Wow! It's obviously an extremely nice car, but just looking online you can see the door lines are not perfect, and the description says the driver seat shows some wear. I would expect it to be perfect at any price close to that. As they say though, you only need 2 that really want it.
I think it's the same place as my '39. Mine was on the top of the passenger side rail where it goes up to clear the rear axle. Mine was poorly stamped and without knowing what it was from the tag on the front of the frame it would not have been readable really. The tag was on the same rail, visible from looking under the hood.
Can we confirm that leather was an option in the USA on a '39 Special? Only Coupes? Seems like I heard that was one of the quirks about the US cars vs. others.
My favorite Christmas movie, A Christmas Story, all incorrect era vehicles aside, I loved the rusty old 20's cabs laying all around the neighborhood, but something about changing the tire on a 30's car in the snow just sounds fun to me.
Got it running today! Here is the first extended run video, we adjusted a few things and it starts right up and idles nice and slow now. Just needs some minor tweaking to be perfect. With all the brand new stuff warming up for the first time, we set off the smoke alarm
Thanks Danny, yes there will be video! My father has built many engines and they all start right up everytime the first time. I hope his success continues. I keep thinking of things to double check and he just says "don't worry, it will run fine." I see what you are saying about the radiator. Basically the only things holding it on right now is the upper hose and the one bolt in the bottom. Will proceed with caution.
We're gonna try to start our car Sunday for the first time. We have a combo 6V/12V cranking power/charger that should crank it, if not we'll see. I am trying to avoid buying another 6V battery other than the OEM-style one. We don't want to put the good one into commission until we're actually close to driving it. It would just sit there and go bad over time before we even get the car done.
Yes, wonder why he is selling after seeming excited about his new car in July, or is this just an old ad from where he bought it? Here is the thread: http://forums.aaca.org/f165/introduction-now-car-333399.html
With what 90's cars go for on all the auction site and on TV, I can't see any '99 Firebird Convertible with more than 100 miles on it being with $10,000. I don't see the color adding any value, even if only 4 "blue" ones were made.
