  1. It looks like this fellow collects Buicks and has a man cave to work on them --
  2. I understand not focusing on the electrical but to me, as a restorer, I think that would be a blast. Electronics are a mystery to me overall, and that is probably why they are avoided by restorers. To get a Rhode Island kit with instructions would be fun. To me.
  3. Yes, but proper storage goes a long way toward preservation. I do wonder about a different mindset back then that said these were old cars but not necessarily "special" cars worthy of better storage. Not sure.
  4. I wonder if it is complete, just in pieces. Hard to tell.
  5. I bought a 66 with 105,000 miles, drove fine. When rebuilding the motor, all of the components were worn out internally. Heads, wear components, camshaft, timing components. This car is close to my car’s mileage. Don’t get me wrong, it could probably last another 30,000 miles with maintenance but NOT at a $20,000 #2 price.
  6. Absolutely no. 94,000 is not low mileage. This seller wants 50,000 mile price for basically a 100,000 mile car. For $20,000 I would want that carb rebuilt so you don’t have to pump it to start. He doesn’t want to do anything to it, that is difficult. Pass pass pass. Bad colors too.
  7. I do wonder if that wood graining is correct. It goes into the doors and looks well done. Why would someone go to that extreme and be not accurate?
  8. I do not normally go for 6 cylinder cars when 8's are offered but this shows again, there is value in pre war closed cars. I recently followed a 1928 Buick Master 6 until it sold for $12,000. It was a nice driver, that took 3-4 months to sell. This one will likely sell for $10,000 to $11,000 and have a hard time finding the right buyer.

  10. Solid? Look at that scrabby door bottoms.
  11. I am not sure it's a parts car because it is truly a low mileage car and is complete. It's original interior is something else, still needing restored but all there in the original patterns. He and I have talked. It came out of long, long term storage near Milwaukee, if I remember right. Poor storage caused the rust. If it was driven in Wisconsin in the mid to late fifties, as it seems it was, then the metal was coated with salty brine at least 4 years or so (26,000 original miles likely true, but back then drivers did not put 15,000 miles a year on a passenger car, typically) Then it was in storage from about 1960 until last year. I always find it curious when it is noted that a car is a parts car, and I am not singling you out, you and I find a lot of "project" level cars that we feel can be or should be restored - and other members opine that "that is just a parts car." My curiosity lies in "who is restoring any cars anymore that parts would be given up for from this or any car?" I am looking extensively for a 1972-1981 Camaro or Firebird to restore with a young man (Big Brother Big Sister type deal) and most are rusty and worn out. Inevitably there is a comment from the seller either in the ad or in response to my asking about price - "I can part it out for more than I am asking." OK, sure, but the valuable parts on those years are generally posis, front and rear sway bars, rear disc brakes on the later 70's cars, interior etc, all parts which take a lot of time and effort to remove, for buyers that may or may not materialize. On this 55 Century, I am pretty sure the convertible top frame and associated parts would be worth about $2,000, but how does a potential buyer find you? Maybe a Hemmings ad. But I do think this one is still restorable, but he has had it for sale for over a year and monkeyed with price. I have seen it below $10,000 at one time.
  12. Hey Matt, This is the one up in Wisconsin I posted about 9 months ago. No issue reposting. He has played with the price and is basically non communicative. It's an interesting project car, I think even Pete commented on it. But the seller is a bit of an odd guy if he does not want to price adjust or expand his market. Looks as if he is trying different markets now. Personally I am sure there are some monied collectors out there that would buy this and turn it over to a restoration shop and drop $150,000 but I don't think it is me.

  14. This would be a nice hobby car for $6,000 or so. Enough with this nonsense of these cars being offered for $10,000 to $20,000. This is a neat car but it’ll be hot in the summer and no power accessories. So it’s in competition for $ from still millions of collector cars from the 1950s on.
  15. Wow. Most of the comments lack common sense. I organized the Buick Club of America (BCA) Pre War Division post National tour in 2010. We had modern cars in the tour but the Slowest car went 1st. That ensures that what was described in the beginning of this thread does not happen.
  16. Yes exactly. That’s why it’s important for members here to post cars when they find them. Glad it sold.
  17. The poster child, or one of the poster children, for why no one does "projects" any more. See the long thread in the General Section. Yes, it may be plain, but you slide behind the wheel, get situated, and move the key to start and the 389 comes to life. You are instantly transported back to 1963. I have owned and daily driven a 64 Grand Prix, loved it, but not much difference from this Catalina. $18,000 is too much. But not too much higher. Say you offered $14,000, he would take it. $10,000 is probably too low for such a nice original low mileage car.
  18. Overpriced but neat. Seller will realize the problem with pricing

  20. This is not a collector vehicle we often see on the Not Mine section but it caught my eye because of the “money shot” if you will – of the side profile. Arguably the post square bird 61-66 era is more sought after, especially by Ford T Bird enthusiasts, and there is a lull which is never completely satisfactory. When the T Bird picked up with shared Lincoln platforms in 1969, one could argue that the car to collect would be the Continental Mark derivative. I like T Birds too from 1969 to 1973, but apples to apples I would pick a Lincoln Mark. I have not been a fan of the 61-66 T Birds solely because of the “squared” off roof. The rest of the car evokes motion, and the interiors were still highly competitive with the GM upstarts like Grand Prix, Starfire, Wildcat and Riviera. The Riviera though, cemented Ford’s styling decision to go formal roof as a styling feature. The Riviera however, is a much better styled totality of design in 1963-65. The Square Bird of 1958-1960 by most accounts is considered a styling dog, but I love them because they are so overdone, they speak to a different time and place. Own one and I am sure you enjoy the styling, performance and enjoyment of the old car hobby. But for 1967, Ford under Henry the Deuce and Iacocca were looking at commonalities and cross pollination and that is why the T Bird became a 4 door and the convertible was dropped. Love it or hate it, the 67 basic T Bird 2 door hardtop is an interesting and styled car meant to separate the past from the future.
