I don't guess any of us are surprised. Someone got a nice car if the wood is sound.

Thanks Mark and Bloo, I appreciate your thoughts. Also, thanks, Bloo, for the details. That was interesting. It sure looks like a very nice car.

I heard from the seller. She says the car is all original except for the tires and battery. She says it has a 350 Buick V8 in it. Does that compute?

Don't think it's Bugatti, but Jaguar.
I was thinking Amana or Frigidaire maybe.

Great styling, interesting grill. Good price, maybe.
It’d be worth a call to find out why it can only be driven on a trailer.
Yeah great looking grille.

I wrote to seller to ask about miles. I'll post answer.

Looks promising.

Would anyone care to speculate on the source of the grille surround?

1946 Oldsmobile - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive sale (craigslist.org)
1946 Oldsmobile 1946 Oldsmobile it runs, has clean title, needs work. Great project car!

Looking at the first picture, it appears to me that they've actually managed to change the angle of the way the headlight is mounted. Doesn't it appear that it's aimed slightly off to the outside?
-
How often do they come up with overdrives? That's the real question. An overdrive means the difference between driving the car around the neighborhood occasionally and loading the family up and going for a comfortable Sunday drive at freeway speed. The transmissions alone sell for over a thousand dollars.

Wonder if the engine might actually be a 360 V8, meaning the 306 reference is a typo? I'm thinking the 360 V8 was first released in the early 1970s, which might explain the floor shifted automatic transmission...
Just pondering out loud...
Informed speculation is always welcome!

This poor DeSoto is so grungy looking that it's hard to imagine what it is supposed to look like. Here's a nice one from Google Images:

"never refurbished". Well, I'm glad they got that straight.

This car is a 1928 GE Dictator 1st Series and is a nice older restoration. Not a 20 thousand mile original car. Seller states only missing one door handle, however, there is a few other parts missing (ignition switch, rear door ashtray, and Atalanta radiator cap) and parts that are chromed that should be painted. I think the car is a little over priced.
That's a nice detailed critique, Mark. It's always nice to hear from people who know their stuff.

Nice car, guy is on the HAMB regularly, maybe someone with a project A in a sportier bodystyle coukd possibly trade him straight across and end up with a cool car.
Glad he is not cutting this one up..
Agreed!

I know from my years in the apparel business that it's easy to overlook the color taupe, but match it to a crisp black and you've got a beautiful classic look.

Black car, blackwalls, trim rings: great look. Great price, too.
My dream car (at the moment) is a '38 Buick Century with the same setup.
Oldsmobiles, like others of this era, probably came with "sunburst" painted designs on the wheels. Those probably served to date cars quickly and were painted over by used car lots. I can't say that I always like them in all cases, but this one could use something similar.

I suppose that someone could argue that the deep gold color goes well with the wood, but I wouldn't favor it. There were so many other colors in the Packard catalog to choose from, I'm sure.
-
The seller neglected to include a photo from the front. I've always liked the lean look of their radiators/shells. Here's one from Google Images:

It looks to be in wonderful shape, especially if it has 83,494 miles on it. Sadly, New Hampshire may as well be on a different planet.

Do any of you guys live anywhere near Warsaw, NY?

Surprisingly, this is an original color. It's called "Everglades Red". There are several examples of it on "Google Images."

I don't know, but I imagine that the air conditioner could be rebuilt and updated. Any thoughts?
