1. Nice job Doug. It takes all the guessing out of the game and lets people know the score.
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-16-2001).]
2. I think maybe we've got a Region in the oven and it's cooking. Hey, this DF thing really works! Let's all root for the successful formation of a new Region in the Western Division by the Mid-Year Board Meeting in June.
3. A friend of mine in Glen Burnie, MD used to say, "you don't have to be crazy to fool with old cars, but it sure helps!". Yeah, I'm home. Drove six hours, looked at the car for ten minutes and drove six hours home ....what's the sign for "sheepish"?
4. It's a 56 Buick Century 4dr Hardtop John. I need one for my 45th high school Reunion in Oct. Judy thinks its nuts But she's willing to ride. It'll have to be really good tho, or they can look at the '48 at the Reunion. So now I'm off to see the wizard. Catchya later
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-17-2001).]
5. Wow, THANK YOU!! You can tell I'm new to this job. A quick look in the back of the current magazine and there is NO Region in Utah!! My face is red. Obviously, Utah is in the Western Division. That makes it seven (7) states. I once knew some folks in Salt Lake City who collected old cars; even visited one on a cross-country trip. He collected Buicks (no surprise seeing my email address).
If you are at all interested in helping to get something started for a Region in Utah, please contact me and I'll give you all the support possible. Meanwhile, as Ted Schneider said, next we'll move on to the AACA Roster to start making contacts.
I've been on the phone to two states in the last two days. For those of you who did not attend Philadelphia, there are four new Region's Chairpersons in the Regions field, one in each Division. The Western Area Chair is Tom Deering of Santa Barbara, CA. The Central Chair is Joanna Cooper of Broken Arrow, OK; the Southeastern Chair is Patt Paquett of Mobile, AL and the Eastern Chair is Jeff Locke of Chesapeake, VA. We will all be workiung hard on Region support. However, very high on our list of "to do's" is the effort to establish at least one new Region or Chapter in states that currently do not have one. Thanks again for bringing Utah to my attention.

6. Jan: I love cheese too Some seem to wonder about the Divisional Tour nickname. Earl Muir deserves credit for that. I kept thinking of an old Forties song they played at my high school dances in the mid-fifties. It is called "Sentimental Journey". I told Earl Muir one day, that would be a neat name for a tour of this type, but I couldn't use that. He said, very simply, "why don't you just use Sentimental", and the idea was born.
7. This thread has found folks in Vermont and Utah; all of whom are now reading my epistles to them. Thank you very much folks. I'm going to NC to look at an old car tomorrow morning, so if anybody else answers this thread I'll answer you when I get back. Sal, thanks for your suggestion.
8. oldscarnut: There is a nice one-page article on Oldsmobile (and REO) in the Oneida Lake Gazette (Oneida Lake Region in NY) by Jack Perkis. I'm going to send it on to the Rummage Box. I don't know if or when there will be room. If I knew how to send a scanned copy I do it for you. Send me your address separately and I will snail mail you a copy.
9. Ted: Oh yes, that is true, but I thought this would be a nice quick way to see if there was anybody out there who had a major interest in taking on this effort in their state. Might short-circuit a lot of letter writing.
10. Thanks 57 Pontiac. I'll drop you a line (via email of course haha). It has to do with my other post looking for folks in states with no Region or Chapter.
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-15-2001).]
11. Do you know someone from Utah, Vermont, New Hampshire, Montana, Oregon, Arkansas or Nebraska who is in AACA or would like to be? We have no Region or Chapter in those states, and we really need to find some folks who would be interested in starting one. If you are such a person or know such a person who would be interested in organizaing a Region in one of those states, I'd like to chat with you. Thanks
P.S.: My update put Utah onto the list.
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-15-2001).]
12. Yes Dan, Howard is correct. That is why I removed it, because it was being misinterpreted. There was no sense in letting it stay if that was the case. I hope that answers your question.
I put up an answer to that effect.
On the other hand, I don't see why it is a problem to encourage people to be on the lookout for the mail-in and encourage people to come to a Tour as a part of this forum. The fact that the magazine still isn't out to so many people just made me feel it was more necessary to get the word out that "it's coming". Also the ad in the magazine is a duplicate of my first ad rather than the second ad that I sent in.
13. 57 Pontiac you said you were in Vermont. I'm looking to ask a question of a Vermont member. Your profile doesn't list an email. How about giving me a jingle at buickman@crosslink.net. Thanks
14. Mike: It is a special kind of Eastern Divisional Tour, and you DO have to go thru headquarters to register. It is written up off to the side on the main page of the aaca lead page (or whatever the main page at www.aaca.org is called). What's different? It's the first ever mid-century tour, and is for 1928-1958 vehicles. Hopefully the name will stick and in fact there are two more in 2002 in other Divisions. I'm Chairman, and I just want to get as many cars here as possible. Sorry you consider it more hype than others who are trying to obtain maximum participation. This is an extremely historical area where it will be, but very rural as well. In fact, George Washington and Robert E. Lee were born here.
Hope that explains it to you. In case you wish to comment directly, drop me a line at buickman@crosslink.net. I'm Earl Beauchamp
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-14-2001).]
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-14-2001).]
15. I just received a phone call (that old fashioned thing in the corner) stating that the magazine had made it to Falls Church, VA, about 20 miles outside of Washington, DC
16. The team of oxen not only didn't bring the magazine to Montross today, they didn't bring any mail at all. However, it is my understanding that a Valentines Day love letter from George Washington to Martha, postmarked in 1779 at Mt. Vernon, was delivered to their home here in Montross, which is known today as Washington's Birthplace. The only advantage of our isolation is I was able to mail a letter with an 8 cent stamp the other day....well, several 8 cent stamps ( actually true, I inherited them from my parents)
17. Awe Howard,we think of you every time we look out the picture window in the master bathroom! Only problem is, now we have some neighbors who wander in the woods sometimes. By the way, I mentioned Maryland Glass & Mirror in my Buick Seminar presentation. If you recall, we established 1939 as the first use of tempered glass in the automobile (in the rear window of closed cars). The 1939 GM cars.
PS I heard what you said about deleting one edit with another at Peter's Seminar, but I didn't want to look to smart!!
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-12-2001).]
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-12-2001).]
18. Regular copy still not received here in the Northern Neck of Virginia. I'm afraid to say why that is so important to us here.
19. I've been satisfied with Richard Foster in Mass. He has an 800 number, takes Mastercard and does FM conversion. The part that wonders me is the 12 volt conversion, as to the whys you want to, and the difficult and expense that this part of the job might involve.
Remember if you convert your car to 12 volts you can be pretty sure of losing out to the judges; because they'll pick up the difference in the wiring instantly ... at least I hope so.
Good luck with your restoration.

[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-11-2001).]
20. No hype, just conversation. But, I'll take it off for you JJJ3
21. It's a tossup between a new 1971 Ford and a new 1980 Buick Century with a 264 ci Pontiac V-8 engine. The Ford wouldn't stay in the road and wouldn't stop and drank gas, while the Buick wouldn't pull off from a light as fast as a Lincoln Zephyr. I bought a new '88 Buick Skylark with an Oldsmobile Quad 4 in it, the first Buick with that engine sold in Baltimore. I loved the car, it would go like the wind, get great mileage and handle like a sports car. But, it broke down many times with expensive repairs. However, my daughter who worked for Olds warned me and helped me get a six year, 100K extended warranty cheap. I must have broke that insurance company, but from my point of view the car was great, as long as they fixed it with big ticket repairs. I sold it at 116K in 1993 and the lady is still running it today, and she hasn't had any repairs...we must have got them all (haha). Also had a '77 Electra and a '77 Riviera that weren't much good either but they were used and somebody else had dogged them to death. I guess if I have to pick, the '71 Ford was worse overall than the '80 Century.
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-04-2001).]
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 02-04-2001).]
22. My wife started our name game many years ago when she named the blue 39 Buick sedan "Suzy Belle" and it stuck. We later named the yellow 39 Buick convertible sedan "Princess". It was sold but is now back home and is still the "Princess" tho her dress is pretty tattered and torn. The 35 Buick sedan is like the one my parents had when I was born, so we named it "Corrie" (short for Madam Corrie) after my Dad's pet name for my Mom. The 71 Riviera is named "Big Red2". Hey Ron, our old 71 Riviera was the original Big Red. hvs, do you remember the time we went to Philly with you and I limped into your driveway in Baltimore with Big Red and the fuel pump was leaking gas all over the driveway? The 66 Chrysler convertible is named "Silver". Hi Ho Silver and Away! Finally the 48 Buick doesn't really have a name yet. We're thinking of "Green Hornet" for it, but I'm afraid somebody will think it is a HUDSON!!!
23. and something to do on a winter's day
24. Since I have a major interest in seeing the Jan-Feb issue hit the mails (The mail-in Activity Request for the upcoming May 20-23, 2001 Eastern Divisional "Sentimental" Tour is contained therein), henceforth called the Sentimental Tour, I called headquarters in Hershey. The word is that if everything goes well, it will hit the mail on January 25th. So, let's hope everything is going well. The printer, the postman, the truck driver.....anybody can have an impact, but that's the expectation.
[This message has been edited by Dynaflash8 (edited 01-24-2001).]
25. Indiana, even Detroit seems to be relishing the past, while looking to the future by trying to decide how to sell their admittedly better mechanical vehicles, but boring designs. Dodge has the PT Cruiser, and Ford has the Thunderbird and now the 49er, while Buick designed the beautiful Blackhawk show car which is distinctly 1939 when you look at it. I can't wait to buy a brand new 1939 Buick with a/c, automatic, ps and pb, and CRUISE CONTROL. Now that would tell me they're really getting the idea up there. But, alas, I heard on the news last night that 9 states and the Federal Government are looking into using GPS (satellite) to track how many miles each of us are going and charge us a tax by the month. Is that Big Brother or what? It would put me in the Poor House!! I drive over 40K a year, pushing 50K. Ahhhh, but it is wonderful to live in the ultimate Boondocks, where there is little traffic and almost no stop lights. But for that you have to drive 100-200 miles a day at least just to see doctors, buy food, clothes, see a movie, buy shoes, of most of find a copy center for the club newsletter. Maybe "farm livin'" "ain't" the life for me" here at Green Acres.
