imported_Phil Knapp
Hi Mike,The correct spare hubcap and gravel sield can be seen at:http://community.webshots.com/photo/355325423/369208728dldMLzI believe that the gravel shield was optional. It was an option in 1939, perhaps standard by 1941?The correct hubcap and beauty ring can be seen at:http://community.webshots.com/photo/69421051/69731718YNcygOYour car looks terrific, by the way! Rolf
Hi Mike, beautiful car!! Is that Darian Blue? I had one Dar Blu, but as I think back it wasn't as bright as yours, looks like a '42-'48 spare tire cap, the '41 connie has the same shape as the road wheels, with a gold Lincoln Continental script across the top, the wheel rings look right from what I can see in the pic, the ribbed design is correct I think, and there was a shield between the rear bumper and the body, at the risk of offense, that is the ultimate of the H model Lincolns to my mind, even as much as I love Zephyrs, enjoy it!! imported_Phil Knapp
1942 Continental Spare Tire hubcaps are unique, slightly different from the 1946-48 Continental Spare Tire hubcaps. See:http://community.webshots.com/photo/355325423/369187889PmakyRfor a photo of a 1942 spare tire hubcap and:http://community.webshots.com/photo/355325423/369188523noSQnEfor a photo of a 1946-48 spare tire hubcap. 1941
Thanks, Rolf. The color is Capri Blue Iridescent , first offered in 1940 and carriedover to 1941 - LOTS of metallic in this color. Although not very visible, the trim rings are NOT ribbed - should thry be? Mike
1941
Thanks, Phil! Now I know what spare cap to look for; and I guess the trimrings are correct. The build sheet shows that the car came with a columbia axle. All of the controls were taken off when it was restored and Ido have EVERYTHING but an axle housing, which is LINCOLN - ONLY!I have all of the "guts" for one, but no housing.Mike
imported_Phil Knapp
Mike,Give Dan Krehbiel a call at: (909)302-5922. Dan is the Columbia advisor for the Early Ford V-8 Club and is also a member of LZOC. Dan helped me convert my 1939 Ford Columbia to a 1939 Zephyr unit. Dan has all the parts you need and is THE Columbia Guru. Dan and I go back to 1962 when we were both restoring 1939 Ford Convertibles. JWalker
I agree with Rolf that the ribbed design on the trim rings is correct, not the smooth design. I know this is mentioned in the LZOC magazine within the last couple of years but I haven't researched it to tell what issue. Phil, if you have a photo of Jake's car it will have the ribbed design. Bob Drake sells them in 15 0r 16 inch sizes as part number 01A 18303. Or on ebay, look here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=418&item=6539353734&rd=1. I believe those are originals.
