  1. Groselle, would you be kind enough to post some close up photos of the tie down loops and a measurement between the screw holes? Just when I think I have all the information I need something new crops up! Cheers Paul
  2. Well, I have not driven my Buick this weekend but I have started planning the 1200 mile round trip to the Buick Club of Victoria's 50th Anniversary meet in October 2017. The map shows the highway route but I will be travelling out further west to take in old country towns such as Katoomba located in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. Bathurst, site of first Australian gold rush in the 1850s and location for the most famous of Australian car races - the Bathurst 1000. Cowra - famous for the escape of Japanese prisoners of war in WWII and moving on through the towns of Young, Cootamundra, Temora (has a fabulous aircraft museum) Jerilderie, the town linked the infamous Ned Kelly bush ranger and his gang in the 1870s and finally Echuca/ Moama, in the 1870s the largest inland Australian port and still famous today for its fleet of paddlesteamers. I am hoping to persuade a number of other pre-war Buick owners to form a convoy and also hope to put together a video diary of the trip....
  3. Yes, I do agree that Groselle's mat is original, Ron Cook has just posted photos to me of his original mat which is identical to Groselles. All these vehicles appear to have side mounted spares. My next step is to try and identify whether in vehicles with timber luggage shelves whether a similar rubber mat was provided or whether a carpet / fabric mat was substituted.
  4. As we speak I don't have access to the computer that has my article but I recall that there is reference in the Fisher Body manual which states that on vehicles fitted with side-mounted spare tyres the luggage shelf is deleted and a "rubber mat" supplied. Images of any possibly original rubber mat have proved elusive until to Groselle's post. My '36 is a Fisher Bodied 41X out of South Africa. My research started out from this point but has expanded to any information I was able to get my hands on and as a result my research has and is creeping into '37 '38 and even '39 mainly to fill in some gaps and also to widen the scope of interest to our magazine readers here in Australia as it seems from our vehicle register there are many more '38s and '39s than '36s or even '37s (mostly Holden bodies). The following images were provided by a couple of blokes from the US (LHS '36 and RHS '39) on Ebay earlier this year. Groselle's comment about his mat seemingly being pushed to the left leaving the exposed trunk floor on the right might be answered in image one where you can see the leather edged fabric lining extending down from the wheel arches onto the trunk floor. Image two of the '39 shows a mat of the same beige/brown colour, a very similar if not identical ribbing pattern and the plain edging Paul
  5. Hi all, Thank for all your responses. yes, I have a model 41 with sidemounts. Gary W's post of Dave's trunk appears to be original as far as my research tells me, the leather edging is a significant tell tails sign. The material used for the panel behind the seat seems the same on both Gary and Dave's trunks. Anyone hazard a guess on what it is made of? Paul
  6. Hi All, It has been a lovely sunny 62F autumn day here and a perfect opportunity for a trip out to catch up with some friends. Location is Lake Macquarie, on the New South Wales Central Coast (Australia) about 100 miles north of Sydney. My friend, the photographer, was adamant that I was to be in the photo...my apologies to you all, Cheers Paul
  7. My apologies in taking the conversation back a bit. I am having trouble locating a transmission / diff oil that that is both API GL4 and 140. Best I can find here in Australia is GL4 and 110. Any thoughts on suitability for my '36? Love the running boards Garry!
  8. Hi All, The conversation concerning transmission oil has given me pause for thought as the '36s gear box drains out...
  9. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone might have an original trunk floor mat and could they post some images please Cheers Paul White
  10. These are two of my most recent photos of my '36 which my mother has recently names "Rita"

  12. Hi All, I have received an email from an Australian Club member who provided the following information about the 1905 Buick: "The Model B (1904) and the early production of Model C (1905) both had the radiator in front of the axle. Mid year production 1905 moved the radiator into the hood cowling. These cars had 2 cylinder horizontally opposed engines located in the chassis below the seat and were epicycle transmission with chain drive. My guess is the car pictured is 1905 but it is difficult to tell the difference between B & C early production."
  13. What an amazing transformation! It prompted me to have a close look at my own steering wheel, although it is in relatively good condition, I am rather tempted to to contact Mr Donaldson and Co.!!!!!
  14. I thought the landscape looked familiar, I passed through there in 1990
  15. My daughter would love this, she has fallen in love with the boat tails, I have become quite partial to them too
  16. With weather forecasts predicting wild, rainy weather I thought I was looking at a weekend inside with the Buick under a blanket, Anyway the weathermen got it wrong again fortunately and we had a beautiful autumn's day here. So with some Artie Shaw playing I ended up going on a 60 mile trip on the back-roads of the New South Wales Central Coast (60 miles north of Sydney). On the final leg home I ran into a car show at the same location we had the ROA show and shine two weeks ago. They had a wide range of Chevrolets, Dodges, Holdens, Fords and a smattering of European cars. Only one Buick though.....Despite driving through lots of beautiful countryside that looked a lot like Maine in September, I forgot to stop and take a photo of my '36, sigh.
  17. Hi Gary, I am really enjoying watching your progress. Given the time difference here in Australia, I arrive at work to find new posts each morning. My work buddy has also become a fan...looking forward to more posts. Cheers Paul White
  18. 26 Rivieras on the road with a few other Buick models along for the ride. "Lost in the "50s" was amazing, not only for the cars but the huge collection of '50s paraphernalia. Just a few photos of to give you all and idea of what was on show and one of my loan Riv and the newest Buick convert, my daughter.
  19. I have attached a video showing most of the Rivs that attended yesterday, Hope it up loads. We are off to the "Lost in the '50s" Museum tomorrow and a trip to the local wine region for a cruise and lunch at a winery...as usual photos will follow... MAH03692.MP4
  20. ROA Australia Nationals started today with a trip to Gosford Car Museum, which is located 65 miles north of Sydney, 400 cars on site. Have a look at their website for pictures of the collection. Followed by a drive up into the country side and lunch at an historic pub. Sunny, warm autumn day with Buick, who could ask for more??MAH03692.MP4
  21. I am heading off to the Australian Riviera Nationals event this weekend, well its being held 10 miles from my home so I can't complain and wouldn't miss it, others are driving 600 miles to attend. We even have a couple from Kansas attending. A fellow club member has lent me his '78 Riv. Bit of a change from the '36 and I can't wait! Pictures will follow...
  22. On my last drive, pre-leg injury, I took the following video at the Art Deco ball in Katoomba NSW, Australia, kind of meets the criteria of did I drive a Buick! MAH03585.MP4
