saftey Glass

Just purchased a 1932 Plymouth PB coupe that was restored in the 1990's. I'm trying to determine if all the glass is saftey glass. The glass is not laminated. Is it possible to have safety glass that is not laminated ? How can this be determined? Thank you for your help.

It could be tempered. Unlikely though since such glass has to be cut to size and sent out for tempering. Tempered glass can't be cut. Sounds like you have plain plate glass if you are sure it isn't laminated.

Generally speaking, all windshields are laminated safety glass. The rest of the glass in the vehicle would be tempered safety glass.

Tap on the glass with your knuckle.

If it's safety glass it will "thud"........if it's plate glass it will "clink".

Have you ever seen how plate glass breaks?....... :eek:

I think by 1932 they came from the factory with safety glass. Is it not marked in the lower corner or was that something they did not do in 1932?

Try the coin test. Hold a nickel with the edge on the surface at a 30-45 degree angle away from the surface. If its safety glass with two layers, you should see double reflections.
