Car body illustrations in a 1925 dictionary

Recommended Posts

That is fantastic to say the least!

However, it is in fact one group's opinion at one point in time. Marketing twisted and altered nomenclature routinely and constantly. What certain terms meant in one year might well be quite different only a year or two later.

Is a "two-door sedan" only that? Or is it a coach (what Studebaker advertised and called my 1925)? Or is it merely a "coupe" like a dozen other companies called the same exact body style/layout a couple years later? Or maybe the same thing as an "opera coupe", or "Victoria", as some people mistakenly call them?

Complicated subject. But a great piece of original literature!

Is the book American or British?

There may be differences between terms.

It’s American, here are some pictures of the book itself

Also an archaic spelling of carburetor
