  1. Ok, Friday went for coffee to my friends house about 8 miles from my house. The heat gauge never got to 160 deg. Same way on the way home. This morning went to breakfast with the coffee gang 16 miles round trip. Looked at the outside temp on the in side, ,out side thermometer wow, 90 deg out.Car temp under 160 on the trip. After thinking about the 1931 Model S chassis I remembered that the engine splash pans had louvers in them.I think the Hupp engineer's had an idea to let the hot air out of the engine compartment via these louvers. I am going to either louver the one on the 1929 Hupp A or install the ones off the Model s. See pic.
  2. Thank you for sharing the fine pic and information on this fine Hupmobile. Here is a pic of another Hupp racer. A Hupp Club member owns this car and he lives in South Africa. He gave me this pic at Hershey 2015
  3. Here is a pic of a 1923 Willy's Knight steering wheel of the car that I sold to a guy in FL. Its very close to whats on your speedster.
  4. Looks like my 1923 Willys Knight wood wheel, I tried to find a pic but they are all up north. The levers and metal part are very close and could be the same.
  5. Talked with my friend yesterday and he is thinking of having the Model S upholstery done over and some chrome plating done. He said that he is going to keep the S no trade. After I have fixed the over heat problem with the A, I will go to some Fl shows and hopefully sell it. Then I will be able to finish the 1926 Ajax.
  6. Back to the Hupp First, my friend thought that may be that the fan belt may be slipping. Got a new fan belt. I kept looking at the fan and thought that the pitch was not very aggressive. It just so happened that I have another Hupp here. Its a 1931 Hupp model S. Checking the fan showed me that the pitch was more aggressive. Installed it on the 1929 A. Ran it at idle for 20 min. Temp was 80 deg. out side temp. The gage went to 158 Deg. in side the car. Will take it for a ride tomorrow to see if that will solve the over heat problem.
  7. Wow, I guess the next step is to remove the steering column and see if we can replace the bushings with roller bearings as you have done. Thank you for your import.
  8. Well , we went and the car over heated. Back to finding the problem. When I get it fixed, I will keep you all informed.
  9. Will do, when we go on our ride tomorrow.
  10. The real test for my 1929 Hupp is to go to see a fellow who restores Pierce Arrows to see if he can make some new bushings to replace the pot metal bushings in the steering column of the Pierce I could make the new bushings but I do not have a machine shop down here at my disposal as I do have in N.H. The trip will be 42 miles round trip..If the trip is successful, we will more than likely do the trade.
  11. Took the Hupp out for a ride in 80 deg weather. Did not steam but got too hot for me .Before we came down to FL, I took a radiator up to Auburn Me to L&A radiator shop and had them clean and flow check it.. I decided to swap them yesterday . Took it out for a test run at 80 deg. It buy the heat gage which is brand new got just under 160 deg. I have full confidence that the over heat problem is solved. Selling a car to anyone , I had to be sure it was OK.
  12. Thank you for the fine comet. I will be driving this fine auto after the Thanks giving holiday.I will need to check it out as it has been sitting all summer waiting for me to make sure it is ready for the road. I am thankful that the owner lets me take care of such a fine automobile. I am not rich as it comes to money, but how many people get to drive such a fine car. That;s worth a million to me.
  13. I have a 1936 Hupp Model N one of 21 producted. Its rare, but I would not trade it for any price. It is a fine road car with over drive and it will cruse all day long at 55 to 60. How many 1936 cars can do that?
  14. Well, I am back in the presence of the Pierce Arrow, can not wait to get back behind the wheel of such a great car. I have a good friend that has this great car & lets me take care of the cars needs. I am a very lucky man to be able to drive it to shows & just take it for a ride..
  15. Brought my 1929 Hupp Model A to Fl hoping to trade it for my friends 1932 Hupp Model S. IThe model S is pretty much original, I love original cars.I will post a pic of the Model S if I can strike a deal. Here is a pic of my 1929 Hup.
  16. lump, do you need Model R parts or do you just want a parts car?
  17. First of all , its a 1929 Hupp Model A.The dash is what tells that. Seconed, it started its life as a coupe. We know this because the two passenger Cabriolet does not have a folding top like a roadster. If you look at the 4th pic, you can see they added material to the top of the door. The good thing is it has non standard wood wheels on it. They had to be special ordered. The pic is a Hupp Mode S Cabriolet with the top down, this was the first year and model of that type. 1930-31
  18. The 32? 33 Hupp sold for $49, 500
  19. Well being a Hupp collector, not a lot of people know much about the great cars that Robert C Hupp started producing in 1909. The Model K was the 3rd model Hupp produced. There was a roadster and an open touring, a 3 passenger coupe and a panel delivery. Production in 1914 was 2,711. in 1915 production was 4,268. The 2015 Roster of the Hupp club lists 4 1915 Models, 3 touring's and 1 roadster Depending how complete this car is will make a big difference in what this cars value would be.I would say that mercer09 is about good with his estimate. Hupps do not command big money, I can tell you this from my own experience as i just finally finished a 1929 Model A Hupp 4-dr. sedan that I have listed for $13,000. If it was a Model A Ford it would be sold already.
