live in the same house as that car. It is beyond beautiful, and I would say it was gorgous if I knew how to spell the word. Is that a two tone blue with the light blue steering wheel?
  5. Holy Roadmaster! That car looks so nice. Great colors. How's the interior Leif?
  6. Thanks for making my day Fred. My 56 Super is a nice car, but it needs a lot of work. Don't misunderstand me. I love my car. I think it will be with me for the rest of my days. We've owned it since 1974, and this summer it's run better than it has in many years. We also have kept it licensed and registered for driving for most of these past 34 years, taking it to Flint Michigan for several Buick Club National Meets. But the car deserves a real restoration and that is just not fiscally possible for me right now. Still, when I drive it my smile is fatter than the whitewalls on your beautiful Century. Here's one thing you may want to know. Be careful of your rear bumper trim. These are the "J" bars you may hear us talking about from time to time. Your's look to be in perfect condition and they are not available, at a realistic price, anywhere that I know of. The correct exhaust tips are around although they are also very expensive. There are two types of exhaust tips that people sell for the 56, one is a chromed tip that attaches directly to the exhaust pipe. They are Buick authorized accessories but not the correct tip. The correct tip is attached to the bumper by a hangar and then the exhaust pipe lays inside the tip. The correct ones have a stainless steel cover over the metal that forms the tip. Good luck
  7. I think it's still the best looking minivan ever made. I bet with some minor re tooling it could still sell well as a people mover too.
  8. If this is for the 65 I'd price a replacement before committing to a rebuild.
  9. Welcome Fred and Mimie. Nice to see another 56 owner here. Mimie sure is sweet, and looks like a great car. Best of luck with her.
  10. 4 Hours? Hmmmm same amount of time it took me to compound and polish 85% of that 78 Estate Wagon.
  11. Now that car looks GREAT as a Limo! That roof line screams style! It looks like the rear doors do not have inside door handles? Would love to see more of this car.
  12. Nice Car! Looks like you hit the reverse jackpot! Reverse because a car like that deserves to be done right and that seems to always cost much more than expected.
  13. When the page to make a post ( or reply to a post ) is open, just below the box where you type your entry ( you may have to scroll down the page a bit) is the box for "POST OPTIONS". In that area click on the File Manager link ( the blue words) and then another box opens. In this auxilliary box click on the Browse button and you should be able to search your PC for the picture. Then you select the picture and when you do so that browsing box disappears and you come back to the File Manager box where you must hit the "ADD PHOTO" button. You can only add 5 photos on any one post and then you must click on the DONE ADDING FILES button to proceed.
  14. Yes, I know about the Bennett dealership. I used to live in Ontario NY and was a part of the Finger Lakes Chapter for several years along with Guy and Anita while out there. I will tell Israel about Guy as a recommendation. It is a long drive to Guy's place for him however. I still hope there is someone closer that can be recommended.
  15. Please, if you know of a competent transmission mechanic in the Binghamton/Vestal area of New York, would you please drop me a line either here or at jld1972@verizon.net This request is to assist a 79 yr old gentleman who recently moved to Apalachin NY, and who owns a 55 Special that has developed a leak. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  16. I hear you and concur. The top was up on the GS the entire day. And I had no guilt using the heater before and after the show.
  17. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Geoff Fender</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I do have a check engine light on and Friday I plan on cleaning the throttle body and seeing if someone can pull that code for me. I'll let you guys know. By the way, I forgot to mention that I seem to be getting pretty poor fuel economy. 15-17 MPG mixed driving. Is this normal for this car and motor? </div></div> I'd say absolutely not! That car should get close to 30 MPG on the highway and if you pump up the tires you can get a little bit more. I second the vacuum line break theory. On top of the motor by the throttle body are two "U" shaped hoses that are probably dry rotted. Unfortunately these are no longer available so you'd have to get a piece of hose and make a bigger loop to correct the problem. Also check the lines over by the charcoal cannister.
  18. Hey, you made the axles, can you make a space heater?
  19. Yes, that's the one they drove out this summer.
  20. Absolutely John. I do hope to make it again next year.
  21. More More More I did not get all the Buicks. But here are a few more cars I though worthy of documenting
