  1. “Who is Spencer Tracy?” - Future buyer if you were to try selling it 5-10 years from now. Nice car. These do not bring that kind of money.
  2. Wow. I have to question if that ad is legit. That looks like a steal, even if it has some needs that aren’t mentioned. Thankfully I am far away. If it was local I’d already be on my way home with it. And my wife would probably be calling an attorney.
  3. Seems like a lot of early ‘60s Mopars showing up on the market lately. On my local CL and Facebook, and elsewhere too. I’ve never owned one. They sure do have unique styling. This one might be OK. Can’t tell much from the pics and even less informative ad text.
  4. Matt, in the bicycle world the correct number of bikes is always N + 1, where N is the current number you own. Seems like that rule can just as easily apply to pre-war rounded black 4 door sedans.
  5. FWIW, in my experience most RWD American cars of the sixties work best with near zero offset. Large positive offsets as used on many modern cars don’t work well.
  6. Hub centric means the wheel is centered by the hub. So the wheels should have a center hole that matches the axle or hub diameter. The nuts hold the wheel on but they aren’t designed to center it. Lug centric means the wheel can “float” on the hub until the lugs nuts are tightened. The lug nuts are conical and they need to mesh with wheels that are countersunk at the bolt holes. A lug/hub centric mismatch can result in vibrations. A good wheel shop will have gauges to measure what wheel width and backspacing/offset are required. Or you can measure your current wheels and any extra room on both sides of the tire and do the math.
  7. I love this time of year in New England. Crisp, cool air. Warm apple cider (and cider donuts!). Colorful leaves. And my favorite fall phrase, required in every car ad: “Easy winter project.”
  8. Answered my own question with a Google search. These were a fixed top with cloth cover. The side curtains rolled up and down like a roller window shade.
  9. “My old man’s a TV repairman. He’s got the ultimate set of tools. I can fix it!” - J Spicoli
  10. Craigslist uses an Email relay - if you reply to the ad it goes to a CL mailbox and gets forwarded to the advertiser. That way you (and the seller) are not giving up your actual email address. Scammers will immediately try to get your real email address. I like how some sellers will use CL email relay but require you to send your phone number before they will respond.
  11. Neat car. It looks pretty solid but needs everything. I am curious about the top. Is this the way they came? Is that a fixed top or does it fold somehow?
  12. Seems like a great, inexpensive way to get into the hobby in general, or Corvairs specifically. I love white with red!
  13. Very cool car in a gorgeous color. I love it. A weekend of detailing that engine compartment would make it even better. I don’t like when sellers include threats in the ad though. Air conditioning is a bonus. I like the dual master cylinder conversion as a safety feature even if that and the aftermarket brake booster detract from the seeming originality of this beauty.
  14. Very cool. Great find. I avoid RHD cars but I think I could make an exception for this one. I wonder what those banana plug jacks on the dash are for.
  15. I really like this one. It has a lot of needs but I love the looks of these. I would negotiate that asking price quite a bit though. Thankfully I am far from MN so I am not tempted.

  17. I copied and pasted the original ad into Google’s beta test version of “Google Car Ad Translate” and here’s what it returned: “For sale: rusty POS with bad engine. I watch too much TV and have no actual experience with cars, so I am asking crazy money for a clapped out pile of scrap metal that was sunk up to the rocker panels in a rust belt field for the past 30 years. I am so confident in my abilities to sell crap that I demand a large payment up front, and because I project my own dishonesty on others I don’t trust you so you must overpay me up front before we can fully consummate this transaction. “
  18. I looked at the classic auto mall pics. Looks like a victim of the dreaded BToD. (Blue tarp of death) Current seller has it looking way better in his pics than it did at the mall. At least he is honest about it.
  19. 😀 I think he accidentally left off “desperately needed” at the end.
  20. https://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/d/naugatuck-1967-pontiac-gto/7400413323.html “1967 Pontiac GTO, vinyl hardtop. Frame Off Restoration” Short on words, and pics are terrible, but there’s been some GTO discussion lately so I thought it might be of interest. More pics in the ad.
  21. Well, boats don’t have brakes and people cruise in them all the time. 😀
