  1. here here, well said. I'm 37 and belong to the local chapter in San Diego. There seems to be alot of focus on activities that draw away from opportunities to share information. Our club is currently trying to put together a yearly event picnic style where there would be Buicks and the opportunity for talking and discussions about the Buicks! Drive your Buick to the event, setup and just have a nice day with all the fellow Buick folks! No judging, no prizes, not many spectators, just people and their Buicks! btw, the local GS and GN chapters around SoCal still hold tech events like a Carb setup meeting or a transmission shop event. Very knowledgable folks in this area step up and host these events for the clubs, it's very nice. My recommendation, don't get down on the clubs for not doing certain events, get involved more in your clubs and help set them up! Our generation is next in line to run the clubs so we should be getting our feet wet now so all this information can be shared not only now, but in the future as well!
  2. Hey Dan, Last I heard it was still active but it sometimes takes a while for them to get back to you as it is just a "hobby" thing. You can always send them another note...
  3. When you get into California, pick up a newspaper or auto trade mag. There are multiple events every weekend in the LA/San Diego area starting in April and running until April!
  4. Hey! Sorry to hear about your father. Welcome to the Buick forum and the Buick world! You have a nice Buick on your hands for sure! I think the first thing you should do is to join the National BCA and the local BCA. You'll start getting information and be able to see who has this era of car and get some help from the local club. Nothing beats being around Buick people. There is a wealth of information hiding in Buick people! Collect information like a mad man at this point before you do anything (aside from giving your Buick a nice cleaning!). Older cars have alot of different technologies than todays cars. Get the manuals for this model and read them. This is the step alot of folks miss who join the hobby and they always end up right back at it after a few steps! It will save you alot of time in the long run. You also need to know that the Buick you have will not run like a new car. It will have a neat personality you'll come to know and love. You'll have to drive it like Miss Daisy is in the back seat for awhile until you get to know the personality. Remember it will never be a sports car or a muscle car as we know them today but is a car with class and style beyond reproach! Here is a page with some pictures of a '38 that was at a recent event in San Diego. Buicks at the Big-3 This 38 is also a family car and two brothers own in jointly. It has been in their family it's whole life and was a show stopper at the meet! It seemed like everyone that came by stopped to look at it and comment on it. It won't be long before you'll be the one smiling beside a '38 at a showfield! Did you know the National BCA meet will be held in New York this year? Another thing you should think about as there will probably be some auto's of that same vintage there in great condition! Again, Welcome to the Buick world!

  6. This picture was in the last weekends San Diego paper. Thought I would post it. The rest of the story did not mention Buicks but talked about the old dealerships in San Diego.

  9. Hey! This rang a bell and I realized I met a guy at the San Diego Swap meet that buys/restores/sells Trippe lights! and...I have his business card! :-) So here it is: ================================================== Restored Trippe Lights Pilot Rays & Super Rays Seniors and Juniors New Chrome, Levels, Bulb, Armored Wire, Refinished Emblems and Wrinkle Finished Brackets. Will Buy or Trade Jim - (818) 785-7246 - Van Nuys, CA. ================================================== I hope this helps!
  10. Being that MrRiviera is on the board I would bet he has been to a few ;-) As far as cost justification, anyone with a video camera could setup and film a board meeting, unattended (i.e. on a tripod not holding the camera through the whole meeting). Then someone could take that tape and make it into some online files that could be streamed or downloaded...as well as offer copies to those folks who want them. Heck even one of the clubs could be responsible for dealing with the distribution and digitization so the national office would not have to carry this type of additional burden. If it really is just a few tapes a month then it would be no big deal. After going to one of the board meetings and seeing how it works I think alot more folks should see the meetings. If nothing else, when it comes time to vote for the board members you will be able to vote for someone you believe will carry your torch forward. You learn alot more about people from seeing them in action in a meeting like this than you do from a pre-written bio. Typical meeting minutes don't do justice to some of the conversation around the topics, the minutes just record the end result and general ideas. I think this would be a good idea to give a try starting in Batavia. Put notice of the details in the Bugle for a few months and see how it goes!
  11. hey bigal you should post a location and some pictures here too. That would help value the car...and you may even find a buyer!
  12. I don't think I mind much but it just looks so strange :-)
  13. Is it just me or did the ads on the right side suddenly get bigger and shifted into the browser so the list window is smaller??
  14. Ha! I can show you at rest too!! See how sneaky we are! hehehe yes you decide what picture you want to use and I can send the higher resolution version to whomever you would like so they can make it suitable for print. btw, I posted all the pictures (at a lower res) I had from the two day event at our club website: San Diego BCA Chapter Web Site The Pictures are under the events section on the upper left of the first page. I did get a couple of overhead shots of everyone on break. Being the jokester of the group I though you could take those two, blow them up, and play name that board member from the tops of their heads! hehehe It was great to meet and support the board, Mike Book, and the other Buick Ethusiasts in San Diego. We missed Roberta and the better half of the BCA Office (Nancy!).
  15. I check this thread every day as well! It is interesting to see where everyone is from!
  16. and I don't think they read this at that meeting...I remember them mentioning you on the agenda and saying "she is not here" and maybe "we have the report from her" and that was about it! Unless it went down while I was out of the room...

  18. Hi Keith, I just sent you and email on this subject to your outside email account.
  19. I'm not sure how Roberta feels about it but I think she should be on the board! She has her finger firmly on the pulse of this community and the internet world.
  20. oops, sorry Roberta! I just saw that link on the BCA page today!
  21. hey Keith, did the San Diego club respond to this mailing yet? Let me know and we can "git er dun".
  22. What is sad Keith is that when you go to a board meeting the cross section represented is far less than what is on the internet sites! I think we both agree it's time for the web to be included in alot more stuff because it is a real way to communicate and it's growth is outrageous. I agree that at this point soliciting things from the internet may not be a good idea but the information to keep us informed should be here. They already pay for this so it's no additional cost to keep a nice size chunk of the membership informed, especially since most of us here are the "active" members in the BCA! As I stated, we share the info here and if a club or individual has issues with it they find a board member to chat with. Same thing we do with gov. representatives. I know the board and what they did was just a mystical thing to me until this meeting in San Diego as I have never seen anything published from them besides the snippets in some of the writings that come out here and there. This would be a great avenue for distribution since I would think that all of the clubs have some representation here and they could carry information back to the rest of their group at no cost to the BCA as opposed to mailings, etc. :-) I know that is what we are about to start doing. We know folks cannot all be online so we're going to harvest information from here and get it to our members that are not online or Internet savvy. I also think they need to revisit the option of paying dues online :-) but that is another whole thread!
  23. Hi everyone, My apologies as I was going to post the itinerary but I seem to have misplaced it! I think someone else in the club may have a copy locally so I'll get one and post it. As far as the 2007 meet, both the Seattle and Orange County Chapters gave very nice presentations. I'm a little biased since Orange county is only an hour from me, but they were both very good and had alot of usefull information. I believe the Board will vote on the location at the national meet this summer in Batavia. Let me see what other information I can get from the board to post here (like the itinerary!). I think they should be posting all of that stuff here before they meet so we all know what's going on and could email any questions or viewpoints in to our respective Board members to carry the torch for us. I know I had a short discussion with Pat Brooks about the Internet and on-line items and it seems they are still hedged towards the view that "alot of members are not on-line". I pointed out that this is the future and it grows every day so they need to address it now, not after the fact...we'll see how it all goes, but we can always bug Roberta to post things for us for the on-line community to share!
  24. Hi Everyone! We had a booth and car display setup for the annual Qualcomm Big-3 swap meet in San Diego today and a BCA gent stopped by from out of town looking for some parts. He had little computer skills and I told him I would post information for him to try and find the parts for his Buick restore. His name is Bob Ferris. He is looking for the following items for a 1948 Buick Super: - Rear fender skirts - rear tail light lenses If you have any information on these parts for Bob, please contact him either via email or his phone as follows: raferris1@aol.com (714) 897-1903 Bob was a very friendly guy and seemed very enthused about getting these last missing parts for his Super so he could get it back on the road! Please help if you can. I have no more information than this but Bob said just drop him a line or give him a ring on the telephone! Thanks!
