Any thoughts on why the platform in the rear is arched upward? I must be missing something as I don't see it as being relevant for flowers even.

In cases like this I often wonder if the owner didn't defer to his wife's tastes just to keep her on board with the project.

I'm usually predisposed to orphans, but for some reason I've never been able to warm much to these. It's unfortunate that they were not able to make a go of it. We would have all benefited from the extra competition in the industry.

I used to live in a small town in the mountains. There was a mortuary, but with the small population, it wasn't a full time job, so the mortician also worked in the meat department at Safeway. He rented out the large garage at the back of his space to a mechanic, and that guy used to chase parts in the hearse. The bed in this vehicle would be pretty handy at Home Depot.
That sent a shiver down my spine!

I don't think that this one had rear doors, though most of the later ones do. Sometimes they look like remnants from a remodeled sedan. Also, I think it looks like that roof came on a coupe originally and not something made for this body. I'm sure glad that it survived intact for all of these years.

Absolutely beautiful car, neat as a pin, but if you don't own a funeral home, what do you do with it? Kind of like a fire truck, neat to look at, but what do you do with it? Just an opinion. $140K??
Yeah, we probably all agree with you on that point. A real treat to peruse! It's actually so out of proportion that it wouldn't look any better if it was rodded, either. I think I see a seam in the running board.

I see the "Dessert Sand" on the chip chart, but am I missing the "rose" colored upper? I'm a little surprised at how much I like this combo.

I came across this '40 Ford flower car on Facebook and while the asking price is pretty ridiculous, it's still so interesting that I thought that a couple of you would like to see it:

Yes coupes have grown on me. There are just so many options to collect in this hobby. I have always loved the 64-66 Imperials. I would have perhaps a coupe and a LeBaron.
The LeBaron as we know was meant to compete with the Cadillac Fleetwood and it shows in the details. That is why I want a LeBaron. Or get a LeBaron and a Fleetwood in the same year. Just so many options in this hobby.
Yes, it boggles the mind, doesn't it?

I prefer the LeBaron. The coupe always looked truncated but I am not going to quibble for $9,000 or so it should take to buy this one.
I think that you are correct about it being a little truncated. Maybe the quite short quarter window contrasts a bit too much with the quite long quarter panel. It's perhaps somewhat disproportionate, but I like it, nevertheless.

I think that the driver's seat could be reinforced from below. You would have to take it out to do it right. Someone with a substantial weight has owned this car, for sure. I don't usually like colors of this nature, but the addition of a slightly contrasting roof color is a classy touch.

Google Images shows a couple of '28s (perhaps really '29s) and several '29s:

Does the driver look a little bit like FDR?

These folks are also selling a '48 Hudson that is listed here for a third party.

I don't know how serious the guy can be. There's no link to additional pictures and not even a list of the "restored" stuff.

I think that '30 2 door sedans are likely the most common of all of the models/years. You deserve better, I'm positive.

There's a "bug-eyed" '38 Plymouth in the background of the first picture.

I've seen a couple of Hudsons of this era with the red body and black roof. They didn't look any better.
-
One of the drivers, Marshall Teague, maybe(?), who had great sucess racing Hudsons in Nascar in the early 50s was encouraged to try out the new version for '55. He drove one lap around the track, parked it and walked away shaking his head.

Looks like a pretty good buy. I always thought the front end on the '39-41 Olds looked kinda goofy with the headlight placement.
Yes, and add to that the highly glorified parking light with it's own embelishment molding.

I don't care so much for the white walls, but it really is a beauty otherwise.

That's that pretty Sardonyx color again. This time with white.

Well, I suppose that the roof could be an explanation. Thanks for your thoughts.
