Bill Boudway
Hi Joe T.Thanks for your suggestion on the tap. The threads are 2 5/16 X 18. I checked with my tool lending friends and they couldn't come up with a tap for that size.Regards,Bill Boudway
DizzyDale
Dear Bill,I don't get it....How does this thing work? You gotta squeeze the handles together and spin it at the same time? Did Harry Houdini invent this THING?diz
Guest stude8
2-5/16-18?? You must be working on a Houdaille shock body. In the summer here in Northern Illinois there is a steam thresher show that hosts a flea market with a number of shop tool vendors (No Taiwan stuff here). It always surprises me how many unusual tools you can see on the tables, a 2-5/16-18 tap might even be among the stuff. Stude8
The Old Guy
I should have realized on looking at the tool that you needed a BIG thread. A tap that size would be very expensive anyway! Good Luck in your quest
carbking
Don't know how often you will need the tap, but virtually any size tap may be special-ordered through J & L Industrial:www.jlindustrial.comWe have had them custom-make dozens of taps and dies for us. Many threads on the older vehicles were unusual, to say the least.Jon.

Terry29-26
You can make your own tool. Take the cutters out of a Die ( any 18 pitch die will work) and make your own handles. A good sorce for cutters is a plumbing shop that has pipe threading machines. These tools are hard to use in soft metal because they tend to dig in.Send me a P/M and I can send you some photos.Terry29-
