Steve Moskowitz
OK, don't laugh but the 50's are not my era of expertise. I just got a race car yesterday that was advertised as a 394 but I think it is a 303 or a 324. Any quick way to tell. Yes, I know I can find the engine numbers but being a bit lazy here. rocketraider
394 has 5 bolts around the lips holding valve covers on. 303-324 have two on top. 394 also has thermostat crossover cast into the intake manifold where I think the others have a separate piece. Larry W
The '57-'58 371cid has two bolts through the center, holding the valve cover, with conical valve springs on the '58's. Subsequent 371's are bolted around the perimeter. Thermostat is mounted in the intake manifold on all 371's.
