Mark Gregory
I am rebuilding my 1931 Reo Royale Victoria door wood . Here is how I handled the door top rail . That Stanley Router is from 1958 . The top door rail on my Royale had a little wood rot on it . So I made up a set of rails the white strips in the pictures . I made an extension for my router to over hang on to the top door rail . I removed the poor wood down 3/8 of an inch to the lap joint on my hinge side of the door . I will install a new piece of wood glued over the existing lap joint to the latch side of the car . That anvil and tool box are weights to hold down my door level on the work bench . chistech
How to get creative Mark. Did the same sort of thing to put the drainage slot on the top of my golf bag door except used a newly made small base Rigid router. Clamped a piece of ash on the left side to set a matching height to the metal door edge on the right and the ash also gave a straight edge for the router fence to ride along. Drainage slot cut with a half round bit. I’m quite impressed with the power of the Rigid unit and it’s controllibility. I use this router to get into tight places where I have to remove rotted wood to replace.
