  1. That would be Sandstone Mountain , 7% grade for 7 miles. Coming down is worse than going up.
  2. My forecast is only showing 25% chance, that's a 75% chance it wont rain
  3. And, if you get out behind the Giant Center early Saturday morning you can watch the cars parade in. 7am until 10 am
  4. Steve, one more question.....We will be arriving mid afternoon Wednesday and would like to get a car corral space if any are available. My trailers are parked at the museum, where do i need to go to get the car corral space. Thanks,
  5. There is phone message on the Hershey Region office phone that states Car Coral spaces available starting Wednesday morning but it doesn't say how much the spaces cost. Anyone know? Thanks

  7. Big thanks to the High Plains Region for putting on a great meet! Some really nice vehicles, great meals and hospitality. Thank you
  8. We came in Wednesday afternoon, been sightseeing today. What a beautiful area, going to be a great show!
  9. Philip, It's not that I mind documenting the tach, I think you were on the team that questioned it at New Bern. I was somewhat embarrassed that I didn't have the documentation with me. I just wondered how many points I could lose for not being able to document the thing. Apparently it's 3 points
  10. My tach is the original one on the car. You make a valid statement though. The 61 tach was different in that it had no red line. In 62 Chevrolet used the same style tach but added the redline. The after market Sun tach had a different face.
  11. Question, a Sun tach attached to the steering column was an option on a 1961 Chevrolet Impala, Bel Air or Biscayne. Most every time I show my car, it's a Sr GN car going for who knows how many pres;evasions, I get asked for documentation on the tach. I bet I have documented that tach a dozen times but at a recent National Meet I was asked for it again and I didn't have it with me. Shame on me. Question is, how many points would be deducted if they thought the tach wasn't legit and I could not document it.

    Nice GT

Never seen a front bumper guard like that
  13. The information provided by John is correct with the exception of the reference made to the 6 cylinder cowl tag. All of the cowl tags indecated 8 cylinders but that doesn't apply to this car. The practice of stamping the vin in the engine block began with the 409 CI cars in 1962. The 300 horse cars were next to recieve the vin in late 62 and by 63 most all models had the vin stamp . The car being discussed is about as close to matching numbers as you can get for a 61Chevrolet. None of the 61 Chevrolets including the 409 cars had a vin stamped motor
  14. Robert, Not to worry about the mud, they got tractors to pull you through it. Or, you could get off some of that money you got salted away and get you a nice parking spot up at the museum.
  15. I'm hesitate to bring this topic back up but I did not have a problem with what the owner was doing and I wonder if the car is complete and will it possibly be at Hershey. PM me if you like
  16. The Super Sport option, RPO 240 was available in 1961 on any Impala model except the station wagen.
  17. John, Probably isn't a purpose, it started over in the Buy & Sell section where Matt listed the 63 409 car. I suggested we move it to this area because that thread was dead.
  18. John, I remember your 60 well, very nice car, sorry to hear it got damaged but now many it will be better than ever.
  19. Rusty has some great cars but the thing that he has that I really like is his truck. I would love to have one like it
  20. I have always been fascinated with the 61 Impala SS. Bought my first 61 Impala in 1962 just before I graduated from high school. That summer I was at Emporia Drag Strip in Emporia , Va. and saw my first 61 SS. I went straight to the local Chevrolet dealer and bought a set of SS emblems for my car. For almost 40 years I searched for a "real 61 SS" and finally found one in a shed just 15 miles from my house. I bought that car, did a frame off restoration and just recently sold it. In 2004 I ran across the car in the attached photos at the Charlotte Auto Fair. It was just a body, a basket case but it is a real factory built SS so it had to be saved. The original motor and transmission were long gone. I located a correct date coded 61 409 motor in a museum in Tn., bought it and installed it in the car. I have been extremely fortunate with this car at AACA National events. The car has reached Sr. Grand National status and in 2009 was awarded the Annual Grand National Award for post war cars. The car hasn't been out of the garage since the 2014 409 Reunion in Kansas but it is going to New Bern this weekend and also is going to Hershey this fall.
  21. Dave, The pictures of the 61 Pontiac were taken at the 2014 409 reunion in Great Bend, Kansas, were you there? I was there with my 61 SS.
