Anyone going to the Charlotte AutoFair Sept 11-14th?

Hey Gang. First off, is the Charlotte AutoFair occuring this year? Their website lists the date, but ALL of the information on the AutoFair is 2002, including the registration forms. We are hoping to head up for it, likely won't be there until Saturday morning though, and no cars this year, maybe next year for them! I've been told the flea market is excellent, had hoped to be a vendor but the schedule did not permit it for this year.

Will it be worth the 10 hour drive straight through Friday evening/night to get there?

Who's going to be attending?

How good is the flea market?

I doubt I will make it this time. I have been several times before, always on Saturday. My understanding is you should go on Thursday or Friday. By Saturday, some of the "good stuff" is gone. By Sunday, I've heard that the vendors are already clearing out. It is a pretty big place. The entire infield of the race track is covered with vendors and there are more outside the track. There are a lot more street rod vendors than actual antique vendors though.

10 hours? I would do it once and decide whether it was worth it the next time. It's 4 hours for me. Like I said, I've done it several times, but not the past couple of years.

At least half of the reason for the trip would be the hopes of meeting a few folks. Odds of finding Mk IX Jaguar parts are slim, odds of finding 1930 Chrysler 77 Parts are slimmer. We do enjoy the shows, but usually stick to the 3 hour drive rule. With that said, several folks mentioned earlier this year they would be there, but haven't heard from anyone since then. Unfortunately we can't leave until Friday mid-day due to a significant family obligation who's schedule we can't control, and is important enough to warrant our delayed departure. I had originally hoped to make it up and have a vendor space, I have a ton of parts (well more likely a couple of tons <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> mostly 1939/1940 Cadillac) that I would like to find new homes.

I've not been to the September event but I can tell you the spring show is fantastic. I understand the fall version is smaller, and the observations about what kind of material is in the majority is probably correct. Plenty of street rod, muscle car and truck stuff there, but I always find a few early items. Last event I found some brass age Model T stuff. In spring, the whole inside of the race track is filled with vendors, and there are twice that many again in the fields outside. It takes two days minimum to see it all. Even though fall is smaller, it would still take you a day to cover it adequately I'm certain. If you make it please share your observations. I've been looking for a good excuse to go in Sept also.

I'll be there with an Oldsmobile of some description. The Olds Club is in the pit area near the big pavilion tent near turn 1. I have the showfield map if anyone wants to know where specific marque clubs will be located.

Agreed the flea market is mainly musclecar/streetrod/tri-5 Chevy stuff, but there are vendors with prewar sheetmetal and parts. Some interesting cars for sale usually turn up in the swap meet area, off the car corral beaten path.

As far as it being worth the drive, I say try it once and hope for dry sunny weather!

The fall show is quite a bit smaller than the spring show. Most of the vendors have been there setting up since Wednesday so by Noon on Saturday it seems like most of them are tired or sold out and start to pack up. In recent years the pre 1960's stuff has been very thin, the hotrod parts seem to dominate. Friday is always the biggest day.
