1970 Country Squire
J Tryloff replied to J Tryloff's topic in Ford, Edsel & Mercury - 1954 and Newer
I have sold this car and the parts car. They were replaced with an already restored 1970 country squire. I have found this to be the cheapest option. I will post a picture of the new car once it arrives. The new car has plenty of things I can repair and maintain on it, but it does not need a full restoration like these two did. -
Put me down for one or two special six gaskets. I will pick them up and drop off some clutch parts.

Valves for a 1922 EL Special Six?
J Tryloff replied to velostigmat's topic in Studebaker, Erskine & Rockne
I have a line of a set of valves .005 oversized stems. I forget the price but I think it was fairly reasonable. If interested I will message you the gentleman's contact info. -
My 23 special six had a lot of leaking around the spark plugs and where the intake manifold seals to the engine.

What is the gasket type material that goes between the engine and the splash pans? Mine is deteriated to the point of bring unrecognizable. I am assuming these pans were painted black? Thank you in advance.

I am looking to purchase 1 clutch spring, and 1 intermediate plate. I would also purchase an entire parts clutch assembly if available. One of my springs is bent, and my intermediate plate is worn very thin, with less than 1/3 or the original disk remaining. I will post pictures and measurements either later tonight or tomorrow morning, depending on when I get home from work tonight.

Special Six/Big Six valve lifters
J Tryloff replied to Axial_Flow's topic in Studebaker, Erskine & Rockne
I'm in ohio as well. I need the piece that rides on the cam. At least 3 of mine show pretty decent ware. I'd be willing to get in line behind axial, as this was originally their post. -

Thank you very much Stude Light. Would you have the intake gaket part number as well? -
24 special six gasket questions.

Would you happen to have part numbers for a 24 model year? I am unable to locate a 24 and older parts manual, only 25-29 -
24 special six gasket questions.
J Tryloff replied to J Tryloff's topic in Studebaker, Erskine & Rockne
Do you have pictures or know that material / thickness of the original gaskets? I would like to not put this one on if I don't have to. Also, any information on the gaskets or lack of at either end of the cylinders? Thanks in advance -
I bought a gasket kit from olsens. This is the intake/ exhaust gasket that came with it. When I had disassembled the engine it had individual gaskets for each hole. The new gasket looks like it will do a good job of sealing the manifolds, but I'm concerned about looking original. Any opinions on this? On the two small metal pieces at either end of the cylinders, is there a gasket or anything to seal this opening? Its showing daylight at all sides of the plate. Im not sure how much oil gets up here, but surely it will be leaking out of both sides? I could probably cut some cork to seal this a little better.

Special Six/Big Six valve lifters
J Tryloff replied to Axial_Flow's topic in Studebaker, Erskine & Rockne
We're you ever able to find some lifters? I have a few that are starting to wear and I would hate for them to ruin my camshaft. -
1923 special six engine fastener torque specs
J Tryloff replied to J Tryloff's topic in Studebaker, Erskine & Rockne
Thank you. I will do this. -
I have read my studebaker shop manual, and dykes manual. There is no torque specs anywhere, which I assume is normal for the period. I have main journals set to .003 clearance and rods at .002, and have them both currently torqued to 50 ftlbs. Is this enough? Also, head stud torque? I'm using an nos Victor gasket if it matters. Thanks in advance.

I would be interested in a set of brackets as well, after Roger gets his. Roger, I will post a picture of mine (24 special touring) tomorrow. My left side bracket is broken, but will still present the same in a picture.

Wanted 1921 EJ clutch friction disc
J Tryloff replied to Paul schaefer's topic in Studebaker, Erskine & Rockne
If you still need these, I'm having two made for my 24 special six. I'm not sure if the dimensions are the same, but if you verify your disk ID and od, in sure they could make a few more. -
Degreasing a 100 year old frame.
J Tryloff replied to J Tryloff's topic in Studebaker, Erskine & Rockne
I'll have it functional again for this year, but I really want to make sure I don't rush things so I can get it as best as I can for it's 100th birthday party next season. Thays the main goal. -

The engine is currently out of the car. Otherwise, it is assembled. I will use the above methods and report back. It may be a couple weeks or more though. My company is very busy this time of year getting farm equipment ready.
