Ed,

Wow! Lucky you finding such a low milage car. I presume the rubber on the running boards is cracking or something because they should not be worn out yet at only 16k miles. The 'mat' is vulcanized onto the metal board and not a replacable mat. There is a fellow in Ga. with the dies to revulcanize same. His name is Hunley Acuff. I had a set done for my '34 KC pickup and look excellent.

Not cheap but well worth the effort. I believe only certain models had the stainless trim? Perhaps our DBC '33 specialist can lend more info. Good Luck.

Rodger "Dodger" Hartley

I have a set of "repro" running board mouldings listed for sale on the AACA Buy/Sell Forum. Go there and search on "1933 Dodge". They are for a short wheel base model DP. - John

Ed; As with many things at Chrysler in the 30's all is not as clear as it should be. Most '33 Dodges had the chrome strip on the running board, but not all. Some had the '33 Plymouth treatment of wrapping the rubber over the bottom edge as the finished product. Mr. Acuff had the market on this for years. His work was the best, historically correct and expensive. I believe he is no longer doing this work but you should check it out to be certain. I have an additional name but no address, Antique Rubber Parts Overhaul, to add to the list. As you search through all of this you would do all '33 Dodge folks a favor if you presented your info. Currently I have had one running board request in the last few years and am waiting to hear back on the name I posted in this note re: quality of work. The person in need said he had a quote for $1500. US to do the job an a long wheel base set. As Rodger Dodger stated vulcanizing is necessary to do the job which includes cleaning the steel backing. This eliminates those that have a flat product to glue on top and drastically increases the price. My '33 has the wrap around done by Mr. Acuff in the early 80's. I consider it to be the most difficult of all parts and pieces to replace on any '33 Dodge. I do not know a supplier that sells repros of the chrome strip and have seen very few of them on e bay. There were 104,455 long wheel base Dodges made in '33 and 15,420 short wheel base cars not counting pick ups which were all short base. Your frustration for long wheel base running board parts is shared by many of us.

Please post so we can follow your progress;

Try Buckeye Rubber (Robin or Paul) in Ohio. Their number is 937-833-2885.

They vulcanized the running boards for my 1934 Dodge for about $350.00 and really look great. The boards were sandblasted before being sent to them, otherwise an additional fee would have been added. Someone told me to look for a house being sandblasted and ask them to blast my running boards.

Hi Jim, I am trying to navigate this forum and since I found your reply i will tell you (and every one) about my 33Brougham short wheel base. (You may remember that I rang you from Australia for any info you may have on it prior to me purchasing it)

I have since obtained the build card from daimler chrysler, which states that it was a special order Built on dec 29th 1932 and shipped to Sydney Australia Jan 3rd 33.

It also came with dual sidemounts, a transitone radio, cigar lighter, special paint (almond green)and bedford cord trim.

It is a beautiful car that gets a lot of favourable commentsand is great to drive. It is probably the only brougham to come to this country but who knows (or cares for that matter)

My car has 44000 miles on the clock Was painted in ,78,when most chrome was redone and 4 new tires that still have over 50% tread left!

The auto clutch is not working which may be a good thing from what I,ve heard.

I would like to know what the original exterior mirrors looked like if any one can help please, and if any are available I would be interested in buying them for both sides. I have a 35 kc ute with one which looks like it may be a factory item but I,m not sure.

I am also missing the right side metal wheel cover. I traded for a pair of 33 plym ones but they are different.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers Beetles

a pair of 33 plym. ones but they are slightly different.
