Flathead twin plug straight eight from 1927?

Greetings AACAers,

I got a brief look at an unknown-to-me flathead straight eight engine with twin spark plugs and three speed transmission. It had a large tappet cover on the side with approx 32 bolts holding it on. Also a duplex 2-bbl carburetor. Water pump driven off the back of the generator. No identifying script, but the date of 1927 on several parts. Sound familiar to anyone?

Further research shows Auburn did use a Lycoming straight eight beginning in 1925.

Am beginning to wonder if the one I saw might be a truck engine. Searches in that direction have found one reference for a twin plug Seagrave and a twin plug Lycoming engine in fire trucks, but I can't find any photos which show either of these twin spark plug engines.

Jack, the fire truck with the dual ignition Lycoming engine exists, and is located about 50 miles south of me. I don't get down there often, but will keep you in mind if and when I go there. Also, I may be able to get the owner's phone number. I've seen the truck and have discussed the redundant ignition systems with its owner, but don't know the engine's minute details. Dave
