Modified Vehicles

Recommended Posts

[color:\\"blue\\"]I have a heavily customized 69 Pontiac Firebird. Are there any classes in AACA for vehicles that are not stock? There is a national meet occurring in my town, and I would like to know if I can participate. I am not an AACA member, nor do I know one I can ask. Thank you for your help.

Hi. Welcome to the forum.

The answer to your question is no. Our organization is for cars that are original or restored to original-from-the-factory condition. There are a couple divisions for unrestored cars, but none for cars, trucks or cycles that have been modified.

You might want to look into the street rod clubs such as "Good Guys". They put on shows all over the country.

To show at an AACA National Event you must be a member of the AACA with a vehicle, that qualifies under our rules and standards.

But if you ever decide to get a vehicle to show/restore with AACA you will be more than welcome to join our hobby.

Good luck with your car.

Let me echo Bob's comments. Our meets are free to the public. I hope you will come to the show as a spectator and see just a little about what we do. No, your car does not fit our system but someday you may wish to own an antique or if you love cars, our membership includes an incredible magazine as well. $30.00 is all it takes. Enjoy your custom car but think about adding an antique to your stable someday.

I hope you can get that screaming chicken fixed! PETA will be all over you. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Thanks to you all for your explanations. It appears we will be going to this show as a spectator (which is also nice). We have an all original 31 Model A (never painted or restored) that we putter around in on occasion that we plan to work on. Hopefully we can get it ready for the next time a national meet comes our way. See you then!

There is a DPC (Driver Participation Class) that you could put the 31 Model A in. You would need to join the AACA National to do that, but it is for cars like yours. You can check out the requirements on the AACA main page look to the left and click on judging and then I think you can click on a web copy of the 2005 Judges Manual. Scan down through and it will explain the DPC class and what the rules are for it. The cars are certified rather than judged for that class.

Check it out. You might like to try that until you decided if you want to retore it as a "show car".
