  1. I also contacted the owner and she is very positive that it's a 1929 where it is anything but. They had a 46S in both years but this is very much a 1930. Wheelbases are different with the 30 being smaller. I think the whole exterior was redone probably forty years ago. I do think it's a real ad and I would bet that the reserve is very high. The car probably fell into her possession and she , like many others , don't bother to do any research on what they have when the world is at their fingertips. I wouldn't think about buying this without having friendly eyes check it out first.
  2. The maroon paint has oxidized and was buffed out but not as much as it could have been so it appears very shiny from a distance but up close not as much. Left the "patina" on it.
  3. For sale: My 1933 Buick Model 57 has dual sidemounts with the original covers and the trunk rack on the rear. It is a solid car with no evidence of any work ever being done to the body. Its lack of rust and mostly original paint comes from being garaged by it's two owners. The correct maroon body with black fenders was a late in the year option. The wood in the body is fine. The interior was redone a long time ago. I think what you see are covers over the original at least on the seats. It has the Wizard Control but missing the floor button. The clutch does disengage so it is hooked up. I think the clutch needs adjustment as it grabs too much in first. Fine in second and third. Could be the Wizard needs to be adjusted. I can't get under to look. Carb has been cleaned. Interior of rear tank looks rust free. Oil pan was taken down and interior was spotless. Needs pass side sunvisor. Lady on radiator cap is a bit loose on her mount. There is a small hole on the rear belt line below the window. Don't know why. Needs muffler. What you're looking at is a very complete car that doesn't need much and can be driven for fun without having to worry about finding parts. The ignition parts, ( cap, rotor, points, etc.. are cheap and available) Car doesn't need them now. Thanks for looking. SOLD
  4. You have a 1931 Model 87. There should be a tag on the firewall that has this. The ID should be 31059 not 31053. It has the big engine in it as stated and there have been a few heads floating around for this should you need one. Nice car. Al
  5. You have the rack mounted correctly. When you fold it down the bottom of the rack without the chrome strips should be facing up. The trunk is made to sit inside the rack not on top of it. The problem you have with tightening the bolt is that somebody stripped the threads in the rack that you screw it back into in the down position. On my car it was not easy to get that screwed in without some playing with it so I guess whoever had your car didn't have patience. You have to get that piece redone to accept the same bolt. Changing to a "different"size will not work unless you redo the threads in the up position hole also. Longer will not work as it will not let the trunk inside the rack. Nice car by the way. That red car has the wrong trunk. The 33, 34, 35 trunk is bigger and looks the same. I am looking for a 33 trunk. Al
  6. Looks correct to me from what I have seen before. The air conditioner is a non original extra. I was looking for a 38-90L limo with a divider window in black. Here is the rear of a 38-91 that was painted green and had a Century engine in it but the inside was correct.
  7. There are a few radio restoration places that could probably help with the key blank. I have an early Buick with a key stored away. If I find it I'll look. The reason for the key is that the radio was installed with the pos voltage direct to the battery side of the ignition with an inline fuse. The key stopped others from leaving it on and draining the battery fast
  8. 1936 Century. The first digit 6 is for 60 series. It will fit the 80 and 90 series also but is correct only for the 60 series.
  9. Congrats on getting a nice car. The vin or serial # in this case will only tell you what model year it is. For 1931 it has to fall between 2460544 and 2602732. The engine number will not match the serial # and that has to be between 2613338 and 2751922. If this is true then you are in good shape. On the firewall there is a plate that has the model, paint and trim #. It might also have a separate plate below it with the manufacturing date.
  10. Don't think that I am too off the wall but what if you do have a cut off petcock like I do in my 25 Buick and after that have a "Y" pipe with a cap on one side of the "Y" facing up that can be unscrewed. This way you can cut off the gas source from the tank. let the engine use up the gas and then open the pipe and put in some gumout , Marvel mystery or what ever you like. You could also just unscrew the line to the carb every time and put the cleaner down that way. I'm going to do this in my vacuum tank and carb which is "varnish central" at this time.

  14. Have a 1958 Mark III four door hardtop for sale. Needs to be restored. Blue with blue interior. Exterior appears to be straight. Seats are ripped up. Haven't got into it yet but it appears to be more than my health will let me. Engine runs. . Long Island, NY. Al email me bimorph (at) yahoo (dot) com The car has not been cleaned yet.
  15. There is a Duesenberg town car in "Three on a Match" It is given a full screen shot from the driver's side toward the end of the movie. From across the street two men are talking about it and one says to the other, "Used to be that they got a new one every year". This was 1932.
  16. Turner Classic Movies is showing 1932 era movies today. Lots of great cars. In the one that just went off called "The Mouthpiece" a car (1928 Caddy?) is waiting on the street with the end of a revolver just appearing next to the pulled down shade. I always wondered what they used those shades for. As the intended victim leaves the building the camera shows the driver moving the throttle lever on the steering wheel to make the car backfire as the guy in the back seat pops off three shots. At 1PM eastern , "Three on a Match" is on and that also has many cars and a town car used by the actors. Some of these can be found on You tube. All these cars were brand new when these movies were made. It's as close as you can get to being there without a time machine. Hmmm. I think a Duesenberg won't have any problems getting up to 88 mph but then there is that 1.21 giggawatts.
  17. Thanks for the responses. Keith is it the same NB code for the two and four barrel? Racer, thought that somebody might have changed for mileage reasons but looks like never touched Rivnut, yes numbers match
  18. Friend just picked up a 44469 Skylark four door sedan with the 340 code NB in it but it has a two barrel carb. This is a two owner car and it looks original. Did Buick sell this engine with a 2BC instead of the 4BC? Has factory AC also. Car is fast!!! thanks, Al
  19. The whole movie serial looks like it was made for ten bucks which is what I like about it. TCM plays a lot of early thirties movies that show the cars in their somewhat natural habitat. Every car in the street doesn't have white walls. Many of the movies make "fun" of the wealthy which was good entertainment to the newly poor so there are a lot of big classics pulling up to the mansion or night club. TCM usually has a few 1929 to 1934 movies in a row and tomorrow morning at 7:45 eastern time they start with a 1929 Joan Crawford flick. These movies were made before the code was put into effect so they are surprisingly very racy. http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/304993/Upper-World-Movie-Clip-I-Can-t-Hear-The-Engine.html
  20. If you get Turner Classic Movies then put it on now as they are playing the 1930's movie serial. Great cars. They just blew up a 1929 Cadillac sedan. Also went to a auto junk yard where one of the guys is almost killed when they drop an old motorcycle off the building on top of him but miss. Probably a 1917 Indian. During a car chase between the Hornet and the crooks in a 1933 Cadillac , the different shots of the chase go from daytime to night time and back again. Then before the Caddy , which was still a valuable car to them then, goes off the cliff it turns into a 1920's sedan. Will be on again next Saturday.
  21. Would you believe...... that your posted picture is a 1925?
  22. How can I drive in NY without a horn? Can somebody please inform me how to get the horn ring off without doing harm to it. It has the power steering emblem on it. thanks, Al
  23. Well, new riveted shoes go on and car still pulls to the right. Front drums are aluminum and both were cleaned during initial new shoes installation. The left front had some kind of black dust on it which gave it a different feel from the right after cleaning it again. Had the left drum cut just a fraction to take off what ever this was and car stops straight!!!!! Drums mic up as new. Grease seals are perfect. Some kind of aluminum oxidation??? Hope it doesn't come back. Thanks to all that helped. Now on to the wipers........ Al
  24. Jerry, I'm getting Bendix riveted brakes put on my 58 tomorrow tomorrow. I'll let you know if it solves my problem. Al
