Converting back to manual steering

The power steering link uses a tighter spring on the pitman arm, so using the loose spring for power steering would give additional play. The loose spring for manual steering is there to give you the extra arm strength to pull the steering wheel (aka builds momentum).

The extra spring on the manual linkage is an anti-kickback and is eliminated on the power steering car in 56 for first time.

Looking at the pictures and description the 55 and 56 manual units are the same.

55 manual and power boxes are interchangeable. You can rebuild a 55 p/s box...details on my website.

A forum member has a 55 p/s box for sale.
