I think we all get a kick out of seeing what others think is "weird." Its kind of like women.  If they all looked the same, we'd get mighty bored. You have to appreciate others' tastes just like opinions.  (And as my parents taught me - just leave politics and religion out of the discussions)  ?

Hi RivNut , Agree , like your comparison analogy to women , my preference is brunettes , so I’m appreciating other people’s tastes, ?

Best girlfriend was dark, didn’t work out, conversely,  I’ve been married to three blondes , maybe bored with first one , not bored with second one, let down , extremely happy with third . Thankfully although all blondes don’t look alike so your comment stands??

  2. When I was 19, I had a friend who was in the army , we used to go to a jazz and blues club

He had been based locally , but one night told me he was being transferred to west Germany and would I like to buy his car .

It was a jaguar D type , painted pink!! , it was the 60s mad times in Uk . We used drive round town with me sat holding the rear bulge.

As I was a friend he offered to me for £250 about $750 at the time , I had most of the money and my aunt offered me my missing 30 pounds . However my Dad wouldn’t insure it for me , I would have been the named driver , my mum was scared I kill myself as they knew it was a quick car. I couldn’t afford to insure it myself as it would have cost as much as the car. I know the car now is a fortune , however I’m realistic , as I know if someone had offered me a good profit say a year later  I would have sold it. Crystal ball would have been useful?

  3. It was my birthday this week and my step daughter knowing I like classic cars , sent me the attached card with various classic car images,

i think the makers badges have been removed or left off , probably to avoid copyright issues , so task of identifying a bit harder for me , so I thought for a bit of fun I’d ask for you classic car enthusiast friends for a bit of help.

    below is my choices

yellow , probably early  50s dodge or des Soto

Bright red , Ferrari or lancia

    Red , lotus or Ferrari

beige , late 50s Chevy or Plymouth

white, 60s Buick riveria or Lincoln

    blue early 40s Ford

over you folks , will be interesting to see what they actually represent

    thanks for help

I grew up in Upstate NY - there was a family in our town that had a Citroen DS - pretty uncommon for our region. Another family drove a Checker sedan as their everyday car. A gent I worked with had a Renault Delphene, (sp?).

We were a GM family so an AMC was pretty exotic for us!

Citroen DS 55 , one of my all time favourite cars , way ahead of its time thought it looked like a space ship

There were a few Super Snipes in the area of which I lived in Edmonton.  For a time, I owned BMC's closest competitor to the Rootes offering; a 1965 Vanden Plas 4-litre R.

    Craig

The Vanden plas  versions , of bmc cars were beautifully finished , your model was actually the car I hired for my first wedding in 1968 and friend used to give me a lift to work in a Vanden plas 1100 , class lift!!

  6. Reading throw the posts ,notice a few cars I’ve owned , Vauxhall victor , my first car , rusty, Morris minor , tough , Renault 20 , marvellous. In addition pre 75, Vauxhall’s cresta , Vauxhall Ventura , singer gazelle , Austin 1800 , Austin A40  , Hillman minx and best of all jaguar mk9

  7. Being from the UK

humbers were quite common when I was a boy , some people called them ‘ poor mans rolls Royce ‘

remember they had lovely leather and beutiful wood veneers . Super snipes were top of range I think and were large cars by English standards and often were chosen as wedding cars and official cars for council and government top dogs. Class cars , but design wise not that attractive, I preferred the Alvis which was around at the same time , may have been dearer , but being still at school physical appearance was the primary factor  my favourite cars, usually sports cars Jaguar XK 120 and my all time favourite a  corvette!!

  8. Apparently sold that’s good news for owner and me , have been severely tempted ever since it  appeared on forum particularly by price and what appears for a straight forward cosmetic restoration. However ,, thankfully Bernie cooled my  interest with his post mentioning 25k restoration costs , probably assuming car was still in US , but I think it would cost me a fair bit more with shipping  of car and cost of likely parts plus shipping to Cyprus and the deadly import tax . Probably adding a further12k at least , which brings total to approx 50k , to rich for me at present and not such a bargain as I thought. If I had 50 k to spend seen  a couple beauties for sale on this forum recently , a roadmaster and a super both fully restored and costing less.

I find this forum very interesting , and specially like following the progress of the restoration projects often posted on here,  I am always amazed at the finished cars and applaud the skills and diversity of skills shown by many of the forum members . That’s why the potential of this 54 tempted me . ?

Good luck to new owner , however, probably make me jealous if results of restoration are eventually posted. Cest la vie ! ?

  9. Notice the A40 Austin Somerset in first photo,

i had a 52 as my second car in 68 , great tough car.

wondered how many ended up in states ,  wouldn’t mind seeing any other photos you have . Saw what looked like a convertible on this forum and just this week saw a poster of a 50s British actress Diana Dors, sitting in what looked like an A40 or maybe an A90 , wasn’t aware they were produced as a convertible , must be quite rare.

apologies for going off topic .

    good luck with herald.

  10. Great photo  of cars in the snow, may make a few collectors on here gasp!  As their cars are tucked up in temp controlled luxury car pads, only jealous I'd love one.?

Dont think I'd be able to provide a similar photo , no recollection of snow in Cyprus. However with global changes , never discount anything. ?

I took my 73 Century Gran Sport Stage 1 4 speed to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Rosemont Il. last weekend. It was great to see so many beautiful Buick's. It was also great to see so many Buick friends and to see the BCA had a spot in the show to promote the club. Too many names to mention them all. This year was the largest amount of Buick's ever entered. My car won a Concours Award with 999 points (really 1000). The car also won the Platinum Pick Award Judges choice for best Buick in the show! I only drove it to the trailer and back tho.

  12. Bernie , funny how your little likes appeal to me to,

I prefer car without cover and leave it off most of the time, as I like to look at her and give a little polish if I see any finger prints or marks. Problem is in Cyprus  we get a lot of dust and sand ,said to be from Sahara , so I am continually cleaning and polishing and pride myself on keeping her pristine. However at this time of year heavy rain combined with wind  Necessitates a waterproof cover as rain will blow in open sides . I note your idea about blanking sides and I'd already done that I often bang my head ! Can't do much about the front , may hang a tarpaulin over it next year. However my cover is good and keeps car dry, at least it did last year!

Regarding how long to keep cars at my age, morbid thought  ? but good question , none of my children are interested, they like them but are not prepared to look after them so have decided that they must go during the next five years, The problem is made worse because I have little storage space in my Uk home and will only be able to park one car . Unfortunately the space won't accommodate a big American , so I'm back to small European. Sad thought! Hopefully you have someone who would love to have yours one day

     Cheers

  13. Obviously with carport open sides let in some rain when wind blowing strong to. Luckily Sun only reaches trunk area , but can get very hot in summer so I keep covered. Wintertime sun not so hot and because lower in the sky , only on car for a couple of hours so hopefully not generating to much moisture, plus lot more wind so may compensate.

Back in U.K. So fingers crossed alls going to be  Ok.

    cheers

  14. Ruby is a convertible , but I have put top up. Like bag idea , will see if I can get one. Covers, sounds like I should take material cover off , been on for 3/4 weeks before whilst returning to U.K. , no moisture on car that I've noticed when removed, but understand the theory and risk, will check. Car came with a felt cover , perished now , but left that on last winter under my loose fitting plastic one. Although I don't return for 4 months my friend who lives there all year would check and adjust , so thanks for advice will act on it.

    cheers
