  1. my yellow Chrysler convertible is spongebob. we do a display of the characters from the cartoon and the kids love it. if I can find cheap spongebob things I give them away to the fans. skyler
  2. these units are on ebay often. many salvage yards have them.not sure of cost or how much to have yours rebuilt. a few calls or emails can get you that info. perhaps hemmings has a rebuilder listed. skyler
  3. my second post got a response. thanks. I do think that a simple thanks for the reply is not too much to ask. I am a little sensitive on this post as 54 Chryslers are my passion in this hobby. I wanted to help this guy more than he wanted the help. still will help him with anything I can. he asks about a fair price for this car and that cannot be answered without more info, and even then it is tough to give a close estimate without seeing the car in person. with the work this car will need I would not pay very much. I sold a good running one 2 years ago for $3900. fair price for that car. it was a great driver, not a show car at all. skyler
  4. I am sorry I answered this. why do people post for help or advice and then ignore the answer that someone takes the effort to reply with? skyler
  5. these are great cars. I currently own a 1954 Windsor and have owned several 54 Chryslers over the years.the 331 hemi is not the desirable one, often called the baby hemi. very expensive to rebuild if it needs it. if it is fairly low mileage and running good you are way ahead, and if the deluxe model it has the 4 bbl and is 235 hp, one of the most powerful of it's day. a good engine. this car will cost way more than it will ever be worth to restoreso it just depends on how much you love the car. they are not all that rare, but when is the last time you saw one at a show, or any where else? build sheet is available through the walter p Chrysler club.i happen to know a lot about these 54 Chryslers, so I can answer many questions if you need me. also have many manuals. skyler
  6. rebuilder was not booster dewey. not needed anyway as he has manual brakes. one problem with the power setup in these cars is if the diaphragm in the booster develops a vacuum leak, it will suck all the brake fluid out of the system, no more brakes. ask me how I know this. the Chrysler engineers were not thinking well when they designed this system. skyler
  7. Torry, try posting this in technical. maybe you will get some help. wish I knew more on this subject. skyler
  8. have you contacted the rebuilder? it should have some kind of warranty.did the same company do both rebuilds?that trans. has a reputation for being reliable and strong. anyway, the rebuilder should be helping you. skyler
  9. I did not know the cover plate was spot welded. I always removed the booster from under the car, just knew there was a cover plate under the front seat. it took me a little more than an hour, but certainly a very doable job. I will try to find the company that rebuilt mine, but that was about 12 years ago. someone out west, maybe in calif.. skyler
  10. there is a cover plate under the front seat for the booster. if the front seat is out the booster can be easily removed. I have removed them from underneath, but you will have bloody knuckles doing it. I found a place out west that rebuilds them. I think I can find their address if you need it. my Windsor has the booster bypassed. brakes work just like manual brakes. skyler
  11. I have a 54 Windsor, the gas guage does not work. I will try the check up that c49er says. your choice of a 54 Chrysler is awesome as these cars are not very popular in the collector car arena. I am a fan of these particular cars and have owned them since I was 17 years old in 1966. my current Windsor is a convertible. the 265 flat head will, at best, get about 14 mpg. good luck with your car. you will often be the only Chrysler at a show, and always the only 54 model. skyler

    bad vibrations

thanks for the replies. the tires are 8 or 9 years old, and I have had them balanced. I tried moving the spare all around the car and it made no difference. I will try putting the car in neutral at the speed where it is vibrating.i suppose new shocks can't hurt. hate to replace the original oriflow ones with Chinese stuff. I will check the wires with the pencil. I have been thinking of putting my original rims back on anyway, so that may do it as the wires are original from a 1955 Chrysler. thanks again for the suggestions. skyler
  13. 1954 Chrysler Windsor convertible. vibration starts at 40 and then around 55 gets bad, then at 65 tends to smooth out. I checked universals and they seem good.cna't find new ones for this car anyway. I took them off car and they feel and look good. this problem started about a year ago. I have a set of 1955 Chrysler wires on the car and I think I might put the old rims back on, balance the tires and see what happens. I have been told the vibration dampener could be bad, but how do you check it? the vibration just seems to be in the whole car and not shaking the steering wheel as in a bad front end part. original shocks maybe? anyway, any suggestions will be very much appreciated. skyler
  14. I stopped collecting everything as it all takes up too much room and seems like the things I collected never had any value. used to collect old radios, but now have the two left that mean something to me. I am a fisherman, collected many rods and reels. got rid of most of them, but somehow the 5 or 6 I had left are now over a dozen again. I had a lot of old cameras but most got sold at a garage sale. now I still have one of this or one of that, but I avoid collecting. I see many estate auctions that sell someones lifelong collections and it seems to me they should have sold most of their stuff themselves and after they had enjoyed their collection they could now enjoy the money in any way they choose.problem is, they might just start collecting again. collectively yours, skyler
  15. as usual, as soon as I answer in a thread that is the end of the thread. sorry I ruined your discussion, it is a beautiful and rare car when done. capt den
  16. a sleeping beauty. I wish I had the energy to take on a project like this. be very careful with the top frame as that would be very difficult to replace. keep the pictures coming. capt den
  17. I have a 1954 Windsor convertible. the car has a power booster which is currently disconnected. the standard brakes work very well. many people do not set the brakes up properly when doing a brake job and then do not keep them adjusted over time. the rears get forgotten because you need to jack up both sides of the car to adjust brakes. some day I will get the booster rebuilt. capt den
  18. I have a 1954 Chrysler convertible. it is all original like your chevy. I currently do not have the funds to restore, so I drive it as is.gets a lot of attention when I am out and about by myself, but gets passed by a lot at the shows. most people say to leave it as is. today is a good day to drive it. I did go to a fathers day show, the blueberry festival in Burgaw, NC.
  19. I will try then and now again, and northwest. I took the driveshaft to a truck guy, but he is just wasting my time. I will put the driveshaft back on the car and keep looking. thanks for the replies. capt den
  20. Vin, I have the cross style. the car is for driving. capt den
  21. I need 2 universal joints for a 1954 Chrysler Windsor.roberts and bernbaum do not have.then and now never called me back. AMS obsolete has them but VERY expensive. perhaps a forum member can help with a more reasonable source. I will end up with AMS but money is a criteria at this point. I will still need to get them pressed and driveshaft balanced. I am in Wilmington, NC, but no local source found yet. thanks in advance for any leads. capt den
  22. the original Arthur gould operated out of his basement in his house in kings park, long island. I do not recall the exact year he sold it but the new owners are in a shop in the town of kings park. Arthur did good work . the last pump I had done by the new owners seemed to be alright but I found out it was not doing a good a good job of moving water at idle and was making a squeaking noise it did not make before the rebuild. I called them and they were eager for me to bring it back so they can look at it. I am in north carolina now, but will be up in NY this july. I believe they are a good shop and perhaps this pump is just tired. the pump was in the car about 7 years, but I was never happy with it. I will keep this site posted as to the outcome. the time on the car is not all that relevant as we do not put much mileage on our cars. I eventually bought a new cardone pump and it does a better job. I did lose the look of the original, as well as the original itself. my car is all original in every respect possible. it is a 1954 Chrysler Windsor deluxe convertible, 265 flathead, automatic. I drove the car to NC from NY when I moved in 2008, so the pump works, just not doing as good a job as the new one. with all that said, I would still recommend gould as a rebuilder. capt den
  23. I get group 2 batteries at batteries plus, about $80.00.not sure what difference a group one is. maybe just different measurement to fit where yours is. what kind of air cleaner is that? skyler
  24. Tom, is your 54 a Chrysler? I have a 54 Windsor deluxe convertible. your profile says this is your first project car, so if a Chrysler I have all the manuals if you need any info. I can't help with the wiring but I can say that I have heard good things about rhode is. wiring company. skyler
  25. yes, they can be fully rebuilt. there are alternators now that are built to look just like your old generator, fairly expensive but a good choice if you want it and will pay the price. the original gen. and regulator work very well as set up originally. dennis
