Station Wagon vs. Woody

Recommended Posts

While initially the station wagon bodies were mounted on low-priced or commercial chassis, yet when they began to appear on upscale makes such as these Franklins, their image became more of one associated with that market.  Buick began cataloging their Super Estate Wagon as a regular offering for 1940, promoting it as a 'smart, luxury choice'.  Chrysler countered with their 1941 Royal Town & Country wagons.  Both makes station wagons were priced in the upper-medium/entry-luxury segment.  The association with the upscale estate, resort, 'smart set' took hold.
