Ed has plenty of air, and it's even hot! Ed, just wrap your lips around the stems and BLOW HARD!
I would normally respond with a very snarky remark, but the last few days I have been pushing the envelope......so to save me a phone call and distress of some nice people who don’t need the hassle of dealing with me directly, I shall refrain from calling my good friend and fellow Pierce Arrow owner any objectionable adjectives. Hard to believe I have this type of self control while drinking at the bar. That said, I don’t think it’s possible anyone could possibly have a higher opinion of my friend George than I do, and I think he’s a no good dirty rotten xxxxxxx. 😏
I wish my good friend in crime a happy Memorial Day and thank him for his service in the war of independence...... it’s comforting to know some of the founding fathers illegitimate children are still with us. May all of our nations hero’s be remembered on this very Special day of remembrance. Those who gave the full measure of devotion, and all who served. Thank you......a few of us still respect you, the flag, and the country. God Bless America and ALL who served her.

If it’s a good car......wait for him. Good cars are difficult to find. Don’t pull the trigger without a title.

Isn't ethanol gas more prone to vapor lock?
By about ten times......

Well the problem is obvious, just put some air in the tire. The current 14.7 pounds per square inch is not adequate to drive the car...........14.7 being atmospheric pressure at sea level. You need to add air. 😝

Buick’s were GREAT cars in 1910. They had it figured out. Above average performance for the size of the package..........and twenty five years later, a mid 30’s Buick with electronic ignition is going to be better than what the Gm engineers designed? Don’t think so.......GM was the largest company in the world, and a leader in technology that practically single handed brought America into the space age. Points were fine in 1914, 1924, 1934, 1944, 1954, and 1964. It was a PERFECTED technology......just years, hack work, poor Chinese parts, and lack of knowledge prevents them from being 100 percent reliable. If people spent as much time making their car factory correct as they do screwing it up, they would have ten times the miles on their car. The one thing I will acknowledge as a possible reasonable upgrade to early cars is an electric boost fuel pump......gas is chemically different today, and in many but not all applications a boost pump is critical to your cars enjoyment.

As I am now in the process of replacing my broken top cover with an aluminum casting ( thanks to Ed ), my attention turns to proper sealing of the fittings. Any teflon required, or just a snug fit ?
Never, ever use Teflon tape or silicon sealer or RTV on a pre war car. You can use the Teflon pipe dope very sparingly.

AJ is correct on that statement as to "Well Sorted" verses not - owning a Cord is a commitment, though a very worthy commitment.
Some of the exotic Pre war cars certainly make you wish you were committed!

I have had a Petronix on my 1938 40-41 for the past 5 years and it runs good though not all that much better than the old points and capacitor. However I did run into problems with low battery voltage. The Petronix voltage range low end spec is 5.2V. I found that without a full battery charge and with the drop in voltage across the wiring from the battery to the coil that my car would not start. I measured the voltage at the coil between 4.5 and 5V during cranking. So I changed the battery cables to new 000 gauge and ran new 10AWG wiring from the battery starter terminal to the coil and that did make a difference. However I think it is still marginal since when I tried to start the engine with the temperature around 35 deg. it would not start and the voltage was below 5V during cranking even with my Optima battery constantly on maintenance charge and fully charged.
5.2V minimum operating voltage is simply not low enough for reliable starting; once it starts the generator provides plenty of voltage for good operation. So I will be removing my Petronix and going back to good old points ignition. I believe that the Petronix is a good design with the one major flaw of too high minimum operating voltage.

This is the best and most honest opinion I have seen on Pertronix.........and I agree with it 100 percent. Properly serviced stock pre war cars start quickly and easily when the current condition of the car is “like new”.- 1

They are great cars. What series? As each different series or “size” offer different challenges. They are above average driving cars for their year.

Did you just give us a hint as to what the mystery car is???
Mail your contribution check towards the restoration to my home address...........that's how the others found out............😇
Sorry Dave, you know how I am! I'm having too much fun to spill the beans. I will say, it's not what you think, and you can never guess it, as it's so obscure it makes Duesenberg's look common.

I have three issues:
1. I hate whitewalls in general, but especially on a car that had about a 1% chance of wearing them originally.
2. Wheel color should be darker than body color as a rule.
3. This wheel color with the whitewalls scream at you and all you see are wheels and no car.
You have WAY more than three issues..............but then again, so do I..............🤪

It actually should say, I don’t care about it......but I don’t want to be rude. Why don’t you look up Monroe gas charged struts and see what they say about leaking struts and shocks. Better yet, we can go over it at an ASE convention.....I assume you have 20 certifications also? And have been an expert witness in trial courts? (Directly related to struts? I have.) Have you done 10,000 plus state safety inspections? Leaking shocks or struts are a failure for state inspections. Have you raced for national race teams? Won a world championship in you class? Have you worked in the race devision of Michelin tires? I could go on......but again I am wasting my breath. After you have fifteen thousand hours in the shop, I’ll consider your opinion..........
Then again, you signature says 1990 and best in class .....call me when you get to Pebble or Amelia....Really a 1990 car ......PLEASE, give me a brake. And yes, I have owned and serviced Rivera’s from that era......with the CRT that has all the issues. Been there, done that.
Sorry Peter and Steve..........some people just need to be corrected. Delete it as you see fit. It’s getting time for me to take a brake from the forum........and people who have absolutely no clue to automobile service and restoration.
In 1983 I had a 1965 Grand Sport with the dual quads, and just about every factory accessory including the compass.......... didn’t consider it a collector car when it was twenty five years old.......it was an every day driver. Fun car. The smell of the leather still stays with me all these years later. Also was fond of the 1972’s for some reason. Never got around to owning one. So, yes, I like Buick’s , and particularly the Riviera’s, I’m very fond of them for a modern car.

Ok.......a leaking strut is still good.......I rest my case. People have NO clue. What the hell do I know, a lifetime of car service and restoration.......with thousands of cars serviced at my shop. Internet experts with no clue.....or brains. Yup, I said it. And I’m tired of being polite. Leaking shocks and struts are junk.....back when they were three years old. I’m wasting my time.......
