  1. Very nice. Is it still on air suspension or was it converted to springs?

the closest thing to getting it “registered” would be to have it judged at the Cadillac & LaSalle Club Grand National.  This summer it is outside of Chicago and in 2023 it is in Albuquerque NM.   This judging is based on as delivered to the dealership.

OK, gentlemen, let me try to make this very clear.

Believing that these outrageous prices at specialty car auctions, especially those on TV, are all real and that someone “with more money than brains” actually pay such monies is like believing in Santa Claus or Tooth Fairies.

99% or more of these “crazy results” are just marketing gimmicks developed and employed by auction companies to make people talk about (especially in forums dedicated for such vehicles, like this one) and eventually consign cars with them in (false) hope of a big pay day.

While there are plenty of wealthy folks doing inconceivable (or stupid) stuff all the time, there aren’t that many spending their money on cars that nobody else would.

Again, until someone (any of you ?) provides me with verifiable proof of these crazy money prices actually being paid, I continue to believe they are just BS, nothing more, nothing less.

And this same BS has been going on for as long as I can remember.

I recall 30+ years ago people being flabbergasted about some absolutely insane prices (allegedly) being paid at BJ’s and other similar circuses.
With the introduction of internet/online and TV productions, it all became and will continue to be even more inevitable.
Production of on-going and sustainable content isn’t cheap.

Are you suggesting that rm auction, bonhams, Mecum, etc are running conspiracies where the buyer/seller/auction house are falsifying prices paid for cars?

Can you provide any evidence to back that up?

That is what they implied and I wondered how official and approved that was by Packard.  Thanks.

I don’t know if there was a official update package from the factory or one dealer updated this particular car on their own.  I am sure the Packard people know one way or another.

Because I'm interested in someday having a Roadster, I'm always looking.  World Wide Auctions had an 840 Roadster that was very nice looking and when it went across last week at Scottsdale, it bid to 220, and stopped and they pushed it off unsold for not meeting reserve.  They mentioned it had "upgrades", which they said was done to some late 8 series cars (grill and headlights and others).  It wasn't clear to me if this was done at the factory and was accepted as correct or if someone after the fact put them on because they thought it looked better.  Did anyone see this car go across?  It had me wondering what the relative price points are on a 640, vice 740, vice 840 Roadster.  It seems like it can get pretty complicated.  Was the specific car originally a roadster or has it been rebodied, obviously condition and ownership history.   Who in the Packard world can educate me on the relative merits and value between the 6-8 series roadsters?  I love the 133 inch wheelbase versions of these series also.  Are these series all about equal in perceived value or is one much more appreciated by Packard collectors and priced above the others?

I think they are referring to 1932 upgrades done at the dealership to make left over 1931 cars appear like 1932 models.

  5. My suggestion for anyone considering a car is to join the club of that mark and go to the national meet.  Talked to owners of the cars you are interested in.

the CLC grand national is outside of Chicago this summer.

Most 1936 Cadillacs are missing those items, especially the voltage regulator and carburetor/ air cleaner.   It will depend on what you want to do with the car.  If it is for touring, then not really a big deal.

  6. Just did this.  Contacted dealer via email. Ordered the car over the phone. Got exactly what I wanted (color, options, interior color) and never stepped in the dealership (which was in a different state).

They delivered it to my door.

only issue was it took 4 months from phone call to delivery, due to the “chip shortage. “

  7. I have never seen a pleated seat on a convertible sedan (authenticity restored). I understand the pleated seats for sedans/ coupes.

I skipped the one in MN (when it was asking $70k in Illinois) due to the two tone paint and pleated door panels and seats.

below is my understanding of what the door panels/doors should look like.  (Yes it is a coupe, not a sedan)
