Is my AMP gauge working correctly??

Hello All,

Having a little trouble with my electrical at least I think its trouble and would like confirmation. I have a 1951 Buick Special/Dynaflow 6 Volt and below is what I've done electrically.

- New Battery (6 volt)

- New cables, Large positive cable and braided ground

- New Lights

- New Generator brushes, bearing, bushing and confirmed working/charging by rebuild shop

- Regulator inspection (appears to be clean inside cover)

Here's what I need help with. At idle the amp gauge is close to "0" (Slightly on left side of O), when I turn on the lights I see a drop to discharge then back to 0 when turned off. When I increase RMP's the gauge creeps to "C" then back down to 0 at idle. Is this normal activity?

Is there a way to test if the system is charging at idle or increased RMP's?

Thanks

Think of it this way. The 0 represents 100%. When the battery is 100% the generator should not be charging and there should be no discharge. Any draw of amps will cause a discharge till the generator replaces it.

Put a voltage meter across the battery terminals at idle and then rev the engine.

If all is working the voltage at the battery should increase when you rev the engine

From your post it seems as if everything is working properly
