It’s not a new scam. It’s the same one used on CL usually on a nice old car at a very reasonable price. Anyone with good command of the English language and good reading comprehension can see right through the scam.

I’ve seen those too, but the language and on the ones I’ve seen recently had good English and  grammar , moved up a step I think

I saw through the scam , but I don’t think everyone would initially and it’s very annoying that they manage to advertise . Think eBay must eventually be more vigorous in stopping the scammers , can’t help their image.

  2. Morning Folks , I know this subject was recently posted , but I can’t find it  and I don’t want my these scamming scum to hook anyone , with what to me is a new angle

in the last week I have found 5 eBay ads with classic cars at competitive prices , some quite silly, some as cheap as rough cars needing much TLC ,but the cars look good .

what they all have in common is the offer of more details by email , selling for a friend or family member , which can be believed or they say their sister is dealing with it email her . The ads text are usually in very large font to catch your attention or purposely to hook people with failing sight.

they all respond with same story , can’t arrange viewing because either working abroad or to busy with family affairs , but for me a new angle they offer to use a pay after you receive car PayPal system and send car to you. They purport if you pay by this system PayPal hold onto the money for up to 14 days until you tell them to release funds . They don’t do this !! I checked.

most dangerously they send a false PayPal link , explaining the system hoping you fall for it  or dumping malware onto your computer.

Pay and you’ve lost , no comeback on eBay because outside of their system as you dealt direct with seller and no comeback from PayPal as they don’t relise you think they are holding on to your money . They may try to trace money but scammers long gone .

Dont ever open links to PayPal or eBay , offered in emails , go to ligit site and check anything suspicious

Apologies if this PayPal pay after you receive already discussed on here, but at least it may make someone think I’ve heard of this scam if they see it or are offered.

Best advice is don’t buy outside of eBay if offered when responding to eBay ad.

    cheers

    “welly”  ?

    Hi Lamar

Welly is an English phrase derived from wellingtons boots , wet weather  footwear , name derived from Duke of Wellington of Waterloo fame against Napoleon

we say, give it some welly meaning , put the boot down , or when pushing or pulling we use it too meaning push or pull harder. A person with some welly has strength.

In this case put foot hard on Gas !

Another thing about wellies is here in Uk , you know the brits are class conscience and the aristocracy, old money and posh horse crowd wear green wellington boots with their tatty burburie weatherproof coats . We call them the ‘green welly brigade’

when on holiday in Scotland that’s what our Queen ‘s attire is most days !

English slang lesson over for today ??

    cheers

  4. In north Cyprus , I saw parked in the docks , range rovers, mercs , porche and Ferrari, all looked new or nearly new ,  went to a spares garage the following week some of the cars were there cut completely in half!

garage owner told us normal procedure for illegally imported cars , or those who try to skip import tax , by pretending to be tourists. Some were also used to conseal drugs .

The '41 Roadmaster ran great all weekend. I could maybe have been smoother, but it basically ran great.  I stopped on the way home and bought $20 worth of gas (ethanol gas) at $2.59 @ gallon.  I had run the car down the road for a  half hour or more at 60-65 mph like an arrow.  While stopped the temp needle went on up.  Even with a new radiator and water pump she seems to run a little over 200.  That stumps me a little.  Immediately after getting gas the car seemed to have vapor lock, but the electric fuel pump didn't seem to help.  The last 15 miles she ran rough.  I decided it was some bad gas with water in it because it was so immediate and didn't clear as the temp came down.  So yesterday I put in a bottle of HEET (yellow) and also some Startron.  She started and ran perfect.  All in all we drove about 100 miles on Black Beauty's Maiden Cruise and the other people on the CCCA Tour seemed to like the car.  All encouraged me NOT to repaint it.  A former CCCA National President said it might not be a 5-foot driver, but it was certainly an 8-10 driver.  Non-Ethanol is only available at one place where I live in Sebring, FL and it was $3.729 last week.

    Thanks Pilgrim,

Body tag says Reef Blue......blue & white leather interior......... and I think a black top......

I was wondering is the black top on a Blue Skylark unusual??      Seems like a white top would look better.

I have a Dresden Blue, 1955 Cadillac convertible with a white top.....and the car looks pretty good.

But for the Skylark, I think I'll stay with the body tag info....

    Mike

Sounds great , but agree with you ,  I think the white top  would look better than black with blue , caddy sounds nice

  7. 53 skylark!, My favourite Buick  lucky man. From what you paid, you have plenty of flexibility on what you invest into her , I suppose much depends on what you can restore yourself and save on labour costs . As the car is complete , you’ve already saved a fortune.

as your starting with appears a blank canvas , interested to know what original colour scheme was and what you plan for her.

watch with interest as you progress, going to be envious ?

    cheers

  8. Looking for a good healey project car , here in Uk rare , but notice some good dry state cars offered sometimes ,but usually already sold ,

Have looked at several dealers wrecks with many parts missing . Nearing completion of my Mga and want something with bigger engine.

would like a sister for Ruby my 53 Buick , a 55 or 56 but would have to be an expensive restored car as restoration not a practical endeavour over here. Would love a late 50s or early 60s corvette , but your looking at serious bread. Therefore my collection has to be British , jags nice but dear and complicated . Healey or TR6 favourites .

So if any of my fellow members have or know about a decent car , perhaps sitting unloved in a barn or garage at a fair price, please pm me

    cheers
