    Those look nice and I like the Buick logo.  My old eyes may be deceiving me, but your picture looks like you modified the mat where it fits around the gas pedal - correct. 

     

    No modifications necessary. These mats come with the necessary cut out for the gas pedal and a cut out for the dimmer switch with a grommet. They fit perfectly.

  2. I was looking for a set of nice front mats that I could have in for everyday driving. That way my OEM style rubber mats stay clean for shows. I purchased a set of Lloyd's front mats from a vendor on e-bay. They are the classic loop with the classic Buick tri-shield logo. You can also get the Riviera script. I am very impressed with the quality. The fit is perfect with a large coverage area. Very happy with the purchase.

    I have both the inner and outer trim pieces from Gene. I have not installed mine yet but, the fit is good with the brackets. I will probably cover with interior seat vinyl so they will have the grain as original. These won't break like the original, old, brittle plastic ones.

  4. I just did the front U-bracket reversal on my driver's seat yesterday. It turned out to be a very easy and simple conversion. Being able to raise and lower the seat in the front and the rear really makes taking out and installing the bolts very easy. The outboard rear foot on my seat had 4 identical oval holes so no drilling was needed there. The inboard rear foot had 2 circular holes with the front one being smaller as was mentioned above. That front hole was big enough for the bolt to go through. I did drill it out larger so that I had some room to shift that foot slightly when reinstalling the seat. This made it easier when aligning the other rear foot. Everything lined up easily and as it should. I like having the extra room even though it is not a huge amount. It also now allows my OEM style rubber mats to lie flat now and stay in place better. Before there wasn't quite enough room and the back edge had to curl up against the brackets and the mat had a tendency to creep forward.

    There is an idler arm for our cars (and the others listed) that implements ball bearings, which I was told is superior to the the OEM design, especially when installed on manual steering cars. When I purchased my new idler arm I was presented with both styles for purchase. I had never heard or seen the ball bearing style before that. I decided to stick with the OEM style. The bottom arm looks like the ball bearing arms that I had seen.

  7. For sale is a 1963 Buick Special, Special Deluxe, Skylark, 4000, 4100, 4300 Chassis Service Manual. The manual is used and shows the usual signs of use and wear. Overall it is in very good used condition. The front cover has some water stains on the inside and the back cover has some water stains as well.     My mind works the same way. The steering wheel is just a guess.

     

    I hope this means that Mark at Repops got back to you and that you have a pair of the correct inside strips coming! They did not charge me for mine. Let me know.

    Turbinator Bob, I have to thank-you for posting your pix's. Not for the mats but for your seats. I have the same red leather and black seatbelts in my '63. I hastily separated the seat backs from the bottoms to deliver to the upholstery shop before they closed. Later, I wondered on the little spring-loaded lanyard visible on the passenger seat in your image. I did not encounter the same on the Driver's seat. But according to your image, there isn't one for the Driver's seat. Wonder what it's for? BTW, your interior is a real looker Bob!

    Hi John,

     

    That set up is the same on my 63 as well. On the passenger side it is a plastic coated line with a loop on each end that attaches the top half of the seat to the bottom half. No spring in the arrangement. My guess is that it is there so that you don't push the top too far forward when getting in and/or it stops the seat at a certain point to give a solid place to put your hand to help in getting into the back seat. On the driver's side the seat top will contact the steering wheel stopping it from going past a certain point and also giving the solid place to use as an aid in getting into the back seat.

  10. The lack of non-ethanol fuel must be a regional/area thing. Most of the gas stations in my area (central Wisconsin) have non-ethanol premium. In all of my travels through the years I have not really had a problem getting non-ethanol gas in the areas I have been through. The only place I ran into a problem was Iowa where I have heard they grow some corn. I always carry a couple of bottles of additive to handle a tank of ethanol laced fuel if that should be the case.

     

    There is a small airport in a city that is 15 miles from where I live. I hear that they sell high octane leaded gas. It is expensive and most will go and get enough for 1/2 a tank and then mix with their normal gas.
