Sample McDougald House Antique Car Show
450 NE 10th St, Pompano Beach, FL 33060
Saturday, January 12 th
The Ft Lauderdale AACA continued its’ traditional annual gathering of only our older cars at one of only a few antique homes in the area that serves as a museum in the Ft Lauderdale vicinity. This 1916 home is now in found in Centennial Park, which is in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, and maintained by Pompano Beach. Many local residents act as volunteer guides on tours of the home during visiting and tour hours.
Our support event started with some slight drizzle but later turned into just a perfect South Florida day for car showing. Next to the Boca Concourse, this event draws many our clubs older and prestigious antiques.
The show consists of an east and a west show field. Generally the much “older” cars are poised in the east show field and the “newer” antiques are shown on the west field. Of course, we have a DJ, and usually at least one food truck to keep us going.
There’s always a good turnout of supporting local car enthusiasts and those local who share pride in their local museum.
AN ICE CREAM SOCIAL FOR THE MEMBERS ONLY OF THE FT LAUDERDALE AACA MAY HAVE BEEN A 1ST FOR THIS CLUB. I'M NOT TOO SURE CAUSE I'M THE CLUB NEWBEE, BUT NONE THE LESS ENTHUSIASTIC HOWEVER.
THE LADIES SEEMED TO ENJOY THE OUTING AS IT WAS NOT JUST A CAR-GUY THING BUT A CHANCE FOR THE LADIES OF THE CLUB TO GATHER UNDER THE SHADE ON THE OUTSIDE TABLES OR INSIDE ON THE MANY TABLES (WITH AC!!).
THANKS TO GORDON FOR THE PICS,
“FOUNDER’S DAY 2019”
COOPER CITY FL CAR SHOW
FT. LAUDERALE AACA
OUR FRIENDLY FLAACA REGION CONTINUED OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE COOPER CITY RECREATION GROUP BY ORGANIZING THE 2019 FOUNDER’S DAY CAR SHOW. THIS YEAR THE REGION SUPPLIED VEHICLES FOR THE FOUNDER’S DAY PARADE WHICH ALSO GAVE GOOD REGION EXPOSURE TO THE PUBLIC. THE CAR SHOW WAS ONE OF THE MOST ATTENDED SHOWS IN RECENT MEMORIES AT THE BRIAN PICCOLO FACILITY, PERHAPS DUE TO OUR SHOW BEING MOVED CLOSER TO THE OTHER EVENTS IN THE PARK. OR PERHAPS, THIS SHOW WAS AN OPEN CAR SHOW WITH NO AGE RESTRICTIONS ON THE VEHICLES SOAS TO INCLUDE AS MANY COOPER CITY LOCALS AS POSSIBLE.
A LOCAL MILITARY RESTORATION VEHICLE GROUP ALSO DISPLAYED THEIR VARIOUS LARGE, SMALL AND HISTORICALLY CORRECT VEHICLES WHICH MANY VETERANS COULD NOT HELP BUT REMINSENCE OVER.
BEST OF SHOW 1964 CHEVY IMPALA.
Our Ft Lauderdale Region was invited to display our members 25+ year old antiques in the heart of Ft Lauderdale. There were both wine and craft beer vendors dispensing products to the thousands of those who bought a plastic bracelet. Accordingly, their seemed to be some member reluctance to display vehicles in the center of the street, which was the idea of the promoter. Many of our region’s members preferred to display their cars in the more “controlled” and somewhat hidden parking lot behind the bandstand, which also afforded a more centralized social environment (which many of our older members look forward to.)
None the less, the event was a rousing success with the region getting widespread inner-city exposure. The voting for Best of Show was done by the visitors to the event. The vehicle taking the “Beer&Wine” d-i-y trophy, made by our dedicated Event Chairman, was the tiny front-door BMW Isetta.
Like every year the show includes an auto exposition sponsored by our regional AACA South Florida Chapter, Saturday is open to Sal vintages to include resto modes and hot rods. Sunday is reserved for originals and restoration to original condition
