If you were to replace those goodyear GT plus 4 tires? What would you get? Thanks alot for your help.

When I replaced the factory originals, I bought Michelin MMX's. I was amazed how the noise level was reduced. I didn't realize how much noise the OEM tires created. Of course the handling and feel were much improved also.

I just replaced my original GT+4 tires with another set just like the original. Not all Goodyear dealers have them but you can order online for $87 each plus shipping. When I left southern California for the southeast exploration trip, I purchase Pirelli P4000 as it was rated (at the time)<BR>the best raintire. Excellent wet weather tire,a good ride,mostly quiet and at 45000<BR>miles, the treads are hardly worn. Still driving in the wet weather....

Ok, so the previous owner of my 89 had Aquatreds put on the car and frankly I think they are god-awful; it feels like the sidewalls are rolling laterally when cornering. For originality's sake, I'm tempted to put GT+4s on, but a number of people on this board have commented on them being too noisy and contributing to poor ride quality.<BR>I want high quality in handling and comfort with low noise. Snow ability, tread life and cost are not major issues. Any input based on your experiences would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks-

Well, I have to say that I prefer the Dunlop series, myself. Though, for noise reduction, I don't think they are the best tires available, especially before you but about 1K miles or so on them, but I don't think a tire's made that can beat their wet, dry, and (get this) snow AND ICE traction. They grip wonderfully in the wet sloppy stuff as well as in the hard pack. I live in Baltimore, Md, and though this year we've only had one real snow day (no fooling), we usually get some of the nastiest mixture of gunk you can imagine; light pack, hard pack, mixed hard and soft, frozen slush, and of course, ice, especially over hard pack covered in slush. A driver's nightmare. Those Dunlops not only pulled my girl out of some pretty nasty spots last year, but I dared take a buddy of mine into the Pennsylvania Mountains while that mess was still soft, and she climbed the mountains in spots 4x4's were getting stuck in. Mind you, I'm not an average driver, but honestly, I was really impressed. Also, I never lost adequate traction, even when those tires were in serious need of replacement (I was short on cash, what can I say). Anyway, I think it's the best bang for the buck. <BR>Also go to this site and check the prices before you buy, whatever you decide to get. You'll be amazed at the savings, and they delivered mine via UPS in only 3 days. Like I said, noise is minimal, but it's there and you feel it's gripping (literally) so if you don't care for that "sports car" type ride, you might want to check another series, like the "SP Sport 5000", which are comparable, but supposedly quieter (the trade off is supposed to be a little less traction in snow), or another.
