  1. For Sale: 1939 Hudson Pacemaker Six Model 91 4dr Sedan - Project - $3,000 - Butler, PA 1939 Hudson Sedan - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive sale (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: I have a 1939 Hudson sedan for sale. I bought this car to restore and I had a collision with my other '39. I removed the fenders, hood and side panels and swapped them. I do have a picture posted in the original condition. This car has not been in an accident that I know of. The fenders on it now only have a couple of bolts holding them on. The engine in this is a 1940 or later and has a three-speed transmission. Other than the engine, this car is totally. original. This car is in reasonable condition with a fairly nice interior and a good headliner. It is not a parts car but became a donor. I have an extra left front fender, gas tank and a couple of boxes that goes with it. It includes two sets of the original taillights, sealed beam headlight rings and other trinkets. I will consider all reasonable offers. Contact: no phone listed. 3. Both factory and dealer-installed spotlights are in the options lists for virtually every model year of every make in those decades...they must have made good money off them...
  4. A terrible, sad loss of a good man. I enjoyed his post which revealed his wit and optimism. His sharing his journey from unfortunate accident through repair of his cherished 1938 Studebaker the old-fashioned way with dolly, hammer, pick and file as was done years ago was truly special. Fortuitously, he undertook driving his Studebaker to Hershey last fall to participate in the DPC Class. It was there that I happened to meet him and have a brief conversation, commending him on his work and expressed my appreciation for his sharing with us. Truly, a good man for all seasons and a loss for humanity now, but richer for his life having been lived. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
  5. I suspect what appears to be white is actually the very light gray Chrysler offered which looks washed-out under the bright sunshine. What is remarkable is if the blue broadcloth upholstery and that fragile plastic trim are factory original, this New Yorker had exceptional care throughout its life. If it were a '41 New Yorker Highlander town sedan with the blue-green tartan plaid it would be even more desirable and appropriately priced.
  6. John: You're welcome! I immediately liked the downsized 1977 GM Full-sized cars when they appeared. The GM downsized designs were much more successful than the follow-up Ford Panther platform or Mopar platform equivalents, though they had their moments. The Oldsmobile 98 got even more attractive with the 1980 re-style which included formal C-Pillar roof, fender skirts and details that evoked the 1960's 98's. Of this Olds 98, I'd say it's a scream deal if its checks out to be functionally as good as it looks. Even disregarding its 'collectible' status, for a daily driver at a reasonable price, this would be difficult to match. I think the 98 engine was the 403 ci V8, but I haven't the spec's at hand. Steve

  13. For Sale: 1966 Lincoln Continental 2dr Coupe, 72K miles - $17,500 - Albuquerque, NM 1966 Lincoln Continental 2-Door Coupe - cars & trucks - by owner -... (craigslist.org) Seller's Description: 1966 Lincoln Continental 2-Door CoupeHistory:In production for over 55 years across nine different decades, Lincoln has produced ten generations of Continental. Within the Lincoln model line, the Continental has served several roles ranging from its flagship to its base-trim sedan. From 1961 to 1976, Lincoln sold the Continental as its exclusive model line. The Coupe was the Continental’s first two-door hardtop since 1960. Although similar in appearance to its sedan counterpart, the Coupe featured true, partial B-pillar hardtop construction and a unique roof stamping. Major design elements of the 1966 Lincoln Continental’s all new front end were the die-cast grille with nine thin horizontal bars; flush mounted headlamps; the grill opening panel’s bold power dome with individual block letter identification; angled back fender blades and a center relived bumper which incorporated the parking lamps and whose ends created a sled runner effect by extending along the lower fender edges to the wheel cuts. The 1966 Lincoln Continental’s rear end appearance was decidedly different than that of its predecessors. Its central element was the bumper, whose ends had been redesigned to wrap around while the carryover center section now integrated wide horizontal taillamps. A subtle change was made to the top surface finish of the body side blade moldings this year – it was now brushed rather than bright.Engine Specs:8 cylinder, 462 cubic inch displacement340 hp 4bblCurb Weight: 4985 lbs.Wheel Base: 126 in.1966 production run totaled 15,766. 14. This is the 1932-only upper series Rockne, the Model 75, 114" wb, 205 ci L-head six-cylinder engine. When the Rockne was folded into the main Studebaker operation during 1933, the engine continued for the 1934 Dictator Six. It was enlarged become first the 1936-'37 Dictator 218 ci, then 226 ci Commander engine for 1938-'42 & 1947-'48, then 245.6 for 1949-'50 Commanders and finally retained for their trucks through 1960. Studebaker got a lot of use out of that engine tooling!
  15. The genuine Speedsters have bolted tie-bars on the wheel snap rings.
  16. This is represented to be one of the 70 1929 Model 626 Speedster Eights which were equipped with the larger 385 ci Custom Eight 640/Deluxe Eight 645 engine and a 633 Runabout body to the 126.5" wb Standard Eight 626 chassis. It was the predecessor to the 1930 Speedster Eight 734.
  17. Virgil Exner, director of Chrysler styling, emphasized the importance of trim patterns and bold color combinations offered on his Forward Look cars to enhance their sales appeal. The 1956 DeSotos are one of the best examples of how affective that was.

  21. From the Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1805-1942, edited by Kimes and Clark, Third Edition, page 1156: "Beginning production with four-cylinder cars, Pathfinder proceeded into sixes with vee radiators, and in 1916 introduced a model powered by a Weidely 12-cylinder engine that was called "Pathfinder the Great, King of Twelves". With the last named, Pathfinder advertising, which had always tended to the haughty, became positively snobbish; "The Family equipage is as true an index of culture and taste as the home itself," the catalog read. "When Pathfinder the Great rules the garage the family is usually well worth knowing." Haughty indeed, for a carmaker to be defunct by the end of that year. Material shortages because of World War I demands were cited for the Pathfinder operations being "severely handicapped." and going under by year's end. Interestingly, their 1916-'17 Pathfinder Twelve seven passenger touring were called the "LaSalle Touring". I would like to know what coachbuilders supplied Pathfinders with bodies.
  22. Low production to start, low survival rate now. The N.A.D.A Used Car Guide for July 1955 list the retail for a factory priced $4,234 1951 Lincoln Cosmopolitan convertible at $930. By October 1958, the average retail price was $240. For comparison, the $3,987 1951 Cadillac 62 convertible was $1,875 in 1955 and still retail $650 in 1958. One could probably count all the restored 1949-1951 Lincoln Cosmopolitan convertibles that have been restored on two hands...still have a few fingers left over.
  23. Alan: The vehicle number 252838 falls in the 1929 Sixth Series, Standard Eights, Models 626 and 633, which range from 233017 to 276166. Within those comprised 26,070 Model 626 on 126.5" wb: a sedan 5-passenger, a coupe 2/4-passenger and a convertible coupe 2/4-passenger. The rear deck shape tells us it was one of the latter two. The Model 633, of which 17,060 were built in seven body styles, included only one coupe 4-passenger which was the style where all passengers were seated inside. Most often referred to as a victoria coupe or club coupe, the deck was much shorter than the remnant see here. There was also a 633 Runabout 2/4-passenger roadster but the sheel metal shapes don't match the style. Steve
  24. John: Folks got the pleasure to "slip and slide with Powerglide" for 1950. It was introduced as a $159 option on Deluxe Series 2100 HK. The Bel Air two door hardtop join that year as well, became immediately popular. Steve
