DizzyDale
Just got home from the garage and have to vent a little.Am in the process of painting my 39 Zephyr coupe and is is amazing how you start with a nice car,strip the paint off,[not as nice as i thought],do the metal work,attempt to bolt those same fenders back on and SURPRISE.You would have thought the fenders came off another car.Gotta elongate bolt holes and tweak the fender some,sure the gaps will be great and the fit will be perfect but it sure is some dickin around.7 hours later i got one fender in pretty good shape.Well i feel better now,thanks for listening.diz <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
Peter J.Heizmann
Hi, Diz...was going to ask how you are doing, but, you already told me.Just a note that we're with you. (That and a nickel won't buy anything, however...)I still suspect sheet metal springs once taken off, especially after so many years bolted in place. Another suspicion is how the folks on the assembly line would do little tweaking here-and-there so as not to hold up the line. I know for a fact, that, in the Triumph manufacturing, they would actually call maintenance, or, whomever, to the line to run a bead to make a door fit correctly, grind it, paint it. If I ever have to take my doors off, for example, it scares the daylights out of me.Do you feel better now that you vented?Regards, Peter J. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

ex98thdrill
Diz, we've done the same thing. Been there done that. It almost seems as though as you sand away for hours and hours on those fenders, the combination of heat and friction that the metal will stretch. It is almost become a given that the only way you'll prevent it is to work on the fenders while they're bolted on the car.
Guest Curt Fouse
I done about the same thing with my 48 (Zephyr type) Cv. I put it back together this spring. The thing that surprized me was that so many of the bolts for the Lincoln were fine thread. Luckly a surplus vender at a local flea market stocks a a good supply of bolts, fender washers and some fine thread bolts. My fenders went on ok. The 'experts' told me the welt should be painted body color, so did that! The lincoln is the only Ford product in the garage and I had a lot of head scratching to do. Good luck. Nice to know there are still a few who will still get dirt under the finger nails.Curt
Guest Skyking
I haven't had that problem with my Metropolitan. They are welded on. Yes, little spot welds all along the fenders where they butt to the door jams. Years ago when we did my son's Met, we had to replace the two rear fenders. What a chore!
