  1. Hi John, yes I did so some time ago. Could I ask you and the others something? Do you know if my 53 Roadmaster wheels and tires fit to my 56 Caddy? On the Caddy are good but old L78-15 tires and the German car testing authority TUEV was not happy with them at all. Just to pass the test I would switch the car's tires. On the Roady I have P225/75R15 tires. The L78 -15 should be P235/75R15. A little smaller should not matter I guess. The TUEV guy was saying that the L78 looks too big in the wheel house and he is right with that. But they look great. The spare rim seems to have 5 wholes and I guess at that time the rims were interchangeable at GM or is that naive? Of course I could have a look but I am currently 200 miles away from my garage. Any idea? Thanks, Hans
  2. Hi guys, great idea this thing. I joined the forum last year when I bought my 1953 Buick Roadmaster Riviera in Florida and got it shipped over the Atlantic to Germany. I was so excited for months and months that I had to wait before it finally arrived. What a moment when I saw it the very first time! You know Buick is not a well recognised brand in Germany. Most of the car collectors here like Mercedes or a Porsche, and 90% of the people do not even spell Buick correctly. I really do not know how I got the Buick bug, but I got it! I love my Roadmaster, the whole car, its fantastic name and its presence and character. It really impresses me every day. In 1953 the VW bug with something like 24 hp was the standard here. The Roady is real Americana and I am really proud to own such a beautiful car. But I have to say I have other non-Buick cars as well in my stable. And I bought a 1956 Cadillac Coupe de Ville in white and sonic blue just two weeks ago from a Dutch guy in Cologne! Not even 5 miles away from me! The car is nearly fully loaded and even has the optional Eldorado engine with 2 four barel carburettors. Wonderful car! But the Roady is still my favorite, no doubt. Great forum here with nice and friendly people! Hello everybody from good old Frankfurt! Yeahhhhh! Best, Hans
  3. Hi Steve, thanks for the quick answer. Could you send me as many high resolution pictures of the car as possible, please? What are the goodies and what is the bad about it or let us say what are the worst parts of the car. What has been done on the car that can be proven? Engine, tranny, brakes, electricals, gauges, everything works fine? I assume there are no rust issues, but was it welded underneath, fenders, rockers, trunk etc.? How are paint, chrome, stainless on a scale of 1-10? Who had worked on the car? Amateur or professionals? Anything of that provable by receipts? How is the car in your possession? Was the car striped prior to the new paint job? Is it your car? Or are you selling for somebody else? Oil leaks are not major and you fix that, good to read. Is anybody there on the AACA forum who knows you or the car and could give me a 2nd opinion? What is known about the history of the car? Hope you do not mind about all these questions. Please could you send the pictures to hans.henniges@web.de . Thanks so much! Best, Hans
  4. Hi there! What a wonderful car! Fantastic color combo. A little cheaper and I would buy it and ship it to Europe. Really impressive car. I wonder that you are selling a 1957 special as well. Is this 1948 Sedanette as good as it looks. Please give me some details. Thanks a lot. Best, Hans
  5. The corvair as convertible again? San Gabriel sounds like a sunny place! Isn't that car the 'unsafe at any speed' thing?
  6. No idea what this ment, had to check on leo.org - our online dictionary here in Germany, but it sounded great on the spot. Understand the meaning now. Thanks a lot!!!!! I am really happy that I got your comment and so many other nice ones here, too. Feels here a bit like family....
  7. What a tragedy! Such a nice and expensive car! How was it to drive or to be driven in such a car? I guess it was spectacular. But this light blue is a fantastic color. I really like it. Just a few weeks ago I have seen a 1953 Buick Skylark in Frankfurt for sale in #1 condition for EUR 150000 in such a light blue metallic, amazing automobile. I was so surprsied and stunned. What a presence and flair this car expressed! It was not sold and returned to the owner. Needless to say I took 1000s of pictures.... Do you recall which kind of car your dad bought next? Keen to understand brand loyalty in that days.
  8. What was the outside color? Red leather sounds real nice. In that days this kind of car must have been a head turner. I love on my Buick the soft bench seats and the huge banjo steering wheel and the dash board with the middle section where all these heavy knobs are. Love to take out the cigar lighter, which has ten times the weight of a modern one and your hand just moves down a little when taking it due to that weight. I cannot express in my creepy English how much I love it!!!!! All of your cars in the 40s and 50 s have so much style, unbelievable!
  9. It is a pleasure! No, these pics are from last year. But currently we have 8 °C and it is as sunny as it can be. There is not a single cloud anywhere. Today is carnival in Cologne, just the perfect weather for such an event. Cheers! In an hour or so I put my gorilla costume over. No pics of myself.
  10. Dear all, thanks for your nice comments! Appreciate all of them. That is the great thing about this forum, you can share your excitement and passion with others and they get the point and share the fun. Here is my favorite picture of the car, had it on another computer. Best, Hans
  11. Dear all, my name is Hans and I am from Frankfurt in Germany. I am following your forum for quite a while but never introduced myself properly. Sorry for that! Did I ever show you my very first Buick? Bought last year on ebay. I just had to!!! The auction ended at 1 or 2 am (!), my alarm clock took me out of my dreams, I put my maximum bid in and I finally got it. Believe it or not, the rest of the night I spent being happy and blaming myself! I did not get a single second of sleep! I was just too excited and blamed myself for having done this crazy thing of buying a car sight unseen. Not a modern car, but a 60 years old one. How stupid can you be to do that!?!? Luckily the seller was a nice guy in Florida and a few months later the car was in Europe. When I went to Rotterdam to pick it up, it was absolutely fantastic when it started on the spot and the engine run smoothly, even all four hydrolectric windows worked and the bench seat moved! Of course, it was not as nice as I had hoped it would be, but it is very presentable car and I simply love it. For me the most beautiful car ever built on the planet! Its lines, the color combo, the magnificent 188 HP engine, all the "extras" it already had in 1953, power steering, power brakes, power windows, even air condition - simply unbelievable!!! And its mine! Best regards, Hans
  12. Asking price was around 15000-16000 USD, if I remember correctly. Very fair price for such a beauty considering its rarity. Good 1st generation Rvieras, especially Roadmasters, are not that often on the market. Beest regards, Hans
  13. Dear all, unfortunately I missed out the 1952 Buick Roadmaster Riviera which was posted here and is already sold now. I cried one night, but life goes on. It is so unlickely as a million dollar lottery jackpot, but I want to check with you guys here if there is anybody out there who might want to get rid of a 1949-1952 Buick Super or Roadmaster Riviera. I just love these Buick hardtop coupes. A car in driver condition would be just fine for me. And the car should be more or less complete, as here in Germany it is nearly impossible to get parts. Anybody out there ready to split with his car??? Thanks everybody, Hans
  14. Hi all, I checked with the very friendly owner, the car has been sold to Maine during the last weekend. This one is gone..... Best regards, Hans
  15. Hi there, I am looking for the chrome part extension of the grille mustache onto the right fender, part number is 1346808, the complete windshield washer bottle with pump, from the wipers the escutcheons at the base of the wipers on the hood, a non cracked steering wheel, good ventiports, the chrome centre bar on top of the rear bumper, a radio in running order and a clock, the license plate holder on the front bumper and the very right tooth of the grill. Any of these available? Thanks for looking!!! Best, Hans
  16. Hi, I would be very interested to learn if there are still parts available like trunk ornament, right extension of the hood bar onto the fender, portholes, bumpers, 'dagmars', instruments as well. I just bought a '53 Roadmaster HT and need plenty of parts. Thanks a lot! Regards, Hans
