  1. I would like to invite all of you to attend the estate sale of Jack Passey. We have slowly been selling off parts and tools since jack passed away last august. We must clear out the remaining parts. Anyone in the bay area of california is welcome. It is going to be on april 30th starting at 8am. The address is 425 Hecker Pass (highway 152) in watsonville. The driveway is a little hard to find. It is at the top end of a pull out on the west side of the highway about one mile up from the bottom of the hill. There will be a sign. Drive down towards the house, keep left and go to the barn.
  2. I have thought about having a side business doing this as well. There are many older cars with interiors that are dry and cracking that just need some repair work, not replacement. There is a system from http://www.leatherique.com/ that is made for restoring leather. They have a cleaner, a rejuvinator, a crack filler, stripper and dyes that you can probably buy as a kit. I really want to try it on my current car but I am so afraid of making it worse.
  3. I have a small collection of Lexington Sales brochures. I dont think they are that useful for mechanical knowledge, but they have some good pictures. I dont know if that would be something of interest to you.
  4. Matt basically hit the nail on the head with his comment. This is the fine line that I am riding now - undercharging with the lights on or over charging with the lights off. I tend to run with the lights on usually because it keeps the amp output on the gauge down in the 10-12 area. I have two of these same cars and that has been my habit on both. But, there is nothing worse than driving for two hours with your lights on only to find that the battery has been discharging the whole time and that it wont start again. So, usually I drive with the lights on quite a bit, but not all the time- unless its dark! Also, sometimes I run the car in the driveway with the lights off before parking it to just top up the battery if is is low.
  5. Thanks all. Its true, I do not have a voltage regulator. As Matt suggests, the battery is in some capacity the "regulator" in this circuit. I went out and bought a lead acid 6 volt battery and shoot dang the thing is now putting out 7.6 volts. As some of you also suggested, I did take the cover off and clean the brushes and commutator. I drove the car around for an hour with the lights on and they are all still working. I turned the amp output adjustment back up a little. The factory manual suggests 10-14. I think I have it set so that it peaks at 15 amps. So, more field tests (running modern cars off the road) are required.
  6. I do have an optima red top in the car but my friend runs the same cars with optimas and has no trouble. I may just be unlucky. I have a lead acid battery, I will switch it out. I doubt that I have any wires burned that are disconnected as its an original car and I have not messed with it, this problem just sort of started suddenly. Ill look though.
  7. All, I have a 1930 car with a starter/generator and it keeps popping all the light bulbs. I replaced them all and they lasted about an hour. The unit was putting out about 20 amps and has an adjustment for amp output. I moved it down to around 10-12 which is about where the manual suggests I put it. I am still making 8.8 volts. What determines the output voltage of a generator and can I adjust it? Thanks.
  8. I have listed a parts manual for Franklin series 10 on ebay. I think it applies to 1922-1923. Great book to have. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131747552598?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 thanks for looking
  9. This is the same thing I am facing at the estate I am helping with. There are some packard parts, but I would not know if if I was looking at the part you need. I know Model L lincoln, but not packard. There is a hood for sure and many rear ends, some for sure packard. Cant tell you what they are from though. Probably earlier.
  10. If I wanted a two tone car, I would look through some factory sales literature and choose a color combination that was offered by the factory. They had some wonderful color schemes and the paint color choices suited the car. I will add that cadillacs were not built to be hot rods. They are (or at least were at some point) cars of elegance. Red wheels and beauty rings do not fit the character of the car or its design purpose. Anyone can do as they wish with their car, but I advise that people not try to make their cars into something that they aren't.
  11. All, I am searching for any of these old tools. They are made by Hinckley Myers or Michigan Saw and file. They will probably all say Ford on them somehwere, but maybe just the part number I have it on a spread sheet with descriptions if anyone is really bored and wants to look through their old tools. 11z-119 12z-637 16x-45582 16z-20554 16z-20759 16z-21141 16Z-21188 16z-21189 16Z-21190 16z-21209 16z-27367 16z-40722 16z-40723 16z-40723 16z-41819 16z-43108A 16z-43108B 16z-49117 20z-464 24z-11139 24z-13535 36z-210 36z-504 39z-991 56z-679 5z-1210 5z-1219 5z-1220 5z-1258 5z-1269 5z-1288 5z-1385 5z-1446 5z-1646 5z-1669 5z-1670 5z-1671 5z-1672 5z-1692 5z-177 5z-1840 5z-1841 5z-1846 5z-1854 5z-1855 5z-1856 5z-2008 5z-2402 5z-2403 5z-504 5z-649 5z-650 5z-651 5z-653 5z-654 5z-655 5z-801 5z-811 5z-812 5z-813 5z-868 5z-869 5z-870 5z-872 5z-873 5z-874 5z-875 5z-876 5z-877 5z-878 5z-880 5z-881 5z-882 5z-883 5z-884 5z-886 5z-889 5z-890 5z-891 5z-892 5z-893 5z-894 5z-895 5z-924 5z-980 5z-994
  12. I have a grille badge bar for v12 listed on ebay. Its pitted some, but not broken. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131710724019?item=131710724019&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
  13. All, I understand there is someone who makes cases that replace the old metal purolator cartridges that mount to the firewall of 1930s ear cars. These cases hold modern filter elements. I have found Bobs automobilia, but I wanted to know if anyone else makes one. My car is not a buick and the units they offer dont really look anything like whats on my firewall.
  14. This is a very special book. I dont know how many exist. If it was a Lincoln book (I have lincolns) there is no way anyone could pry it out of my cold dead hands. However, I dont have a cadillac and this needs to be in a cadillac library. this book covers all cadillac and la salle vehicles effective august 10 1932 It is heavily annotated by the dealership in texas where it came from. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131705600440?item=131705600440&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
  15. I have listed a tail light lens on ebay for 1928 buick: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131705514682?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  16. I have listed a cowl light that I believe fits 1928 cadillac. I think it is the drivers side. Good restorable unit. Needs plating. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131705506038?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  17. I have listed a radiator emblem for wills sainte claire on ebay. It may be a reproduction, you will have to decide. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131705500477?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  18. These should fit 1932 and perhaps other years. They look restored and are in good shape. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131704739048?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  19. On ebay: Horseless carriage mirror from restoration supply. Less than half cost of new one. Neve installed http://www.ebay.com/itm/131704693934?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  20. Good for parts I hope, pretty beat up.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131704728018?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  21. Here is a rare item- this is the glass lens from a tail light on a Diana automobile. It is not chipped or cracked. There is some tape stuck to the back. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131700952149?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  22. I have listed a pair of New Old Stock 1926 Nevada license plates. These almost look too good to be true, I dont know if nevada ever reissued old plates. They are so nice that I am suspicious. Take a look if you want at let me know what you think. I have not checked to see if the number is clear with the motor vehicles department. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131700945010?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  23. I have listed a tail light bezel on ebay that will fit some late 1920s or early 1920s chrysler. The bezel is in decent shape, but the two large lenses are chipped around the edges. They will fit in their homes and the chipping is not all that noticeable when they are installed, so this would be a good back up for a driver. The center beehive lense is fine. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131700130022?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 Thanks for looking
