1. I'm trying to replace the plastic dash bezel in my 1970 buick electra. I've got all the edge bolts out including the ones just under the dash pad on top. There still seems to be something hanging on to it...has anyone done this before and may have some suggestions on getting this done? I work on it for an hour or so and walk away so I don't get into the "pull" mode. I was hoping to get this done for a show tomorrow but that does not look very promising at this point.
Any help is appreciated!
  2. If there was such an option, I'm looking for a parade boot that would work for a 1970 Electra Convertable (of course!). Or a pattern or plans to fabricate one. Any assistance is appreciated.
john@buddybox.com

    Floor Pan

I patched my floor pans this summer on my Electra and while it did include cutting, grinding, and welding, we did find a product you may want to use on the floor pans while your doing that job. POR-15 makes a floor pan kit that includes fiberglass patch material, cleaners, epoxy resin for the fiberglass, and the actual POR-15 product. Leaves a plastic like finish which is really nice and even if water gets on it won't rust the pans from the inside. The kit ran me about 100.00 from NJ. Good stuff. Before people start flaming me, my Electra is in a state of daily driver rebuild. So much to do so little time. I didn't feel like it was necessary to replace the whole pan with one of the few good ones left when It's going to be a driver. Of course some day I do plan on a frame-off so I can get it all cleaned up, but right now time and location constraints don't allow for that kind of effort. I do have some pictures of the stuff if you would like to see what it looks like. :-) I was very happy with the results and it's under the carpet so nobody actually sees it, but it's a good piece of mind after you see the holes I had in the pans.
John@buddybox.com
  4. I've looked closer at my rear curtain on my convert. (1970 Electra) top and it is dry rotting and tearing away at the rear chrome strip. Where can I get just this back curtain? It looks like it is a seperate piece from the rest of the top and the Fisher manual shows it that way as well. My second question is how hard is this to do? Am I better off taking it to someone who can professionally install this? The remainder of the top was replaced by the previous owner so it is still in excellent shape. I do want to keep a glass rear window...much nicer to look at when the top is up! Any help is appreciated!
  5. hmmm, if you got debree and your fuel lines look ok you may have a dirty fuel tank...yuck.
Although I don't have alot of experience with fuel systems, if you want some help over the weekend let me know as I'm also in the Rochester NY area. Scottsville. Drop me a line:
john@buddybox.com
  6. Being a "younger" (below 35) buyer that recently purchased a car and am planning on buying another in the short term let me add this: When my wife and I looked at buying cars she would not even entertain a Buick calling it a "car for old people". Alot of her friends in college said the same thing when I brought this up. This is what Buick and GM need to be concerned with or buick will be the next olds.
I was raised with Big Buicks and loved them (still do), but the only one I'd entertain buying right now is the Regal but if I had to choose between that and say a Pontiac Grand Prix, Buick would lose. Buick needs to look at making a full line of EXCEPTIONAL cars again like it used to and not the blandaise mix they have now. btw, everyone I know thinks the Rend. is one ugly SUV. I've heard the word minivan in the same sentence alot. I'm waiting to see if Mercury actually makes a drop-top Maurader...if they do and Buick has the same line-up, you can count on me getting the Mercury even though I'm a GM fan.
I don't mean to sound negative on a Buick list but it's what I feel and have heard. I love Buicks and always will, when they honor some of the past traditions they stood up for. btw, My wife would have bought a Blackhawk if they ever made one!
Just my 2 cents...
  7. I'm having the same problem with my 1970 electra. It's sitting out front right now because of this problem. We put it up on the rack and found a leak in the fuel line between the gas tank and the pump. Causes loss of power under load and inability to run at higher RPM's for much time. Just like the shop maual says for a dirty fuel filter. It sounds identical, you might want to visually check your fules lines and see if you can see anything. Moisture spots, cracks, etc. I've been tols that depending on driving conditions, these old lines will deteriorate and start to fall apart just like any other metal parts. :-) Hope that helps!
  8. All:
I'm in need of upper/lower door hinges for the drivers door, preferably NOS, but used good working order will also work. I want to rebuild the hinge if necessary before I pull the door so the door is off as little time as possible. I'm also looking for a outside door handle for the drivers door that does not have any pits. Mine is starting to pit pretty badly. Also (there is always that also) need the chrome pieces from the rear wheels back on both sides lining up with the bottom trim. Previous owner stripped them off before paining and never put them back on! :-(
Any help is appreciated!
John@buddybox.com
  9. I am in need of some parts for my 1970 electra convertable and have seen some parts on eBay for GM models near the same year and was wondering if they are the same part, just listed on a different auto. The most recent of these parts are:
Door Hinges from a 1969 Firebird
Exterior Door Handles From an GM A Body (less button and spring)
Neither has part numbers posted. Were these parts interchangable with the same on my 1970 electra?
As always, any help is appreciated.
Big John
  10. I know a gent who repairs electronics and he is looking for a place that would stock or sell parts for newer model and late model GM AC Delco Radios. Right now he is searching for parts for a 99 AC Delco Radio and a 1970 Radio out of a Buick (mine!). Does anyone know of any retailers that would have these parts?
  11. I need a source for floor pans and trunk pan(s) for my 1970 Buick Electra 225. I should probably get some new carpet too ;-) Not really worried about it being NOS, just good quality. The current pans are toast so I need to replace them. Not going to be a fun job, but maybe I'll find that build sheet hiding in the back seat when I do the job! If you have done this before on an Electra, feel free to let me know how it went at john@buddybox.com. Any help is much appreciated.
  12. Thanks for the replies. Anyone know what the address for GM legal might be? :-)
  13. I've been toying with the idea of putting some of the old documentation I've been collecting up onto a web site. For example, I have microfiche for 65-75 Buick parts. Diagrams, part numbers, etc. From the buick dealers. My question, is there any legal reason that I cannot do this with old documentation such as this microfiche or assembly manuals? Stuff that either does not have a copyright or has one that is expired. I know this would make the guys who specialize in selling this stuff not very happy, but I'm tired of searching and paying for less than readable documentation. :-)
  14. Hi!
I have recently obtained a American Flag in a white paper box that has the Buick Tri-Shield on it. Did Buick give these away as a promotional sales item? If so, what year did they do this in? I picked it up to display with my 70 Electra 225 when I go to cruises and shows. I just would like to have some idea of authenticity and timeframes.
Thanks!
  15. Yes it's a 50 star flag and it is in a white cardboard box. It's also a round buick tri-shield sticker on the box if that helps.
  16. What was the correct center cap for the 1970 Buick Electra 225 with "sport" wheels? Was it the centercap with only the tri-shield, or was it the center caps with the smaller tri-shield and the words "Buick Motor Division" around the outside edge of the rim?
I'm also looking for a front bumber emblem if anyone may have one (I know it's the rarest piece for this car, but I'll keep asking!)
My Buick Page needs updated! http://www.buddybox.com/70buick
Thanks!
John
