1964 Chrysler Imperial Crown Coupe - $4,800
Gearheadengineer replied to a topic in "Not Mine" Automobiles For Sale
Wow. I have to question if that ad is legit. That looks like a steal, even if it has some needs that aren’t mentioned. Thankfully I am far away. If it was local I’d already be on my way home with it. And my wife would probably be calling an attorney. -
Wheel offset and width maximums for a 62 le sabre?

FWIW, in my experience most RWD American cars of the sixties work best with near zero offset. Large positive offsets as used on many modern cars don’t work well. -

Hub centric means the wheel is centered by the hub. So the wheels should have a center hole that matches the axle or hub diameter. The nuts hold the wheel on but they aren’t designed to center it. Lug centric means the wheel can “float” on the hub until the lugs nuts are tightened. The lug nuts are conical and they need to mesh with wheels that are countersunk at the bolt holes. A lug/hub centric mismatch can result in vibrations. A good wheel shop will have gauges to measure what wheel width and backspacing/offset are required. Or you can measure your current wheels and any extra room on both sides of the tire and do the math. -
FS 1925 STUDEBAKER DUPLEX PHAETON BIG 6 model EP, BARN FIND

Answered my own question with a Google search. These were a fixed top with cloth cover. The side curtains rolled up and down like a roller window shade. -
Craigslist uses an Email relay - if you reply to the ad it goes to a CL mailbox and gets forwarded to the advertiser. That way you (and the seller) are not giving up your actual email address. Scammers will immediately try to get your real email address. I like how some sellers will use CL email relay but require you to send your phone number before they will respond.

FS 1925 STUDEBAKER DUPLEX PHAETON BIG 6 model EP, BARN FIND
Gearheadengineer replied to JC Boutin's topic in CCCA - Buy/Sell
Neat car. It looks pretty solid but needs everything. I am curious about the top. Is this the way they came? Is that a fixed top or does it fold somehow? -
Very cool car in a gorgeous color. I love it. A weekend of detailing that engine compartment would make it even better. I don’t like when sellers include threats in the ad though. Air conditioning is a bonus. I like the dual master cylinder conversion as a safety feature even if that and the aftermarket brake booster detract from the seeming originality of this beauty.

I copied and pasted the original ad into Google’s beta test version of “Google Car Ad Translate” and here’s what it returned: “For sale: rusty POS with bad engine. I watch too much TV and have no actual experience with cars, so I am asking crazy money for a clapped out pile of scrap metal that was sunk up to the rocker panels in a rust belt field for the past 30 years. I am so confident in my abilities to sell crap that I demand a large payment up front, and because I project my own dishonesty on others I don’t trust you so you must overpay me up front before we can fully consummate this transaction. “

😀 I think he accidentally left off “desperately needed” at the end.
