Jay Wolf
What is it?
Dave@Moon
Jay,How big is it? It looks like a battery terminal puller, but size will tell more.
1937hd45
Most likely its a 5Z-323 starter Bendix head puller for a Model T Ford.
Jay Wolf
It has numbers on the other side I'll look tonight.Too small for terminal puller.
Shop Rat
I sent a copy of the photo to our friend Doy Maston who learned to drive on Model Ts and has had and still has several of them. Here is what he said." Hard to guess the exact dimensions of the tool--most Model T tools had a 5Z----- number somewhere on the tool. My best guess --- that it's a puller used to pull off the the gear on a Model T generator."
Jay Wolf
The number on the took is 5Z322 and something that looks like a horizontal diamond. Overall width is 2 /14 inches, max gear widths is 1 1/2 inch gap on the puller is 3/4 inch. So I think you guy's are on the right track.I figured it was a puller part of a flaring tool. 1937hd45
Part # 5Z 322 does not exist in a Model T Ford parts book.
Jay Wolf
I'll have to look at it again maybe i misread or forgot it before I posed.
Jay Wolf
My mind isn't what it used to be I guess I couldn't remember the number.the correct number is 5z323
Shop Rat
Jay,I sent the correct number to Doy and here is the information he sent back. "I posted on Model T Int. Forum asking for identiy of 5Z323 tool. Got answer on Forum in three minutes from Jack Daron of Indiana, the tool is to remove the head on a Bendix starter drive. I could only guess---since picture has no other object to determine size of jaw on the puller. But if you have a 5Z323 puller, you can overhaul a Bendix starter drive!"Looks like 1937hd45 nailed it. TheMoneyPit
Is this something you are interested in selling? It is a T Ford bendix puller and while I dont ever recall needing one, it would be nice to have just in case you did...
